Netflix has a documentary on her called, "What Happened Miss Simone." I didn't really know much about her other than seeing some album covers that my mother had of her when I was growing up. Her story is somewhat sad. Makes me appreciate her and what she went through. I came here to find this video. There's a clip of it in the film. I got tickled when I saw it because she is really feeling the music...so much so that it makes you feel it along with her.

Hmmmmm...I notice a few "down-votes." While I'm not someone who typically takes notice of that, I must say, I question the soul and inner-vision of anyone who actually watches this and down-votes it. In fact, I'd assume they were deficient of both. There is something uniquely powerful in this performance...her deep breathe at 1:09 was a great precursor to her letting herself go, giving herself over to the rhythm, emotion, and meaning of the song. Such a raw performance. Reminds me of a few performances of similar emotion that I've seen from Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder. All true artists. Respect to them all.

+Sue L. Thank you Sue. I was wondering who recognized that. This was more than letting herself go. After she quoted scripture, "be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" her facial expression changed because of the revelation of what she was saying hit her like a ton of bricks!!! God's presence was heavy on her that's why she got up from playing and surrendered. the WORDS she was singing was HEAVY as BRICKS! it was more than raw emotions, This was a spiritual revelation!!!

so what we see here is her undeniable spirit and also the manic high that expresses itself in the very talented. its a gift from god , BUT IT COMES WITH A PRICE! ive been a devoted fan for decades. this is one tough woman. peeled from her minister parents at the age of 3 by two WHITE women, showing great promise as concert pianist. she was full of spirit and faith and a great desire to retrieve from society what these two women stole from her. her culture, her heritage. but her shows of rage and anger towards white people denied her publicity, the media stone cold fearful of an on air interview, etc. God bless her, she was assigned body guards only to protect her fan base from assault. most everyone was clueless back then and now discourage the fact that she was BI-POLAR! I LOVE HER, I wish she were here to put a face on this condition. she is the most talented and hard to believe all this beauty packed into one person.
