You admitted to not wearing deodorant, smelling "a little bit", and not taking showers for multiple days in a row. I absolutely LOVE this. This is exactly the opposite of the strict, high-maintenance nonsense that I've seen on a lot of TikToks and on YT where women show their vigorous, multi-step routines where they strip their bodies of every natural thing in order to slather on bottles and bottles of chemicals. Thank you for being so candid. Also, depending on how long you have been Vegan, you probably don't have any malodorous body smells because you're plant-based.

Who Gives a Crap is a toilet paper company who make their papers from recycled office paper and bamboo. All their packaging is paper, and they also donate a chunk of profits to build toilets in places that need them. They ship the rolls to your door in large quantities. I recommend 👍🏻

The "rock crystal" is actually mineral salts. Yes it needs wet skin or wet the crystal. The salts actually prevent and kill the odour causing bacteria. There is 0 Aluminum Chlorhydrate in the one I use. After drying off I use quick spritz of Lavender oil mixed with water. I have run 1/2 marathons, sweat and had no odour at the end.

Not smelling when you sweat could be a mutated gene. I don’t smell either and I also have dry ear wax (gross I know lol better than smelling though). But those two characteristics in combination apparently is symptoms of a specific mutated gene

That mutated gene is prominent in northeast Asia! When I used to live there deodorant wasn't a thing, and still kind of aren't, because body odor is considered something you get only if you are a particularly gross person or worked out to a point one was drenched in sweat (and in that case you'd hop into a shower immediately anyway, so still no B.O.). If someone started having body odor after just a regular day, people would be concerned that he/she has a medical condition lmao

Hi guys! I just want to make a quick comment about *fluoride* just so that my intentions/beliefs on it don't get twisted by interpretations here. I 10000% put my foot in my mouth mentioning that, and firstly, I acknowledge that that was wrong. I am NOT a medical professional (just as I always say). So I was relaying information from someone who was, after I had spoken to my dentist and some members of my family (who are Drs) about it. I have seen it WAY too many times, and have personally been *deeply* affected by KZfaqrs in the alternative health space giving absurd health advice that I took seriously. I in no way want to be one of them, that’s something that is very important to me, since it affected my own journey in a very negative light. I would never ever want to make recommendations that encourage [specifically the young impressionable portion of my audience (although my audience is actually relatively older, in relation to KZfaq “norms”)] irresponsible behaviour. I genuinely wanted to include it because I didn’t want to be irresponsible, but I didn’t word my intentions clearly, and misspoke. That was a mistake. I was running around doing a million things the day I filmed, rushed into filming to get a “to do” checked off, and didn’t think before saying what I said. I had made a mental note to say something about fluoride so that I didn’t misinform someone who might have thought it was in there before they trusted my advice, and and purchased it. And also for a fear of getting backlash from people advocating for fluoride use, had I not mentioned it. *What I meant to say, or should have said, was:* “If fluoride is something you’re concerned about, just be known that there isn’t any in here and you’ll have to find an alternative means of getting it, if that’s the case.” Or just not mentioned it at all (what I should have done), because again, I am not a medical professional. I think that the use of fluoride is something that we ALL GET TO CHOOSE whether we would like to include it or not, especially given there is a lot of twisted information on both sides. Don't be quick to believe every "article" out there, and look to unbiased peer reviewed research. I know not everyone will agree with my opinions all the time, and that's cool. That's the reality of the internet, y'know. I do personally drink tap water. I’m young (and poor) and don’t own a filter. But I honestly don’t know enough about it!! Because again, I am not a medical professional. I think my stance on this would be a lot different if I was. And let’s be real, dental stuff has never been that interesting to me tbh so I never really got into researching it in FULL like my geeky brain usually likes to do with other health topics (which is something I don't talk about much on the internet, because again, don't want to give unqualified health advice on the internet). At the end of the day, *I AM A YOUNG KZfaqR, not a medical professional* so DO NOT take my health advice (or another young youtuber's) as more trusting than your own research and speaking to someone who is. Question where studies come from, and look for as many sources as you can. And when in doubt, talk to a few individuals who understand the field better than you, and have done their own unbiased research. I should not have made a comment about it. And I hope that everyone knows they are free to include it or not, should they choose to. Just as I think I’m am free to drink tap water, because at this point in my journey, I choose to. Sorry for the panic for those of you who aren’t into fluoride. You’re entitled to your own decisions about YOUR health, as am I. Cheers & much luv x (p.s. Thnx 4 c0miNg 2 mi teD TaLk haha sorry for the novel jusssss bein’ honest over here.) 💛

Sedona Christina, I live in central Florida, and in my county the water isn’t fluoridated. But when I spoke with a dental hygienist, she said if you would like to avoid fluoride, a toothpaste with Xylitol is a good alternative since Xylitol also works as a enamel hardener. Just don’t let your dog get to it as ingesting Xylitol is deadly for dogs. This was a good video!

Love that you mentioned fluoride! So many people avoid it, but it's such a good thing for the enamel of your teeth! I don't need deodorant if I wash my armpits every day. I do use a spritz of water with a few drops of essential oil for a hint of scent. I also use a sprayer I bought hooked up to my toilet as a bidet. It was easy to install and can be removed without causing any damage to the toilet. TMI warning: The downsides are that it's cold water only and I still use toilet paper for #2.

Girl! I got a bidet attachment (made from plastic and metal) from Home Depot to add to my toilet and it has completely eliminated the need for TP. Shelby has a 7 day bidet challenge and it convinced me to get one. I love it! I feel so much cleaner since using it (no mid-afternoon funk from the nether regions), and you get to control how much water you use. I still have TP for guests, but I personally don’t use it at all anymore. And I installed it myself, no tools necessary (I can do scary things). Best thing is that since you’re renting, it can be removed easily and brought with you to your next house.

Sugar and Salt crubs (and coffee) cause microtears on the skin, which can open the possibility of infection, as well. I think maybe oatmeal powder (just put oats in a blender) would be safer, but I think a brush and soap would be just fine. I hear chemical exfoliants are more effective anyway!

I use coffee scrub on my body. Wait 30m or so for it to dry then use a towel to wipe down the coffee ground to the floor, i’ll sweep it later. Then, i step into this big thing that look like a baby wash tub, i do not know what it’s called in English, don’t know if it even exists in Western countries. Then i use a big mug to slowly and carefully pour water on my body to wash any coffee left. The water in that wash tub which contains tiny coffee scrubs is use to water the plants in my garden later. Finally, i take a shower as usual. No coffee going to the pipes.

Also, a method I use as a bidet are the portable bidet squirt bottles. You just fill it w/warm water and you squeeze it lol. They’re advertised to pregnant women, but really it’s really great and does the job well. There are some on amazon.

There's a bidet attachment that just goes right onto the toilet and can be taken off once you move to the new one place. And they don't do damage. It's pretty much like installing a different shower head.

I bought the bar none after i heard you mention it on your channel. i was speechless!!! it's just as good, maybe even better than my liquid vegan, SLS paraben etc. free conditioner. i'm going to try your shampoo bar as well. maybe also toothpaste, because i've never found a zero waste one that works for me.

Something to note for all the ladies that might be interested in getting a safety razor: Pretty much all of the safety razors specifically marketed to women are rebranded private label manufactured razors, so chances are you can find the exact same razor for a lot cheaper if you're okay with it not having pastel coloured paint on it. (Look at Weishi, Baili, DS Cosmetics etc.) Most razors are also cast from Zamak (zinc-copper alloy) that has been chrome plated. It's a decent material and will last long if you look after it, but it can fracture or chip if dropped or knocked, since cast metals are brittle like glass. The most common breakage you'll see is the top cap's threaded post shearing clean off/having it stay behind in the handle's threads after being dropped from standing height or mishandled during shipping. Due to being cast, they can't be repaired in any way. You could replate a razor after having lost its chrome, though. In my opinion, the most underrated (and mostly unknown to women wanting to get into using a safety razor) product range out there would be Razorock's line of 100% stainless steel safety razors. (Sold on their ItalianBarber website) They cost only slightly more (around $60 to $70) than most of the razors made of Zamak and they have none of their weaknesses. Definitely the best value for money in the wet shaving market. If you already have a razor, don't sweat it, but if you're still looking to buy one, be sure to check them out. You'd like their "super knurl" handle. West Coast Shaving also sells a razor made specifically for women, with a silicone-covered extra-long handle and a set-angle razor head. Also, one piece of advice: Wet shave. Canned foam is "dry" and filled with air that makes the experience uneven and its application doesn't prep your hair. Get some sort of brush and a shaving soap that actually lathers well. If you want vegan, PAA's CK6 formula is explosive and synthetic/horse hair brushes don't involve utilizing something from dead animals.

when i switched to bar soap i cut off the bottom of my newly empty liquid body wash bottle, made some holes in it for draining, and thats what my body bars have been using for about a year now. i was able to reuse something, avoid buying something new, and filled my need of having somewhere to put my bar of soap that would let it drain nicely so it wouldnt turn to mush (as you mentioned)

My mom crocheted me a soap bag to use in the shower with my bars of soap. It’s made with natural bamboo wool and can be composted when I choose to let it go. Because of the antimicrobial properties of bamboo, and because bamboo wool doesn’t felt, I can actually put it in the wash if needed. I love that it has just the right texture to exfoliate my dry but sensitive skin. Have you looked into toilet paper without rolls? Do you use synthetic bristles in your toothbrush? (I know they offer nylon, plant and animal based depending on the company)

Thanks for the great video! I’m currently on a months supply of dent tabs. To be honest, neither me nor my boyfriend like them. At first, I used to gag a little at the first chew because it’s like that feeling you get when you fail to swallow a pill and it goes dry and powdery in your mouth. Anyway, you’d get over that. But for me, they just don’t create enough paste to get a good clean - I’ve used up to three at a time and that sort of works. But my mouth just hasn’t felt properly clean since I started using them

I have yet to find a conditioner bar to suit me, but I have found that the several bars I have tried are brilliant for shaving my legs. They leave your skin really well moisturised, and it means I can try out new conditioner bars, without having to worry about them being wasted if they don't suit my hair. Xx

I've kept following your videos for a while and they're motivating when you're part of the zero waste movement and it feels like you're doing this alone, thanks alot! I juste wanted to add that skipping fluoride is not something that should be encourage since it's the ONLY thing that protects your teeth to get cavities so the rest of the ingredients are present just to whiten your theet and get a nice breath. So no problem to avoid fluoride until you don't have any theet left. Fluoride is dangerous if you eat a lot (go for one with less than 50mg/100g) of it or on it's gas form. Because with things like this it would be easily turn around by "against zero waste/diy" when the results will eventually show.

Not the only thing, there are also toothpastes formulated around calcium hydroxyapatite as the re-mineralization promoting ingredient. Hydroxyapatite is what makes up like 97% of your enamel and 70-ish(?)% of your dentin (and also most of your bones), so in that sense it's as natural as it gets, but its most effective toothpaste forms are the micro and nano-sized particle ones, and I don't know if those can be made through sustainable processes so far (or if anyone's tried). Since it's already used in so many places in the body and also exists as an ingestible supplement, it's safe even for kids to swallow, unlike fluoride.

The deodorant stone you are talking about is what we call “Pierre d’Alun” in France, I brought some with me in the US and I use it sometimes. Mine was made by Thierry Mugler already years ago. It is a natural deodorant, however I was reading that it was containing some aluminum and the studies are not deep enough to know if it is dangerous or not. So, something to check and follow in the future... I don’t use it all the time, I bought some natural aluminum free deodorant and I’m very happy with it. I never buy antiperspirant because I think it goes against nature. But this is a very personal opinion.

If you have a green thumb it might be worth looking in to growing soapwort. Both the roots and the leaves, boiled in water, can be used to make a gentle liquid soap that can be on hair and skin. It can be mixed with an oil for scent, and it lathers! Conservators use it to clean delicate fabrics that modern synthetic soaps would otherwise damage.

I have a bidet at home that I convinced my family to switch over to after I visited Japan, where they are extremely common. I live in a college dorm now and it was so hard to switch back to regular T.P. ☠️ jsyk there are a lot of bidet brands that you can attach to your toilet very easily that are easily removable that I'm sure you could use in an apartment. they save soooo much money and are way more effective.

I've been using ACV for a few years but just this month delved into shampoo bars since my favorite bottle shampoo is almost empty. I got a 15 sample pack from Apple Valley Soap and I am still in the "transition phase" so cant tell if I like any of them yet (but seriously love them as soap). Love my safety razor, it was one of the most "duh" transitions when I had to get new heads for my Venus, I don't really understand why some people are scared to use one lol. I chose the bathroom as the easiest place for me to transition to low/zero waste since I still live at home and I am almost completely transitioned. It is so great having plastic free and reusable products that actually ended up costing less than their counterparts. (I do have a very simple hygiene and makeup routine anyway so that helped).

I finally got a chance to visit the eco collective because of you! I usually go the Ballard farmers market and remembered that it was there. Such a cute shop and my fiancé, who adjusting to my new lifestyle choices, got a safety razor there! I saw the toothpaste there and I was wondering: How would you properly recycle it? Would you have to cut it open to remove the remaining toothpaste? Is the cap plastic? Does it come with the “squeezing tool” to remove the last bit or do you buy it separately?
