I owned an old land rover defender 90 before i had my Navara, and i spent a lot of time welding it back together with 3mm plate getting burns. first thing i did when i got my navara was take it to a steam cleaner locally who does vans and lorries. Then i used Dinitrol treat inside the chassis rails and outside. Do it every couple of years. The steel isnt gonna last forever even if you keep on top of its but it will last a hell of a lot longer, im surprised people think that a truck with such an open chassis exposed to the elements in england is gonna be fine without treating it as a serviceable part. Also don't think that an MOT tester is gonna pick up internal corrosion because i've seen land rovers where people have put filler into chassis holes, painted them black and they've got through an MOT even when the holes are near seatbelt mounting points. solve 2 problems at once and redirect the crankcase vent into each chassis rail. no more blocked intakes and nice hot oil mist blowing through the chassis!!

Thanks for the video. Am picking up a 2015 Navara today - I couldn't see any issues with the chassis when I looked but I'm no expert so making some enquiries with local companies to get the chassis treated asap.

Any rail chassis vehicle I've had I always used to spray a mix of old engine oil and diesel in all the holes ...keeps rust at bay..better than anything else

I think the quality of paint on the chassys just simply something "water based" cheap, rubbish thing. We have a tyre fitter garage, (Hungary, Europe) and I always can see these Navaras have less paint on their chassys than Patrols from '90s. I love Nissan, I had 3.3 Td K160, I had Y61, I wanted to buy a Navara, but the France engine, sick diesel system and damaging chassys scared me.

This is a problem that is going to haunt Nissan, especially as there are now a number of legal cases being pursued against then. My 2011 Pathfinder had 50K on the clock when I bought it, but the first thing I did was to have the chassis treated with Dinitrol rust treatment and then had the whole chassis Dinitrol'd inside and out... Alternatively you could get your chassis Waxoyl'd... Different products have different pros and cons.

That’s where Nissan saves money. I had a 2001 Maxima that started rusting right above the rear tires as there was no protection from the water/rocks and sand blasting.

my d22 -01 hade a crack in the frame at the same place. welded 1,5mm Steel around all frame from backwindow to the trailer hitch. that will never brake ;)

I have two things to say about this if I am paying Nissan or any other truck maker 20k for a new pickup truck should I not expect that the chassis would be painted with rust proofing inside before I get it or am I expecting to much for my 20k. I also tend to think a lot of the problem is down to boxed in chassis the old american pickups had channel chassis that you could wash the dirt off both sides boxed in chassis hold the mud in place and makes the chassis rust look on youtube at old american trucks and the frames on most of them are rust free.

It's a sad day for Nissan. I had a 1989 pickup and a 1995 4×4. Both went more than 250,000 miles with no problems other than wear and tear. So far so good with my 2011 sentra. I'll trade it off this summer for a Toyota before the jatco six falls out like all the others. Sucks cause they were good back then. Fiat made Chrysler suck, Renault is killing nissan much the same way. Damn shame. Go Toyota!

i brought 2005 D22 4wd last week, i checked the chassis and they are good at the moment except some soil stuck in the chassy. Is this a factory fault ? i have seen lots of D40s with the crack issue and does this issue exists in D22s as well. Mine is built in Japan, kindly advise. Thank you. I am from Sri Lanka

hi i have a problem on my nissan pathfinder 2.5 is overheating when towing i replace the water pump thermostat coolant and the fan clutch, i remove the top of the radiator and clean inside but still overheating in towing, in normal drive is ok i can drive 250km and no overheating, only in uphill or towing aditional not bubbles in the radiator or something With the head
