In August of 2016 I sat down with John F. Barnes the Father of Modern Myofascial Release. In this new interview we discussed more of the deeper aspects of MFR that have perplexed and astounded many of the practitioners. This is the whole interview with minor cuts for interruptions.

I don't feel so alone now. I've been doing this for 5 years and not interested in becoming an PT. I'm a classically trained musician and this keeps me pain free, anxiety free and functioning like I"m 16 again. I'm 64, six months or so from 65, and feel younger. Fascia is strong. But if you touch it lightly and wait...about a minute, it just does what it does, trigger points have a millisecond of pain and the release of emotional baggage...stress, I know where on my body to go to get instant change...and calm returns to it's natural state...I moaned out loud a lot over the many years of being human. Now, I just feel natural, most days and people think I've lost touch, actually, it's quite the opposite. Thank God for this man...again. I thought I was pretty much the only one in this zone...I'm not alone anymore. John F. I'm going for the century mark and so far, being able to do this anytime, anywhere no nothing other than me, my body healing itself and setting medical science on fire, like Chicago. He's like 100 years ahead of us all. This is the way things should be, but haven't been for centuries. Timeless....now I understand the rest of it. Other's too, I notice. Wow....never thought I'd learn how to keep my body functioning and strong. I still ride my cruiser like a 20 year old and roller skate...it's always got to be fun for men. We just want to have a good time anyway, no matter what we do, so John, thank you for your work, kind sir. Nobel Prize wouldn't even be close, not that it's about such. Just wonderful.....

I would love to know if you are still pursuing this in your every day life? I'm in Britain (and it's 2021!) and the book is really quite expensive to buy! And coming over for training sessions is not an option - how can I learn how to do this for myself please?

@@seaspray9144 you can learn to "listen to your body" by shutting down your senses that give you outside information - i.e., I wear a sleep mask to prevent my eyes from finding something outside myself to pay attention to - so I can fully focus my attention on feelings and sensations inside my body. Turn your attention, your "awareness" to the most LOUD (read painful) sensation and allow your body to move in any way it is naturally drawn. Keep following the sensations until they no longer produce pain but are fully released and you feel natural to go to the next area. This is the unwinding process. Soon you will have unwound yourself completely and be totally overcome with feelings of bliss and total relief. I started by laying across a big blow-up exercise ball and everywhere my body touched the ball helped me find the painful spots. Now I don't need the ball. Keep practicing - your body will reward you for every tiny effort you put into helping it.❣️

This is an overall, highly beneficial video that's informative, profound, wise, unconventional, encouraging, uplifting, empowering, inspiring, and mind & heart opening/consciousness expanding (thanks to John); however COMMA at around 23:23, the volume went down a cliff. What's up with that Ed? I was watching this video via TV, and increased the volume all the way up to 100, but I still couldn't hear what John was saying. Moving on. Anyway, thank you for sharing this video regardless of the technical glitch. Nighty night.

I have hEDS. Myofacial Release is absolutely the ONLY therapy my body responds to positivity to give me pain relief. The issue is finding a massage therapist and/or a PT that understands the technique and uses it properly. Ty for validating my body’s response and those that use the techniques correctly.

I wish we had therapist around here that cared. I haven't lived in so long. I too have had everything I love taken. Myofascial therapy made me so sick. Did they approach wrong?? God bless this man.

I think it can make you feel sick because it is releasing toxins. Stay with it if you can. It will get easier as your toxins are released and draining. One thing to understand is that none of your systems are functioning properly if you're ability to receive nutrients and get rid of toxins is blocked. When I first detoxed after being bedridden from fibromyalgia, I thought I was dying. Releasing toxic waste is that dramatic!
