In this sixth and final episode, I'll talk about some of the side effects I experienced in going keto and discuss some of the lessons I learned along the way -- including things I might have done differently and advice I would give to people starting off on a ketogenic lifestyle.

Also, I purchased the Withings scale and blood pressure cuff that Penn Jillete talks about in "Presto". Neither is cheap, but I don't regret purchasing either (despite the mixed reviews on Amazon).

This is a really serious video that echo’s my experiences, keto was just the beginning, losing weight by changing the ingredient meant no real hardship, as the weight fell off , the fun began, I took up exercise, e biking, supplanting weight loss with muscle, so I’ve moved to one keto meal a day and the weight loss continues, never felt healthier and I’m 81 years old.

@@MeMe-dw1sm December 1939, Thanks for your video, I feel I’m getting smarter as I learn more and the OMAD is so manageable, and effective. I sleep at midnight and eat again about 5pm and lightly , then later have a normal evening meal ( keto rules). Incidentally your own before and now photos are so convincing I know this is really working. Thanks again.

My family doesn’t have a clue about keto. They just don’t get it. I have lost 40# so far and off bp meds completely [took many different prescriptions for 30+ years] now none. 67 years old, on keto for 8 months. Still have 90# to lose. It’s hard to believe my blood pressure this morning was 115/60, pulse 52. KZfaq is my support group, my teachers, and my friends. Thank you everyone. Last New Years I was in very bad shape. Uncontrolled weight, blood pressure, and hospitalized 3 times for a-fib. All that changed with keto. I’m in it for the long haul.

I am a 65 year old women . In 2017 I was diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol. I went on a low carb high GOOD fat diet and in 4 months I had lowered my cholesterol back to normal. My blood sugar problem took 7 months so i could get off the meds and not have to prick my finger. I was also doing alot of intermittent fasting. About 1/2 the way through this I realized I was basically doing Keto so I started taking cues from the Keto community. I realized I could eat my ribeye steaks, and other things my doctor said i couldn’t. Cheese was a thing i did not have to cut that I love. I use lots of good fats and fresh herbs in my cooking. I had to keep my diet flavorful.! I have lost 60 lbs and went down 4 clothes sizes. I am enjoying life so much, I literally feel like I am 30 again. It is fabulous. I would say i am not strick Keto as I don’t force fat. I just cook with liberal amounts of healthy oil and butter. I love your channel for great recipes. Thanks and God bless.

Your testimony is very encouraging. I am a 72+ year old US military service connected wheelchair bound incomplete quadriplegic living in the Philippines. Losing excess pounds has been a real challenge for me, but I recently learned about ketosis and have lost 12 lbs since beginning keto 2 months ago. I am type 2 diabetic and have drastically cut my insulin use by 3/4 and looking forward to ditching the needles and finger sticks. I’m currently 258 pounds. Down from 270 lbs at start of this lifestyle. It’s a bit of a challenge being the only one doing keto, but my wife isn’t fat hahahaha! Thanks for sharing and giving me hope.

My best advice for beginning Keto... 1) Never trust a Keto fart in the first three weeks. 2) Commit to giving it a 30 day chance, weigh yourself on the 1st day and the 30th day only. 3) Buy a 64oz water jug and get married to it. It’s easier to get the right amount, when you can see it all at once. 3). Dont fall into the “stuff” trap (all the special ingredients, sweeteners and “keto” labeled products). Keep keto simple and cheap until you decide its time to progress and clean it up. 4) Never stop researching. You’re not as brilliant as you think you are.

Hey, thank you. My advice? Now I'm a great grandma and back on it. 30 years ago, I went on Atkins and benefited so much. I read the WHOLE book and used it to manage constant ovarian cysts. In 10 years I completed my education, founded and built a great career. I got talked out of Atkins. Believed it was harmful. Quit and took up the SAD. 17 surgeries over 20 years for cysts and surgical errors and consequences. It cost me so so much. Threw me into major depression. Lost my career. So being back on it these last two years? Restoration of mind and soul. Energy level again good and solid. Depression at bay and now feels like just a minor mood issue. Weight coming off steady. Getting compliments on my skin and hair. Off meds I took for 25years. That "withdrawal syndrome" is another nightmare BTW. To sum it up? my advice is "Don't get barked out of your tree". If you're finding healing, stay with it.

I started out low carb and moved to keto. I went through all the versions of keto. I'm more ketovore currently. I have also cut way back on alcohol. The first time I told someone I was only eating 20 carbs a day. They flipped out and said that's like the Atkins diet and I'm going to die. So now I usually say I cut my carbs back and removed processed foods and sugar. Then they tell me they could never remove sugar. And the conversation moves on. Thanks for sharing.

Great job!! I really like your presentations! I'm 73, been too heavy (not obese) for many years. You know, 20-30 lbs. over ideal with typical beer (belly fat!) gut. I have several health issues, on prescription meds. About 2 months ago I started watching You Tube videos on Keto as well as Carnivore. I did a lot of note taking and research. I was a pizza, pasta, beer, soda, ice cream, candy, fast food guy. Addicted to a lot of it! Single, and really not into cooking for myself. So December 12th I made the jump to attempt a better, healthier way of eating, and hopefully drop some weight, and I came up with a game plan that I call Ketovore. A combo idea. I cut out ALL sugar, all carbs other than broccoli and cauliflower for their nutrient factor, and looked for organic, clean foods that fit the requirements of these diets. I started simply eating prime grass fed/finished fatty meats like rib eye steak, quality uncured bacon, lots of pasture raised omega 3 eggs, canned wild Alaskan sockeye salmon, avocado oil, virgin organic cold pressed olive oil, organic ghee etc. I'm getting pretty good at putting together quick, wholesome meals using these ingredients along with high quality Redmond sea salt, fresh ground pepper, organic garlic powder etc. And their always delicious! Oh yeah, I drink only filtered water, nothing else! I had one setback about a week in where I just had to have some ice cream. But from then on, no more problems with cravings. I'm amazed I'm not craving sugar/sweets/candy as I was always eating these things. I couldn't go to the market w/out grabbing a big bag of M&M's or caramel's, ice cream, soda, chips etc. Now I go to the grocery store, and I get everything I need for my new life, and never even think about the nasty things that I always had to have. I've found my appetite quickly changed, and now I eat only when I'm hungry- sometimes twice daily, sometimes once (one big meal), sometimes nothing till the next day. This allows anywhere from 16 to 24 hour fasts pretty regularly with no problem. I've now been on my 'new food plan' for 3 weeks, and to date I've dropped a total of 10 lbs.! Incredible improvements I've experienced in less than 3 weeks! 1) I've had back misery all of my adult life with physical spinal damage and severe canal stenosis, etc. Arthritis in ALL of my joints and inflammation to the point I was taking a daily prescription anti-inflammatory for years- this stuff is not good for you, but it was either that or misery! I'm now completely off this med, and feel better than I did even while taking it! My inflammation has decreased dramatically! 2) Grinding neck: For years when I would rotate my head, it sounded like I was grinding gravel with my skull! That is now GONE! 3) Acid reflux: Suffered for years, especially at night. I kept a bowl of Tums on the bedpost! It's now GONE!! No more Tums required! 4) Skin tags: I had these damn things under my arms, around my neck etc. for years. Every year the dermo would remove about 12 of the biggest offenders. These are now pretty much GONE! Still a few little ones that are shrinking away. 5) Night time dry mouth: GONE! 6) Dry eyes: Still have this, but it has definitely decreased in severity! 7) Falling asleep after meals: GONE! 8) Sweating: I used to sweat as well, especially under minimal exertion. My underarm odor was always pretty bad and required constant washing and deodorant. I was even wiping myself with rubbing alcohol as well to kill the bacteria. Now I am no longer sweating during average exertion, and my underarm odor is GONE! I've stopped using deodorant for the most part, and simply wash during normal bathing. Absolutely amazing! 9) Increased energy and stamina: I used to get very out of breath under light exertion like putting on my shoes, climbing stairs, anything that required minimal physical effort. I suffered a bad case of interstitial pneumonia several years ago that almost killed me. Hospitalized for a month (longest month of my life!!), lots of x-rays and steroids. It damaged my lungs, not to mention my right diaphragm is paralyzed so that lung no longer functions! I thought I'd suffer with being out of breath like this for the rest of my days! Now that's GONE! I can do all of these things now, and much more, and not even notice- no more sitting down to catch my breath! I don't have to! 11) Depression: I've been on Lexapro anti-depressant med for about 10 years. I'm presently weaning myself off of it, and I'm almost done. I feel fine so far, no side effects that I can see/feel. This would free me from all prescription meds! 12) Blood pressure: My resting blood pressure has averaged around 140 over 70 for years. Last night it was 114 over 58! I've NEVER seen it that good! It's astounding! Hey, at this rate I may just live for another 20 years! And the best part is I'm feeling great! It's a Christmas miracle! All of the above is absolutely true! I'm not one to tell tales, or b/s people. It really does appear that the medical industry in this country hasn't a clue about nutrition, or proper diet, and never has! As my hero George Carlin once stated, "It's all bullshit folks, and it's bad for ya!" All of these changes in less than 3 weeks! It really is a complete and total miracle, for sure! Yes, I'm definitely becoming a different person, and all for the good! I cannot recommend getting on this type of diet more, the sooner the better!! I know I'm on this now for good! You couldn't PAY me enough to go ever go back to my previous ways! If you've been procrastinating about trying this change of life style, stop putting it off and JUST DO IT! You'll not be sorry!

I just finished watching this mini series of your transformation and it’s inspired me.! Turns out we are a lot alike, bad food and alcohol. I did Keto almost 2 years ago until I was in a horrific car accident that’s taken me over a year to recover from. While I was laying around with casts on all 4 limbs my eating went south and working out was not an option at all. Lately I’ve had a burning inside me to get back on track, that’s when I found your channel. You have truly inspired me to pick myself up and brush off the dust. I’m thinking about documenting my journey and posting on my KZfaq channel as well. Thanks for all you do, you are making a difference out there.! Curt

Thank you Steve for this and all of your videos. My story... My son went keto in 2019 and lost something like 50#. He would preach to me and I was curious, but never made the move. In 2020, I lost my job and was home a lot. I'm a type 1 diabetic and saw a video that basically told me I could expect to live 10 less years as a result. Being 59, that was an eye opener. Plus, I've scared to death of Alzheimers--which got my mom and grandmother--and I saw some vids talking about how keto/IF can prevent that. So I started with IF--skipping breakfast--and not really going keto at first, but skipping some carbs. I dropped from about 185 to 165 and stalled before my goal weights of 152 and 144. So I started skipping lunch as well which was surprisingly easy for me and got down to the upper 150s. Then I decided to go full on keto, which was a bit tough, since my family isn't. After a 4-5 month journey, I got down around 142 +/- 2 and my wife started complaining that I'm too thin. lol. I've been doing this for 9 months now and my weight is the same. One thing that's challenging for me is that there's not a lot of information out there for type 1's and keto/IF. So I had to learn on my own for the most part. But I can tell you, when you've been fasting for 8+ hours, if you have your long acting insulin (or pump basal dosage) set right, your bg doesn't move, which NEVER happens otherwise. The BEST part about keto/IF as a type 1 is that once you get ketone adapted, when you go low--and I've had that happen too much frankly (read on to see why)--you don't get the bad, potentially life threatening symptoms. No confusion, no sweating, no passing out, no convulsions--all of which have happened to me. GONE. It's the game changer of all game changers. I'll never go back for that reason alone. Why do I go low a lot? My insulin regimen is fast acting Humalog at meals and Lantus at night. However, Humalog is designed to hit you quickly--it peaks in like 2 hours--which is consistent with the rate at which carbs affect your bg. However, carbs are so limited in my diet, what happens is that I tend to go low right away and then bounce up later when the proteins metabolize. I've seen a youtube or two talk about this and suggest to change the insulin to slower acting R or another similar one. I'll be discussing this with my Endo at my next visit. Speaking of doctors, don't expect them to be on board with keto. Mine wasn't. Just keep in mind that YOU know your body and YOU have to live with the results, not your doctor. They are advisors, not bosses. But when my A1C dropped from 6.9 to 6.3 and my labs came back great, he started listening. He's also about my age and probably about 280#. I gave him a pep talk and asked him... "who in our area is CURING type 2s or has their type 1's be non-problematic when going low? Don't you want to be THAT guy who doesn't just dispense drugs, but actually makes your patients much better? If I'm your first keto/IF patient, your second should be YOU." Steve's advice is generally very good about what to expect. I didn't have less farting. It's just not as smelly. I dropped from a 36 waist to a 32. And since I was without work for a while, Goodwill is my friend. Especially on half off senior day! On the no sweating thing, I've stopped using anti-perspirant as an experiment. 8 weeks and counting so far and no complaints from my wife. On the cramping, lack of electrolyte issue, something that Dr. Stephen Phinney (youtube him) suggested worked great for me... Dissolve a bullion cube in water and drink it once or twice a day. Cheap and effective. Thanks again Steve!

Great story from an excellent communicator. I'm now age 82 and only since keto have I been able to control my weight. I lost 60+ lbs probably 5 or 6 times but always yoyo'ed back up. I'm down 110lbs from my peak about 40 yr ago and lost about 45 in the past year. I used fasting for weight loss and keto to keep it off. For longevity purposes I intend to do a 7 day fast every 3 months (regardless of need to lose). My last visit to my primary doc I was his last patient and he told me that I was his only patient that day with normal vital numbers. I now weigh 145, the weight I had in about the 8th or 9th grade. So far I've not inspired anyone else to go keto.

WOW, I just sat through all six of your transformation videos. I couldn't stop watching. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORDS AND LESSONS. It is always rewarding to find someone who has gone through lifestyle changes, you yourself have struggled through. I've been obese my entire adult life, which is a lot of years, I will be 73 years young this year. It reinforced that I was not the only one struggling. I'm sorry you hand go through so many painful trials through your younger years. I can't understand the negative words of some people, I can't understand why they listen, but I guess they have to gripe about something. I have no idea they pain you have and do go through, I will never say to you or anyone else, "I know how you feel", I hate when someone says that to me, because they have no idea. What I will say is, I have gone through my own pain and I know how I felt, when I was going through trying times. I started Keto May 2017, I owe my success to my son-in-law. He lost a lot of weight, I asked how he did it, he told me Keto. Then and there I decided if he could do this, so could I. In all of this time I have never cheated once, I've thought about it may times, but I literally tell myself, JUST SAY NO, and that's what I have done. I'm very strict with myself, I have to be, I have no will power, I know my weaknesses. During this time I have traveled, several times, I go out to dinner several times a months, I just stay on Keto, I JUST TELL MYSELF NO. I have lost a total 140 pounds, I have 10 pounds to go to reach my personal goal. Once again thank you for share your life with us. I do believe we go through the trials of our lives for a reason, I do believe It's part of God's plan. Without those trials I would not be the person I am today, and I like me now.

@@MostViralVideos007 i make keto recipe mini waffles (dairy-free) for bread when needed. I just make a big batch, use round parchment slips from amazon between each one, and store in round container, also from amazon. Search thomas delauer's video on keto bread to learn what to look for on the labels. Most of them are crap! So be careful! I also want to try Serious Keto's carnivore tortilla! For that, buy big bin of pork rinds (no msg) from costco. And since you have the bin, check out Keto Twins video on "snack wrap" to use crushed pork rinds as fried chicken batter! I don't make the wrap... but that chicken recipe is a big winner with my whole family! Have fun!

Oh my...I can relate to everything you've said! My Husband is slim and has no health issues and eats anything he wants. I literally had to divide the cupboards and fridge in half, 'his things, and my things.' Also, grocery shopping is a nightmare, not to mention the added expense. Having to cook 2 meals every night is wearing me out! It would be so much easier if he were Keto as well. And as for telling people I'm on a Ketogenic Diet...well, let's just say I've learned to keep my big mouth shut!. If anyone asked me about my weight loss, I just say, "I'm a Low-Carber" and I DON'T say another word. If someone persists with questioning, I tell them to do their own research. I've actually had a co-worker pick a fight with me over her belief that our bodies need Carbs to survive. Can you believe that? Geeeez!

Debbie L Would you be able to make some dishes that are Keto, but then add in whatever carbs your husband enjoys as a side or addition to your keto recipe? I know your situation might not allow for this, but I have tried that with my husband and two teen boys and it’s mostly worked. For example if you grill burgers, you can have yours without bread and add a salad. Or fix keto chili and make his with beans and cornbread. Yours with sour cream cheese, avocado. It’s not easy being the only one in your family on keto, but as the chef we have a lot of control over what everyone eats in our homes. Good luck!

Thank you for this series. I really enjoyed it and loved your honesty. I started keto in January 2023 and dropped about 8 pounds in about 2 weeks. I love vegetables but soon realized after about a month that the vegetables were causing all of my discomfort: horrible bloating and gas for hours. I have immersed myself in keto videos and several discussed digestive issues being resolved by moving into a carnivore diet. I did this out of desperation to alleviate my stomach pain after meals. This has worked beautifully for me. All of my pain, gas, and bloating has gone; and the weight loss has continued. A lot of your recipes are also carnivore, so I will keep watching! Thank you for all that you do! 😊

I had chronic fatigue and life was getting unbearable...at 46 years old! A friend suggested Dr Bergs book early 2019 and I read it cover to cover over a couple of days and then watched a myriad of videos from diff keto youtubers, read research, read and listened to anecdotal evidence. The one thing that made it so successful for me (I felt hope! finally within 3-4 days) was that I did intermittent fasting with keto. I didnt know they were separate until 3 months in! I thought that was just how you did keto. For an all in kind of person like me, I was glad I didn't know. But a year later, I feel like IF is just slightly more valuable, but I cant imagine life without keto. And all that I've learned on this journey.

Very solid advice in my experience. Wish I'd taken that before picture, too late for that now. My most important advice would be to commit to it mentally and to not loose hope or judge yourself when you experience setbacks. The supermarket is filled with 80% temptation food and only 20% wholesome food. Slip up, forgive yourself and just keep on going. Btw, I find it hugely impressive that you managed to do this in a household filled with temptations. It's so much easier to overcome temptation when there is nothing unhealthy around.

My advise now that I am in my 3rd year on keto is that each persons’ journey is just that. YOUR JOURNEY! Not a specific you tuber, your neighbor, or the person you stood behind in the grocery store. Take all the tips, advise and scientific information and make it your own. You are N=1. I will echo the tip in this video, have keto snacks handy. In my first year, I had to have good options handy. I still now in my third year ensure I have a good keto friendly option around even though I do not need it nearly as often. Second tip is work into whatever level of time restricted eating/intermittent fasting you can manage as you implement and grow your keto lifestyle. 3rd tip that I wish I had paid more attention to in my early keto journey is Electrolytes, Electrolytes, Electrolytes! While I near felt really bad, I believe I would have felt better if I had been paying more attention to my electrolyte intake. Lastly for anyone new to keto is welcome.

I was on keto for about 6 months. Lost about 30lbs. I ended up gaining it back but because I got lazy again and started eating everything. I would say what I learned is give yourself cheats. I hated my keto because I started it in sept. I missed out on all the holiday foods, etc. That was hard and I was miserable. Allow yourself to cheat on those days, but still control what you eat. The first time I at carbs after keto I remember feeling like crap. I felt like I had a bowling ball in my belly. Take it easy. Also, I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks, then another 10 in another month, then it slowed down drastically. Expect that, do lose faith. It happens. Everyone has different effect. Remember that. Just stick to your plan, and it will happen. Good luck.

I cleaned the house of all junk food, sweets, cookies, pasta and flour. I said to myself that from now on this is what I will be doing for my health, there is no going back, the same commitment an alcoholic has to take but with sweet foods. I reached a two meal a day rythm with 18 hour intermittent fasting and sometimes one meal a day. I'm 69 and have lost 106 pounds in 369 days. Off of diabetes meds with a perfect consistent blood sugar level and off high blood pressure meds (with my doctors approval) BP 128/79. My wife followed my diet but with regular three meals a day and she went from 145 down to 120 pounds without even noticing any stress. I had the exact same side effects as described in this vlog. No more greasy sweaty skin, no more scalp itch, no more ear canal itch, no bad breath (I eat lots af salad) no more heart burn but more farts??. Also some constipation due to reduced amount of food volume. My system was used to "processing" five meals a day and now it tries to squeeze every bit of nutriment from what food it receives, thus bowel movement is less frequent and harder. I have increased my fiber and fluid intake.

Just started Keto and am amazed! I was a hard core carbaholic eating all day due to constant hunger. I went Keto for my seizures after research lead me to this...Dr.’s have prescribed this diet to cure/manage seizures since the 1920’s. Well, my extreme inflammation went away which alleviated my pain due to scoliosis, L4/L5 issues, etc. I’m waking up early with tons of energy. I’m able to walk on the treadmill again without pain. I’m 5’-8” and 120, so weight loss was not why I chose this diet. I chose it for my health, and I will never go back to the pain I had before! Clean Keto all the way with intermittent fasting saved my sanity!

My husband wanted to go Keto to lose weight from massive steroids he was on for years, I joined him in solidarity. We are now BOTH Keto lifestyle, not a diet. What changed my mind was realizing a week in that I didn’t hurt anymore, my arthritis virtually disappeared- amazing what getting rid of all those bad oils can do for your body. Great tip on the electrolytes- those cramps are NO JOKE!! I have to say that since you’re the only Keto in your house impresses me so very much. I don’t think I could’ve done it on my own. Friend, just finished the entire series on your transformation. So much of what you say is so spot on. Thank you for sharing. Started my keto journey Jan 7th, 2020. 255lbs, 5' 10", 55yrs old. Now 185lbs and 5' 11"! Gained an inch in height. Weird. Anyway, I did a lot of what you did and have a similar journey. The advice regarding not talking about keto is sound. The first rule about Keto is we never talk about keto. Everyone knows all the things we cannot eat. "Wow, what do you eat then?" is a typical question. I say, "Everything else". I started watching your cooking videos and finally this week, subscribed. I saw your journey series and saw how long they are. Debated about watching and so glad I did. My wife is also keto now. She waited 2 months after I started, saw the results and figured why not. She is down to 145lbs from a hair over 190lbs starting weight. New clothes, able to exercise finally, people seeing us after months wanted to know if we were ok or was our weight loss due to illness. The times we live in now I guess, with covid. To date my best friend from HS and his wife have joined the club as well as my sister and brother-in-law. All doing well and very thankful for our example and willingness to share what we did.(once we knew where they stood on keto. so true) I am the primary cook in our house and the food I have been able to make on keto is as good or better than preketo, IMO. Folks coming to our house love the food we put on the table and realize that no, in fact we are not starving ourselves. We eat, period. Keep up the videos. I will keep cooking and sharing when appropriate. God bless friend. Congrats on your success.

God Bless You Steve. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story. I'm so happy for you. Truly I am. As a type two diabetic, I went for my annual physical anly to discover my bloodwork showed my kidney function was down to 28%. My doctor took me off my diabetes meds and I paniced. Living in rural Ohio, it took 6 weeks before I could see a Nephrologist! That wasn't "Rock Bottom" as you put it, I wasn't blind, I didn't have a heart attack, I didn't have to sacrifice a foot, but I realized, even though my A1c was 5.9-6.2 for nearly 8 years, according to the American Diabetes Association I was doing fine. Yet here I am scared to death of dyalisis the rest of my life. When doc took me off meds, I said, if my body cannot metabolize carbs cut them out and I did. Ketogenic was the best option for me. I am 67, insulin resistant for many years. In one year on Keto, I have lost almost 20 pounds, have reduced my blood glucose to a nondiabetic's level A1c 5.4, and improved my kidney function from 28% to 68%! No diabetes meds - in remission. Over those diabetic years, I did everything ADA said. It looks like they may be considering a very low carb (

I have a pair of jeans I kept from high school and I'm 40 now - one of my favourites. Got too fat over the years but now they fit once more and are a little lose :) it's a wonderful feeling! Buy new clothes is like the cherry on top - assuming you can afford it of course. Feeling great, looking great and wearing new clothes only improves the mood and the determination I feel! Solo keto or low carb is tough when you live with others - totally have the same scenario! Lots of rice (although I have converted them to cauliflower rice on occasion), bread, fruit, etc. Oils is a tough one too - cooking for one in a family space is also not great, especially when meals are a family orientated thing - as they should be - just adds to the challenge :)

Very touching and heartfelt videos, glad you could share with us from video 1 to 6. January 2 2019 I decided to change my overweight life. I am 5'5" and climbed up to 192 lbs, in photos I looked BIG and was prediabetic. I knew I didn't want to become diabetic and have all the problems and meds that go along with that...so I dove in right away after doing research on Keto...alot of research and kept track of weight, and inches lost. After 8 months I lost 30 inches between bust and hips...and now from a size 14 plus to size 6-8 blood sugar good. So I tell my friends, do it for yourself, your health, to feel better for yourself. I look at old photos and cringe, and no more wine, which was my downfall. Some tell me "I carried my overweight well" ha...When my son picked me up at the airport with his wife, 7 months after keto, they didn't know right away that it was me and then they gave me a huge hug and told me how great I looked and younger. Boy did I feel good about myself. Like you said, I've never ate so many greens and healthy vegatables before Keto and looking at what the SAD is today, we Keto-ites eat healthier than them. Thank you Steve, for your encouragement and your straight up reviews etc.!!!

I agree. I bought a gorgeous blue leather coat at my local thrift store for $2.72. It looked brand new. I kept noticing how nice the coat was, but did not realize just ‘how nice’ it was. I did some research and found the exact same coat on eBay with the price tag still on it. It was just over $300! My whole family buys 90 % of our clothes from that store. We are all the time getting complements on what we are wearing. We live in a college town and there are a lot of wealthy people here. I guess they get bored with their clothes and just get rid of them by donating them to get new ones. That’s great for my family and other savvy shoppers. We dress great for a fraction of the cost. And while the rich folks are working to pay for their new expensive clothes, my family and I are taking vacations with the money we have saved! Our daughter is 18 and she, along with her dad and I have been to nearly every National Park in the US. Thrift store shopping works for us! I’ve even made a bit of money selling some of the things I’ve found at thrift stores!

What a wonderful change in my life, I can not even imagine going back to “normal” eating again because this is now my normal. Down 28# and want to lose about 20 more so I will lean on you for more motivation as your voice and advice are perfect for my voyage. It cannot end yet, 82 years and still counting. Thank you 👏👏👏

Happy New Year and enjoy your vacation! After 2 yrs of on and off Keto my motto is “keto is forgiving”. Keto won’t punish you if you go off for a while. It will welcome you back when you return. The journey is very individual, it’s hard watching people with a lot of support but your channel show it can be done with temptations around. My keto lifestyle has evolved over the years so my suggestion is listen and follow the path that works for you in the moment, you may be in a different path down the keto journey. I did keto snacks and ketofied baked good, I tried IF and have found almost carnivore to be the best current lifestyle. Who knows where I’ll be by the end of the year, but I know I’ll be in a good food lifestyle place. Wishing everyone who embraces Keto much healthy!

Great series! Thank you for sharing your story with us. My advice to those who are thinking about the keto lifestyle or who are new to it AND have very limited budgets is first, get the best that you can afford--it is better than the Snickers or Doritos that you had been eating. I am living in Chile on a very small veterans pension so I understand how hard it is to hear the gurus say "eat grass fed/grass finished/pastured/organic....." Turns out, those things are only 1% better than grain fed or grain finished, and for some of us, prohibitively expensive. This is not an elitist way of eating--it is a human appropriate diet. If you can't afford those items, don't worry about it. Just buy what you can afford. If you need (and you will, unless you go carnivore like me) electrolyte supplements but cannot afford them or they are not easily accessible (like me), buy some lite salt, which is potassium, regular salt and mix 1/2 tspn each in a cup of hot water. When I was doing "normal keto" this worked great. If you don't like fish/shellfish/seafood, take a good fish oil supplement. Make sure it has no sugars. If you are allergic, you will need to get the vegan one made from algae. The omega 3's are essential and you are not going to get enough from your food. Not everyone can tolerate all the vegetables. Not everyone can tolerate dairy--especially liquid dairy. Symptoms of intolerance are diarrhea, constipation, gas, and bloating. If after a month on keto, you are having these symptoms, you need to dial back on these things until you can find the culprit(s). So many things...but these are just off the top of my head. Steve...if you ever start a podcast, I would love to chat with you and your audience on these themes. Before I came to Chile, I was a scientist. I have done extensive research and have been living low carb/paleo/keto/carnivore since 1999 when I weighed over 350 pounds. It was this lifestyle that allowed me to lose over 200 pounds and keep it off for over 15 years. Anyway...I hope that some of my advice helps others. Keep up the great work. Enjoy your vacation and happy New Year!

Your candor is refreshing. It makes your content honest and helps [some of] us be more comfortable with our own challenges. One of the lessons is that things we once thought were seriously important, really aren't. I remember a great lesson: A) Don't sweat the small stuff and, B) It's all small stuff. Congratulations for finding your freedom. Be well.

Really enjoy your videos. My keto journey echos much of yours with the side effects both good and bad. I've been doing keto since September 2018. I have lost 90 lbs. Still about that much more to go. I sleep better, am more active. One of the best side effects is that I don't get sleepy during the day especially after lunch. One thing I would stress is the importance of electrolytes. I used to cramp all the time even just trying to tie my shoes. Once I started purposely taking electrolytes, all cramping subsided. Best thing I use a solution called 40000 Volts. Tried others but this works best for me. Again, thanks for the videos and sharing your experience. GO PACKERS! ON WISCONSIN!

This series is an amazing benefit to the keto community, especially those starting out! The main thing I wish I had realized is how customizable this w.o.e is. I had been overwhelmed by the tracking, "rules", and media vs. science. Don't let it boggle you, just do it! If you wait until you know everything, you lose valuable, life-saving time. Take your pictures (I regret not doing so), take your measurements and take charge! I am constantly learning new things about myself and my body, adjusting as I go and feeling better every day! Your channel has made the journey much more enjoyable and sustainable. I can't thank you enough! I highly recommend starting with this channel for people who are keto curious (and, honestly, everyone else too lol).

Really, really enjoyed this series. I too watched it consecutively, and learned a lot about you and keto. Loved your section on prayer, that was amazing. Can't help wondering what happened with the problems you encountered back then - lawsuit, son's choice, etc. Enjoying following your cooking videos too. I've just been on low-carb for a couple of weeks, so I'm going to follow your gradual immersion into keto. Thanks for everything.
