Break in update video:
• Nick’s Boots Urban Log...
These are the stock configuration walnut roughout Urban Logger boots from Nick’s. These boots truly are fantastic and have amazing quality. After wearing these any off the shelf boot seems quite disappointing.
Some brief details:
Construction:
-Stitch down and Blake stitch in the front half of the boot, nails in the back half of the boot. (About 70 or so nails and 9 screws per boot.)
-Leather shank
-Celastic toe
-Fully gusseted tongue
-Casual style kiltie
-Leather counter
-Vibram V-100 lug sole
Feel:
-these are stiff boots in a good way. They provide great support and feel well balanced with the raised heel. They will absolutely protect your feet from whatever you’re standing on, whether that’s sharp rocks or uneven ground.
Quality:
-These are top notch quality. Made in the USA with USA tanned leather. All the hardware is incredibly robust and the construction is very beefy. These boots are built to take whatever you throw at them and then look good enough to wear to dinner.
Are they worth the price?
-Yes. Get the right size and you won’t be disappointed. They’re fantastic.

I have the exactly same model in 9.5D and agree with everything you said. The arch support and elevated heel felt strange at first, but these are more comfortable than any other running shoes for wearing them all day.

Thanks! The waxed flesh is awesome leather. I considered smooth and waxed but went with natural roughout because I wanted something that hardly shows marks. Although the way waxed flesh ages and becomes like roughout in some places is really cool.

Nice review! I just got my Urban Loggers in Chocolate brown in today and I love them so far! I was blown away by that arch support, I did not think it would feel so good and comfortable. I can't imagine how much better it's going to feel once the boot is broken in. Please keep us up to date with how those boots are breaking in!

Thank you! The chocolate leather is really nice as well. (I mean all the leather Nick’s uses is awesome.) I too wasn’t entirely sure how the arch would feel but I love it. And they really do feel great as they continue to break in. In the early stages of break in I found the tongue folding to be the most important part for comfort. I’ll try to remember to record another video about the break in maybe at the two month mark of having them so in a little over a month.

Nice review. Just wondering about the heel height--does this subject you to greater possibility of a twisted ankle? Wondering about how stable they are in the field vs more of a block or dogger heel. Thanks!

Update. My boots just came in and they fit wonderfully. Need to be broken in of course, but the fit is spot on. Also I don't know why (most likely accidentally) my boots came with the Red X sole. Everything else is standard non NFPA stuff, but the sole is the Red x. Odd, but not complaining.

I love boots but wud love a pair that's completely waterproof and durable but with the comfort of a trainer and grip of one as well, definitely would have to be custom to get exactly what's needed
@legotechniccreations6630
@legotechniccreations6630 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the waterproof is the trickiest part there. I think a boot made of their waxed flesh leather would be pretty darn waterproof. Of course any leather boot is going to slowly absorb water if you’re like standing in a bucket or something but for just rain and puddles I think a waxed flesh would perform really well. As far as comfort and grip go with these boots they are superb. The lug sole is super grippy and I can wear them all day in comfort.

I bought 2-pairs of this model in the thick work leather and the same boots in the video from their ready to ship. Ended up donating them to a veteran charity. Just too damned heavy. Have 8 and 10 inch Nicks and Whites that are not nearly as heavy. I still have an urban logger in British tan with a slightly lower heel. Had no issues with this pair on weight and break in. For my uses, the heavy and overbuilt (in a good way) are not needed for work or hacking around.

Just weighed them at about 3 pounds 1 ounce per boot. They feel heavy in the hand but if you’re used to wearing boots then you’ll get used to them very quickly. And I’m size 11.5B so the weight may vary a few ounces either way depending on size and leather thickness. This is the 7-8oz work leather.

Can you compare/contrast the build quality/robustness of Nicks Boots (as best you can) to the other handmade boot builders? (Whites - Viberg - Wesco & a few others)
@legotechniccreations6630
@legotechniccreations6630 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not really. I only have this pair of Nick’s and none of the other brands. From what I’ve heard though it seems like Nick’s, White’s, Frank’s, and JK boots are all incredibly similar and of the highest quality. To the point where choosing any one of them really comes to personal preference. And I don’t really know much about Wesco but I think I’ve heard they’re also very similar to the aforementioned four brands. Viberg I really don’t know. Keep searching around KZfaq though and you’ll find some comparison videos. I think Carl Murawski and wranglerstar have some good videos.

@@legotechniccreations6630 Thanks for the reply I have a few pair of Whites & Vibeg boots. & know they are built way better than most. I was just curious as the Nicks Boots "appear" (from videos) to be built just a bit more robust in many ways than the other handmade boots as don't really know I have not seen a pair of Nicks in the flesh.
@legotechniccreations6630
@legotechniccreations6630 2 жыл бұрын
@@TerryManitoba yeah I’d say robust is a good way to put it although a bit of an understatement. As an example my first comment when I put them on for the first time was that they felt like a foot shaped 2x4. I had to retie them a couple times in that first half hour to get the hooks and eyes to start coming towards each other to snug up the boots. But yeah when I first had them in my hands I was amazed at the build quality. Like the leather midsole is I think close to 1/4” thick. Feels like a piece of wood. They’re fantastic.
