Who? Who, pray tell? Who is asking to play this movie tie-in? Like, who even watches Quest for Camelot? And on what medium, DVD? If access to every one of these games is meant to be some sort of incentivized pull to get people to subscribe, this single game in the GAMEBOY library serves no incentive for anyone, child or adult, to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online.

Adds nothing to those with access to Japanese NSO which is fairly easy to obtain. The minimum Nintendo could have done was to actually translate these games, would had been the best opportunity to do so to further sell the NSO pitch. Adding these straight Japanese rom dumps to international NSO just creates confusion to young and older demographic with the language barrier.

I played Quest For Camelot back in the day. (It's based on the animated film of the same name.) It's a pretty good Legend of Zelda style game.

There is actually a Western release of Kirby's Star Tracker for the gameboy. Of course it doesn't look as pretty as the SNES version with better sounds and graphics, and full color 😁

@@LetsPlayNintendoITASuper Star Stacker (as the fans have called it) has a story mode, but you can _probably_ get the gist of it from the pictures? It’d be nice if Super Star Stacker got an English translation, but I can’t say it’s SUPER necessary beyond menu navigation.

@@e-122psi3 Considering the west got the original Gameboy version, no, I highly doubt that’s why. The more likely reason is that the game came out in Japan in 1998, two years after the launch of the N64. The SNES was discontinued in North America (and I assume PAL territories) the year prior, so localization plans were scrapped. It’s the same reason why Dream Land 3 was the last Nintendo published SNES game in North America, and why it didn’t hit PAL regions until _2009_ via the Wii Virtual Console.

A better way to preserve these games is to sell them digitally in the Nintendo Eshop, like the Wii, 3ds and the Wii U. The virtual console was huge for game preservation.

I’m surprised they put Quest for Camelot as part of the online service. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is the first movie licensed game they added here, probably because the gameplay is heavily inspired by 2D Zelda. Edit: Never mind. Goldeneye also exist as part of the service.

It was easy, since that film was a box office disaster when it came out (Titanic was still king), and Nintendo did publish two games based on other WB properties, such as LEGO (developed by WB's TT Games unit) and DC (DC Superhero Girls). Might be a part of a package deal with WB to have the Arkham Trilogy and MK1 on Switch. Also, QFC was a launch title for the GBC.

Only if we get its SNES sequel Equinox too. I played through both on emulator just in this past month after having the Solstice cartridge for NES growing up. Brilliant games, the both of them... but goddamn though, they are _brutal,_ especially Equinox.

TBF, Kirby Star Stacker SNES was never released in the US, same with Joy-Mech Fight. QfC was a GBC launch title, and it's a rare time that a movie-licensed game is out on NSO, because Nintendo published it after Titus developed it. Also, Nintendo published a LEGO game and a DC game under license from WB.

Someone at NOA must like "Quest for Camelot" as a kid. A very unexpected and obscure choice, but regardless nice to see another licensed game, and a few Japanese ones. Including Kirby and the cult classic "Joy Mech Fight" which is an impressive 8-bit fighting game. (Paralax backgrounds, no sprite flicker, or slowdown.)

This is fantastic! I really hope more classic games that were never released outside Japan (or even just not released here in NA) are added. There are _A LOT_ I'd love to see! Also, it'd require more effort, but it'd be greatly appreciated if classic Japan-only games were given an official (if not belated) English translation. Especially as an alternate version for NA players to enjoy. That'd be amazing. 🤞

You know, if you make a second account and set its region to Japan, you could have downloaded the JP version of the NSO apps and have been playing Joy Mech Fight for years already. This update is annoying because it doesn't actually add any new games that weren't available already, with the exception of Camelot, which has me intrigued.

@@EikeKusch776 changing to a Japanese account is useless unless YOU CAN READ JAPANESE. It's not in bloody English and NOT EVERYONE wants to learn Japanese. Also it DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. A sh*tload of Japan only games are not on the online FOR STUPID REASONS.

@flatcapman I don't know Japanese either, yet I can navigate the Japanese eshop with no effort at all. Use the English eshop as reference and remember the inputs you made with the English eshop. It's as simple as. You brought a good point however, Nintendo really should have bothered to translate these bloody games since they brought Japanese roms to the English app. It only makes sense, with a high subscriber count funding the service, why the heck not??

Quest For Camelot is a real left field addition, I also didn't even know Nintendo published it back in 1998. Haven't seen the movie it's based on since I was like 8 or 9, all I can really remember about it was it had a female lead, a blind dude as the secondary lead, and a two headed dragon. I also weirdly remember when I went to Six Flags back in 1998 the TVs on all the ride queues kept playing ads for the movie. Kirby Star Stacker is a real nice one to see, it's one of the only Kirby spinoffs I've actually never played.

I had literally never heard of the movie Quest for Camelot, looked it up and they had big name actors at the time like Pierce Brosnan, Cary Elwes and Gary Oldman doing voice work for it. It was a Huge flop apparently, so no wonder it’s fringe now.

@@DaGhostToastRoast I don't think Star Wars games are allowed but I could be proven wrong, Smash 64 to me doesn't feel near coming since that game you only choose between 12 characters and ultimate is taking over as you can select between 89 people, all released DLC Fighters increased it to 89. Not wanting to pull people out of ultimate, but I wouldn't always believe everything I say. I make the wildest guesses

There's no reason why Kirby Star Stacker and Umihara Kawase aren't on the US versions to begin with since very little Japanese is required, let alone the fire emblem game they already translated and charged full price and only had on the shop for a limited time. There are like 4 FE games that are free on the Japanese virtual consoles.

That's pretty neat! I hope some more Japan-only titles come to the service at some point, but just as-is this is a very nice selection. Kirby's Star Stacker on SNES coming to the West finally is particularly exciting, I think that's the only Kirby title to date (other than Kirby's Toy Box I guess) to never release outside of Japan, so it's very neat to see.

I think they'll only do Japanese games they don't have to translate text for. Any idiot can figure out how to play Joy Mech Fight without translating it but if you try to do, like, Fire Emblem 4 or Shin Megami Tensei 2 you're gonna be in an impossible situation if it's still in Japanese.

They released on Japanese NSO, i think they could do 1 with little difficulty since they already have an official translation for iOS based on the GBA version, they just have to import the script and make whatever adjustments they need to for the SFC code, SMT 2 and IF are another story though@@maverickhuntermeta4954
