Just cast reduce size or telekinesis spell on them? Though the ring of anti magic and reducing cannon balls to pellet size then loading into a gun then having it pass through the ring of anti magic at high speed cause it to be a cannon that was hand sized

I personally just really like the idea of a book with a lot of magic items. You get some in supplemental books but usually they appear in adventures and are honestly not that balanced or interesting or really capable of being used outside of the adventure. The fact that supplements are usually just race, class or monster-based means that magic items can be pushed to the wayside outside of books about a new setting.

@@HPDeskjet-jo1bo I have his book, and the magic items are all really cool and have unique ideas, although I will say the guy is terrible at ranking magic items by rarity. There's quite a few Very Rare magic items that are equivalent in power to a Uncommon magic item from the DMG.

For the ring of temporal salvation, I think it's to guard against being killed by damage that lowers hit point maximum - at late level having your max hp reduced to zero, then being revived with a max hp of zero and instantly dying. More a late level thing I think.

@@NerdImmersion But as you suspected, AS WRITTEN if a lower level character with a Hit Point Maximum lower than what was rolled after dying would increase their Max HP.

It is however a rare item, so it is not meant for low level players. Still not impossible some characters will gain a few max hit points from this. A level 2 wizard with a con mod of 2 will have average HP of 13.5 and will gain an average of 12.5 HP from the ring, of course these are averages, and he could get lucky.

There are also weaps that give you exhaustions levels when you get hit, seems like a spefici counter. Alternatively you can give that ring to a child and when they get killed they are revived with more hit points :D You get a very healthy child

Vox Seeker idea: A party is walking through a storage house filled with Crates that happen to have the lids opened, but not removed. Somebody talks, and then a swarm of Vox Seekers start climbing out of the crates

Brooch of living essence seems for hiding good or evil characters hide from each other or maybe a aasimar trying to hide who they are . Sprites can reveal alignment on touch I believe.

Good for a Hollow One character to hide their true nature. It's also similar to the Ring of Mind Shielding

It could be used by NPCs or enemies as well to hide from a Paladin's divine sense class ability.

Paladins can detect outsiders and detect good/evil would detect alignment. The brooch of living essence would be great for a rakshasa, doppelganger, vampire, or some other creature masquerading as a normal humanoid.

the point of raising your hp on ring of Temporal Salvation, is if you die from like a vampire, by it lowering your MAX hp to 0, this'll fix that issue by making your max hp the value you rolled

I think the Vox Seeker could be useful as a narrative tool, since the damage only seems dangerous to un-classed npc's. Imagine the PC's are watching a performance or an important public speech where these things are let loose in an attempt to kill the famous npc. Chaos ensues, etc.

Funny build idea: Battlemaster fighter with the Charger feat, Pushing Attack, and that pushing shield. You can shove people really far with that.

Sadly, Charger's shove and Pushing Attack don't stack, because Pushing Attack requires a weapon attack. And the Charger Feat's shove is not a weapon attack.

@@DragonKnightJin I realized that after posting. Thankfully in my own game, which happens to be a Tal'dorei game, the DM has ruled in favor of stacking Pushing Attack and Charger for the luls. Now the dwarf fighter just needs to find this shield.

@@zeldamaster52 Nice. I can see why they'd allow it. It makes a certain narrative sense. And you're still using a Superiority Die, right? So it's not like it's free to do it. Battering Shield and Pushing Attack alone would push something 25ft back. 35ft with Charger added to that, too...

The Brooch of Living Essence might be good for a villain. The only thing I can come up with that reveals alignment is the Sprite's Heart Sight, which automatically succeeds if the creature is a celestial, fiend or undead. You can have a Sprite with the Warlocks Pact of The Chain. Couple that with sprites being able to be invisible and it being a familiar which you can communicate with telepathically and you can make sure the NPC your party is paranoid about is or isn't the BBEG.

I think it's meant for a powerful undead to hide in plain sight. A high ranking bishop who is secretly a vampire or lich would find would find that quite invaluable.

Technically, the bottle have to be empty to absorb the spell. So round 1 absorb, round 2 cast, round 3 absorb etc..

@@bluebird8221 only that absorbing is a reaction. So, round 1, spellcaster turn spell is cast - eaten by bottle, bottlefeeder turn, spell is cast by bottle, round 2 spellcaster turn, fume useless ly or cart spells - if spell is cast spell is eaten by bottle...

Tbf it is a legendary item. And only able to capture spells of 5th level or lower. By the time you get it you will likely have access to 7th level slots minimum and perhaps even 8th or 9th. Enemies also often use spells higher level then the players. So it's use beyond being a limited version of the ring of spell storing would be circumstantial unless the DM gave it at a lower level then it's designed for.

It also doesn't require attunement by a spellcaster. So your fighter/monk could be prepped with another concentration spell and then retain access to mini-counterspell during battle.

My only problem with the magic items. Is that the prosthetic limbs require attunement. It limits the player if they lose a limb and it also prevents players from making characters that have lost limbs.

@@williamings773 I feel like adding limbs to make extra attacks or holding shields would be attunement but it gets balanced as it adds the option for classes that do not have extra attack to get it such as rogue or the classes that have it to gain more.

Even if it didn't do anything action economy wise (more attacks/actions) and just let you have more items out (sword, shield and a wand) would make it strong enough. Also Warhammer 40k teach-priest.

@@williamings773 I might be wrong but ive read somewhere that u can have extra limbs (like arms or a tail) but they take twice the time to attune to. Not sure if what i read was oficial but u might want to check just in case.

The Temporal salvation ring is funky. I suppose if you are low enough level that your health can be lower than 3d6+Con it will raise your max HP.

The best argument against bumping the Hunters coat to a studded leather IS the fact that everyone wants to jump to studded.. Having this as a regular leather brings your ac down, but you gain something else in exchange. So you get a choice, do more damage, or take more hits. That's good design.

The dagger of mending lets you cast "Mending2 as an action. The cantrip requires a minute to be cast. The vox seeker comes in dozens. It's a common magic item.

The ring of Temporal salvatuon from what I understand does as follows. Once dead you vanish then return 5 ft away gain the 3d6 + con mod (A basic Res) If however when res'd the total number of hit point regained excides your characters current number of maximum hit points, Instead of gaining those extra hit points overthrowing your current maximun as let say temporary hit points, It just flat out increases your maximum to meet the amount you roled. For numbers people say your current HP max is 15. Your roles plus your con mod end up totaling 20. Instead of having it be 15hp + temp hit points, It turns your max hp from 15 to 20, Basically giving you max hp for free which is really cool. The temporary hit point idea however is a viable tweek if you wanted to give this item to a lower level player without the chance of possible giving the the significant buff of flat out gaining permenant max HP

Loving a lot of these magic items. The Vox Seeker seems like it's less about dealing damage and more about creating a disturbance. Instead of sending in the bard to charm a guard or the wizard to create an illusion to draw them away, just wind up your little metal murder crab and have it lightning-pinch the guy, giving you a few moments to stealth your way past his startled ass.

0:58 Acheron is pronouned "ækərən" with a "kh". It's the name of one of the rivers of the dead in Greek mythology. (Fun Fact: It's also the name of the enemy ship in Master & Commander)

The Arcane Cannon has been used on Critical Role. *SPOILERS AHEAD* when the Mighty Nein went into the Happy Fun Ball (a.k.a the Archmage's Bane, a.k.a the Folding Halls of Halas) to find their wizard friend (the archmage in Nicodranas, I forget his name, I kinda suck at that since I don't take note for the show) and they tricked the first Mageslayer Collosus into that hall and blasted it with two Arcane Cannons. I know, I suck at describing scenes, badass or otherwise

As someone playing a Twilight Cleric, I just got extremely excited about the coin of delving... If it always emits dim light, that means having it on you solves the problem of needing dim light to activate the flying ability you get at 6th level.

My personal Favorites would be the Drunkard’s Amulet, The Brooch of Living Essence, the Dispelling Stone, the Dusk Crusher, The Dust of Deliciousness, Needle of Mending, Orb of the Veil, Reincarnation Dust, Ring of Temporal Salvation, Spell Bottle, Staff of Dunamancy, and Weapon of Certain Death. I like a large amount of these Magic Items and I’m confident the Vestiges will stack up well. Personally if I had to pick a Top 5 from just these, it’d be the Ring of Temporal Salvation at 5th, Brooch of Living Essence at 4th, Staff of Dunamancy at 3rd, Weapon of Certain Death at 2nd, and the Dusk Crusher at 1st. The one I’m most interested in though is the Weapon of Certain Death. I thought it’d do more given the name like have a chance to possibly insta kill the opponent (like the Nine Lives Stealer) but that’s Healing Negation would probably be very effective against regenerating enemies like trolls since they could probably still die from this since it keeps them from regenerating.

yeah, plus, if you're going up against an enemy that has high level heal capabilities, if you give your fighter the weapon of certain death, that can make a potentially lethal encounter into one that would be much easier fight

Yeah. Plus it can be any weapon so even if you aren’t a fighter, it’ll probably work for you. A Monk could use one that’s a Quarter Staff or Shortsword, Rogues could use them for Sneak Attack, Paladins can use them with Smites, Etceteras. Personally it’s one of my favorite Template Type Magic Items where it’s just a property you can apply to a few different types of items

The spell bottle doesn't really seem "legendary" since it's just a weaker ring of spell storing, but with a free, but limited, counterspell. Should be rare or very rare in my opinion. the ring of obscuring has artwork that's way more interesting than the item itself with the creepy one-eyed skull. Otherwise, great magic items. Really just makes me want another Xanathars book with more player options/magic items/ monsters. Honestly it's the only stuff I usually rip or gawk at in the newer books.

@Nerd Immersion - The ring's maximum hitpoint clause is there to protect you from health drain effects. Theres creatures that drain your HP max, and if they dropped you to 0, you'd die die. However that clause protects from that

that Ring of Temporal Salvation is likely worded like it is in case your character dies from Exhaustion or from Max HP hitting 0 (like what almost happened to Fjord that one time)

The ring of temporal salvation as it reads to me will most liekly come into affect if you die from certain necromantic spells that lower max hp. Like the harm spell can't kill you but lowers your maximum hp. If you hp is lowered to 1 then something kills you this ring revives you and makes your max hp 3d6+con mod I think harm is the only spell that does this but im not sure Also for the vox seeker, most spells have a verbal component that means the caster is speaking you wind this up and it will go after anyone who tries to cast spells, and attacks then if it hits they then have to make concentration checks if they were concentrating on a spell giving you a chance to interrupt them and wasting their turn, as well as the spell slot.

If you are a pact of the chain warlock and take a sprite they have a heart sense so they can detect ppls alignment

That ring is useful for effects that kill you and normally would prevent you from being revived, that is to say dying and having your hit point maximum reduced to 0 or dying from exhaustion. (Those kill you extra dead because if you're revived and you have a maximum hp of 0 or 6 levels of exhaustion, you die.)

If your maximum number of hit points is less than the 3d6+Con that your rolled, your maximum number of hit points increases to whatever you rolled. For instance, if your current max hp is 15, and you roll 6+5+6[3d6] +3[Con 16] = 20, then your maximum hp is set to 20, and your current hp is set to 20. It does not say anything about a time limit, so this is a PERMANENT increase to your maximum hp. So give it to your level 1 5 hp Wizard, and you can increase (probably) their max hp by killing them. :)

So detect good and evil would be alignment, detect creature type would be for detect undead or detect planar creature, also I believe for abilities that would give an advantage at detecting a creature of a certain species.

The ring of temporal salvation I feel is a later game item. I think the flavor with the disappearing and all is meant to be Chronothurgy where you return to an alternate version of you. The whole max HP, i feel, applies only to when something has reduced your HP for some reason. In the campaign, they encountered a couple of creatures that reduced their Max HP, and there was bad news when their max HP was reduced to 0. This ring could save you from even that.

Yes, I used to play a feylock with a sprite familiar and he was very useful in detecting peoples alignments, especially since he could do it while invisible and we could communicate telepathically.

I think the reason why they have the ring of temporal salvation state that is in the case you had Max hp reduction, or if you max hp drops to 0 and you had died out right. I will say I have not looked to much into someone dying from Max hp reduced to 0, so I don’t know if someone with 0 max hp who died will have their normal hp back if they get revived, or if they will have a total max hp of 1

I think the rise of max hp from the right is there in case to die as a result of your max hp being dropped by some effect such as a vampire or other various undead

The Battering shield, with that +1 to armor, it sounds more like a buckler (small but quite practical shield)

I could see a Druid using the Orb of the Vail and DM changing produce flame to ray of frost, Flaming Sphere to Snow ball changing it to cold damage and Flame blade to Ice Club for a Knight King or Lich king type idea

It would work on the first bolt. Once it jumps it's treated as another attack with the same slot

Heres how i would run that ring of undying, the player has 10 hit point maximum for reasons, and then dies, they roll a 12 in total +1 due to their constitution, their maximum would raise to 13 cause that's the number they ended up with that's higher than their maximum, if their maximum is 20 and they get 13 they will be 13 out of 20 health, cause the amount they regain is below their maximum.
