I got my Pleroma just a few days ago, and I must say, it is absolutely the best pocket knife I've ever handled! After watching the videos, I knew I was going to like it. I waited impatiently for it to arrive in the mail. I opened the box (even though I was in the company of one who disapproves of my collecting) and WOW! I was not disappointed! Of course I was first attracted to this knife by its unusual form, more complicated than typical scales yet also possessing great simplicity. It's not common for knives to have so many perfectly fair, curved lines! This knife is beautiful. When Nick took it apart I was even more amazed... the engineering is interesting (I would call it advanced) and the machining is intricate. Tolerances must be about zero... The fit and finish are virtually (or actually) perfect, and the action is outstanding, smooth as silk and easy to open. in fact, this is the knife I just learned to flick the blade out with the thumb studs! And speaking of thumb studs, I love the way those studs are "suspended in air" in the very nicely shaped window in the blade... the list goes on. It fits my hand perfectly, four fingers. I'm glad Isham chose WE to make these. This design DESERVES perfect execution, which WE has achieved. The only downside to this knife must be that it is almost too nice to EDC, as it is bound to get beat up along the way, but then, it's a tool, is it not? Yes, but it's also an art object. I might have to get one to carry, and another one for my cabinet...

It has apparently just been discontinued, and given that they have basically disappeared from the market, when I saw one FS, I immediately bought it. Now I have 2, one to use and one to keep. This knife is BRILLIANT.

When handling mine, I often find myself holding it between my thumb and forefingers, like a scalpel... Everything about this knife is just "right." I can understand how someone might shy away because it is so different from other knives. What needs to be understood is that it is actually better.

I recently bought the pleroma and i have something to add, there is no actual jimping, despite this the handle feels very secure and my thumb rests on the makers mark and name on the back of the handle, this surprisingly adds a bit of texture which also secures it in my hand.

Very interesting knife... Not exactly my cup of tea but I do appreciate the complexity and uniqueness of its design... Price is just fine... Lot of intricate machining here with high quality materials so I think that justifies the price... Just look at the Chris Reeve Small Sebenza 21 which will cost you about $375 and goes up from there... Now THAT knife needs a serious price drop for what you get...

Isn't the cut out in the blade collecting a lot of rubbish when you are cutting through something with the entire blade i. e cheese from yesterday or the day before? Love the design and the fit and finish but I don't like the price as on the right side of the pond we have to shell out around 350€ + shipping and that's just plain ugly. You can find it cheaper on some sites from Finland or France, but then you will have to be on the waiting list and they usually get only a few examples as 80% of the production end up in the US. That figure is quoted from a We Knife importer and seller here in Europe. So if you get a 1000 knives, we get 200 for the whole of Europe. Which I suppose makes sense from a business perspective, as the US is the biggest market for We and other brands. That's for me the ugly, not the knife, but the lack of availability in Europe.
@angryguineapig4323
@angryguineapig4323 5 жыл бұрын
You need to add taxes on the list prices of knives in the USA. Its weird you have problems with the availability in your country i live in a small country the Netherlands and you can buy them here no problem price is 326 no shipping cost. Here its the USA Brands that are way overpriced if you compared them to knives made in the rest of the world.
@HikikomoriZone
@HikikomoriZone 5 жыл бұрын
Frank Andre Holmestrand I'm in Asia, and we don't have much availability of knives here either. I buy 99% of my knives from US retailers and have them ship it over to me, either directly or through a forwarding service. I'm sure you could do that as well, instead of buying from European distributors.
@DrFrankLondon
@DrFrankLondon 5 жыл бұрын
@@angryguineapig4323 when Messenzo I think it was, had We Knives, I could usually get hold of them for an okay price. But for my 702B integral I had to shell out 360€ and then he threw in the shipping almost for free. But now, according to several dealers around Europe, they do not get the number of knives they have the demand for. And that's ugly. I was on the waiting list for the Escathon, one of the first in line, but still no-one was able to actually get me the knife. Importing it from the US is out of the question as Blade HQ has stopped shipping to both the UK and Spain. As I live between the two countries, I have a permit in the UK, but still not possible. I tried a courier service, with an address in the US and then they send it to their "warehouse " in Europe and then on to me, but it's making the knives even more expensive. So from my POV they should provide dealers in Europe with a bigger slice of the pie as there are a lot of knife lovers and collector's over here as well.
@angryguineapig4323
@angryguineapig4323 5 жыл бұрын
@@DrFrankLondon 360€ sounds like a fair price its 300$ on blade central with a msrp of $348 don't forget they still need to pay taxes above the listed price. @HikikomoriZone
@HikikomoriZone 5 жыл бұрын
Ondal1 size of the knife has little to nothing to do with price. The machining, finishing, grinding, etc is where 95% of the cost goes. In fact, as the guys from Ferrum Forge say, a small knife can be more difficult and expensive to make because it is difficult to work with smaller parts (eg: grinding a short and small blade). You can get a $30 15" fixed blade, and you can also get $3000 custom folder with a 2.5" blade. The size isn't a significant factor in the cost; it's the work that goes into it that matters.

M390 is 3rd gen CPM which I think is more super than a pocket knife requires tbh. It is akin to having a pocket knife made of actual main battle tank armor. Is there a reason for this beyond a bullet point to plump up the paragraph of features to justify the fact that it is priced 10 to 100 times the material cost (Chinese made so since that means slave and convict labor those costs are negligible).

I try to buy goods manufactured in my own country, by companies that are from there. If I can't find such a thing I buy from anywhere but China. Whoever designed that trinket obviously hasn't used a knife. The angle of the blade reminds me Of a lockback with a broken backspring. It looks flimsy & just by looking at the video I can tell it would be very akward to handle. Let's be serious, who in the hell would use that stupid looking, dirt gathering piece of fluff. Put it on a chain & wear it. 😵

P. S. Imagine being at a hunting camp & pulling out that dainty little joke & trying to skin a deer with it in front of the fellas. 😁😁😁😁😁😂😂😂🤔😂😂😂😂😱

Do you hunt deer with a .22? Then why would you think ANYONE would use a 2.6 Oz pocket knife to skin a deer? Do you always get angry that people make, buy and use gear that suits THEIR purpose better than yours? This is a particularly good, indeed beautiful design for a pocket knife. Why complain that it would make a poor skinner?
