I mean, all moves after the challenge was activated were fast forwarded over (except the first one) so it could’ve been a bit more satisfying!

@@DJFracus i mean, i guess? but i've learned that the knight move in an L shape, only much later in life i've heard it moving like a rook for 1 square then like a bishop for 1 more square, so to me that is completely valid

@@oussama7132I wouldn't be surprised if it increases further after this video, since giving a reveal condition now guarantees Simp will at least try to make sure the reveal happens, likely nerfing himself instead of trying to find a loophole to get around a fully revealed challenge

I’d say that the knight is teleporting and therefor it is not moving. At least in the 3rd dimension.

Knights only "move" in Chinese Chess where they get blocked by pieces on the first space in the 2-space direction. Knights teleporting in chess is canon.

Both are valid but the most valid is teleportation to "one of the squares nearest to that on which it stands but not on the same rank, file or diagonal."

My favorite one is "Knight moves in such a way, that the sum of file difference absolute value and rank difference absolute value is equal to 3 and none of those two changes are equal to 0". That's the fancy way of saying that knight changes either one rank and two files or two ranks and one file :D

Nice challenge, but I think officially the Knights Move 1 straight and 1 diagonal, in any order and above pieces, thats why in 5D Chess, they can move 2 spaces down and then switch the timeline. And its also the reason why normal Chess is actually 3D

If the Knight moves in straight lines, then every challenge where you claimed the Knight moved √5 squares instead of 3 is invalid.

Even when moving 2 straight lines, the distance from the starting point is the same. Doesn't matter how you get there, doesn't change the distance formula.

you're wrong on a technical level: horseys don't move straight twice (obviously, as they don't get blocked) nor do they move diagonally. they warp boardtime and thusly portal through to the target square.

Do you recommend people attempt challenges like these too? Will that help a lower-rated chess player develop, or is it useless without deeper understanding of the game/how to see ahead 3+ moves?

What a easy challenge. Like you've lost your bishops anyway so the queen becomes a still very powerful rook and your king is slightly less mobile, big deal.

Simp for once actually interpreted the challenge in a reasonable way what they said is if he promotes a pawn to a bishop then his pieces can move diagonally not that he had to promote a pawn to a bishop.

The challenge makes no indication that it demands he gets a new bishop before winning. If anything that line about getting a “new diagonal teacher” is only there to provide him a coward’s way out, an easy way to get the diagonal moves back. He didn’t need it. He’s not a coward.

Not really, diagonal is SPECIFICALLY along the corners of a square. The horse actually jumps from position to its destination, so it never does a corner move, so its not a diagonal movement.
