In 1947 a National Park was created; Everglades National Park. There are over 360 species of birds that have been seen in this 1.5 million acre park. Neotropic Cormorant can be found throughout the West Indies and most commonly in Texas in the U.S. They are found throughout Mexico, Central and northern South America. Neotropic Cormorants breed in the Bahamas, Cuba and Texas to the west. You would think that this species would be a normally occurring species in Florida. Palm Beach County has had a couple of them breeding in the last 20-years. Monroe County as a few known nesting locations but not Miami-Dade County as far as we know. This species as also been seen in many U.S. states as a vagrant bird.
