New Seagate 14TB HDD Loud Sounds!!!

Brand new Seagate 14TB Expansion HDD External Desktop Hard drive and its making this sound, is this Normal?
It was shipped to me, perhaps the courier dropped it, but this is the second one within a two week window I had, the first one had the same problem, so I got an exchange.
Things to Note:
1. It is from a reputable company "B and H Photo"
2. I've own the 4TB version of this exact HDD and its been great to me no sounds.
3. I'm a computer savvy person, and I have run multiple chkdsk types and used the Seatool app as well, everything comes back fine.
4. I have not dropped it, moved it while it was running, knocked it accidentally, I'm extremally particular and careful with my computer equipment.
So... what could this be? two lemons in a row?

This is crazy.. This is legit how every hard drive I have bought in the last month sounds like. I thought I was losing my mind so I compared it to older, similar capacity drives and nope, none of them make any sound even close to this. These are what I have bought and sound exactly like this. 2 x 14 TB WD easystore drives 4 x 16 TB WD easystore drives. They do not make that noise during read or writes of sequential data. But any random seeks sound like what you hear in the video.

Yep. I have this 14TB HDD attached to my Mac mini server. Loud af. Was worried at first but seems to r/w as it should. Hasn’t failed so far.

Based off the comments, this seems normal for large drives which is fantastic. I have one myself and it can get quite loud.

I believe this is way normal nowadays because there are more platters which means more heads. More heads = more mass to move which makes the motors much louder.

I was asking myself the same question. I have bought a Seagate 16tb hdd and it makes the same sounds when it starts up

I recently bought a Seagate Expansion 14TB hard drive, and it produces identical loud noises. Guess this is normal for Seagate, but it's really annoying. When you copy the data it's ok, but when you try - for instance - to play a movie or music, it gets loud as hell.

Lmao thats it? Judging by the comments i thought it was gonna sound like a jet taking off. Its actually incredibly quiet for an enterprise drive.

All Seagate drives sound like they are broken. Very sharp clicking even in idle

Most of these Seagate drives will contain a 2x14 Exos with MACH.2 technology. The loud drive noise is typical.

Absolutely normal.. these are Seagate Exos (enterprise LINE) disks.. they work like this

I think this is normal. I remember, you have a big external hard drive. These things use a lot of power. And HDDs make more noise than SSDs

@@Hector_quinteros they actually do make noise, but it is so quiet and inaudible, you won’t notice. So actually, you are wrong. SSD’s do make noise. (Y’all stupid asf lmao 😂)

the exos 14 tb drive uses two actuators instead of just one , so its normal

I too hear this from my large drives. Had a couple years for some and they haven't failed. Think it's normal

Totally normal, once you get above about 8-10tb capacity every drive is an enterprise drive where performance is a priority and noise characteristics takes a back seat.

Yes it is absolutly normal !!! but please remember about very good cooling but those HDD become hot while long time working.

That's normal, the surface you put it on may amplify the sound though, try put a book or something under it see if it changes.

This is very normal. External drives with amount of memory are gonna sound like that. I have 16TB Seagate Expansion external hard drive. It does the same things. Yet, I will encourage you not to leave that external drive plugged up like it's appliances or some thing because it is not. It will decrease how long that drive last over time. If you're not currently using the drive. Properly disconnect it from that computer and unplug it, until you're ready to use it.

I have had a 3x 10tb server for 5 years. I just added 3x 18tb and those 18tb are soooo loud I can hear them through the desk into the downstairs! And in the next room. I had to add some foam to my case to stop it from rattling. WTF?!
