It's usually the player who wants vengence on someone who killed a loved one. Damn this game makes you feel bad.

I think Adam and Eve were designed as the personification of the logical mind and the emotional mind. Adam only cared about logic, knowledge and rationallity. His lack of seeing the emotional consequences of his actions caused him to be reckless and die for the sake of knowledge. Eve however never seemed interested in knowledge and logic. He just wanted to be happy and be with Adam. Due to adam's death Eve's emotions went out of control, which made Eve willing to kill all of the world including himself. Adam died because he only had logic lacked emotion, Eve died because he only had emotion and lacked logic. The message of this story, it is important to balance logic and emotion. Because too much and too little of either will be bad for yourself and the world.

Had to re-load a save. I barely died the first time and then lost all my health items. The game re-loaded at the last phase of the boss, but my health items were still gone. Worse still, you lose all your plug-ins as well. That checkpoint system was designed very poorly. Each time you die, you're left with less tools. Why not just load before the boss? Or at least restore the health items that weren't used at that point during the fight.

I can’t remember the last time I felt genuinely intimidated by a boss. Yeah, I pitied him to an extent, but mostly, I was just scared of him. The screaming, snarling, laughing, the way he says, “EVERYTHING MUST DIE!” Hell, look at his appearance at 7:54. *shudder*

This game is excellent, absolutely a future classic. 9/10 from me! I was completely absorbed in it. The ending just came all of a sudden for me. When the credits started rolling, I felt sad and empty. Sad because the ending really got under the skin. Empty because I wanted, even expected, the journey to continue. But then again, I spent dozens of hours without even realizing it. So I couldn't blame the game for the fun not lasting forever. Couldn't wait what the other routes has to offer. Here is my review: The game is very nicely stylized from the artwork to the music. Frankly, soundtrack is one of the best I have heard, there's not much more to say. Regarding the artwork, post apocalyptic environments looks astonishing at it's best, and there is nice amount of variety in the milieu. You can not enter buildings and there are invisible walls, but the playable area is compelling enough. I hoped many locations had a bit more little details thought. Character design is cool and I give big pros for the "naive" robot design, which actually gives the appealing, cohesive, iconic essence to the design work. In all it's modesty it gives the "soul" to the robots and somehow fits the narrative just perfectly. Theme, narrative and characters are all interesting with some fundamental philosophy and sense of mystery behind them. Even thought the setting is interesting, the plot is unfortunately somewhat short and cursory overview over the vast philosophy behind the setting. By it's premises it had potential to offer a lot more depth in the form of narrative and hidden clues. Especially I hoped there were more to Adam and Eve, destruction of the creators and the evolution of the machine lifeform. Nevertheless, I was on the edge all time till the ending. Maybe more answers awaits in different routes... Combat at normal difficulty is fun and accurate, even more so after remapping the controls (I used DS layout). It is cross breed of Souls type combat and hack 'n slash with varying flavors, like arcade style phases (+++). Evade system is at the core of the mechanics. Spamming it makes you basically untouchable. Up to the player, if to spam it or not ;) Attacks are always fun to execute, as the animations and effects are smooth and beautiful. Some goliaths put me on toes even when evading all the time. The game is not easy, but not DS hard either. I only hoped it was possible to switch the lock-on target with the stick, as many times I accidentally locked on wrong target. But still, it's a minor flaw in this otherwise solid combat. Plugins chips and pod programs add nice flavor to game mechanics, even thought I managed to beat the game with most of the available chips never used. But for each their own. Regarding weapons, there are different categories, all of which has the same move set. More unique move sets to the weapons would have added even more depth to the game mechanics, but these are minor flaws.

Ray Chase's performance as Eve may have been the reason he was chosen to play post timeskip Nier in the remaster of the first game.

i feel like dependant weakling should’ve been played in the final battle of route c/d. both 9s and a2 share similiarities with adam and eve. 9s and eve lose their sanity after losing a loved one. a2 and adam remain calm and use logic to handle disputes.

2b protecting 9S while he was hacking Eve reminded me of the end of Dragon Ball Z. Vegeta receiving a beating from Buu while Goku was charging his attack.

I’m in a state where I have no heal been fighting Eve for over 100 times now and realize that without heals he’s unbeatable when it comes to the final phase

If you get stuck on this fight because u have no heals you can buy some from the guy at the desert
