There have been so many reports about Erik ten Hag's future as Man United manager. Will Jim Ratcliffe & INEOS want him to stay on or replace him?
But hardly anybody is talking about a very important question when it comes to the future of Ten Hag and it's one I'll discuss in this video:
Will Ten Hag be willing to give up power to work in a new structure at United?
Let me explain why this question is important and show you what Ten Hag has said previously that he will need to change his stance on to remain as manager in a new look United setup under Ratcliffe.

Do you think Erik ten Hag will be willing and happy to work in a new structure at Manchester United, more like the one had at Ajax? It's absolutely the right thing for United to do and for some reason there's not much discussion about this question when it comes to Ten Hag's future at the club.

i honestly do not think so. i think for his own good he should go he will always feel uncomfortable anyways knwing that deep down the new structure wants his own shiny new toy. if he stays another year he will be playing survival football instead of implementing a sustainable style of play

I think he would work under the incoming new structure. I imagine he only insisted on the transfer veto when came in because he could see that no cohesive structure existed at that time. If we get a more coherent structure working with the manager I can see it working well. Man Utd too big to be a one man show

Given the state of Man Utd when he joined it makes sense that he would want more control, even based on what we could see as fans, and he would have had more insight than us. If he believes in the direction that INEOS are going and the people that will be a part of the new structure then why wouldn't he continue in a lesser role as a head coach?

As a life long Ajax supporter, and someone who's been following Man United closely since you got Ten Hag. I think you're looking at it in a wrong way. Hes not a scout, nor a Sporting director. Most of the Ajax transfers that were "his" transfers weren't amazing, like Labyad or Klaiber. But he was really close with Overmars, our sporting director at the time, they were talking almost daily about the squad, what (kind of) players needed to be sold or needed to be brought in and he had a massive say in that proces. However it was not his responsibility. Hes a total control freak, he wants to have complete knowledge of whats going on at the club at pretty much all levels. But when he trusts the people in charge of those other departments hes completely fine with them making important decisions. Pretty much all staff/directors, etc who've worked with him, speak very highly on him. He doesnt want power over everything. He just wants to make sure its done correctly and wants a say in it. If he thinks Ashworth and INEOS are great, then I doubt he'll care about them taking away some of his power. He cares about winning, not power.

It's perfectly fine. I agree with you that he can then focus on managing the boys to make sure they achieve what is expected of them by the management and fans. He has a good playing style and needs better players. The management can take care of recruitment and even sometimes insist on specific players being bought, but then it is their job to let those players know that they will have to adapt to the system and cannot play as individuals. No player can be above the system. The rest Ten Hag should not even want to bother with.

Maybe he set requirements because Joel Glazer was playing football manager at the top of the chain? Saying that I do think signings should be based on player profiles and not be anyone in ETH’s phone book or most expensive available signings. I think he won't have any issues working with a structure, especially dealing with player issues, those things can be outsourced to Dan Ashworth and others. ETH can instead focus on squad building and training young players or evening scouting and guiding young Academy players if he wants.

I think ETH will be happy to delegate recruitment/scouting/academy-promotion providing he has a say (ie can veto) any player recommendations that he does not want. I find it impossible to understand how a first team coach/manager can select/develop a squad in any unbiased way if there are players in that squad that he does not want. But this would be a prerequisite IMO for a first team coach at any club, not just Man Utd.

Sam I usually agree with most of what you say, but at 1:50 you say the Fergie model will not work in modern football. I've thought about it a lot this season and came to a conclusion that even though the model itself might not work for other clubs, but that United might be the only club where the Fergie model does and SHOULD be the way forward. This fanbase is too large, with so many opinions and unparalleled pressure, it takes the absolute best of the best to stay on their feet and run the club. Of course you need people in the background, but 1 thing that made United magical as well is seeing top managers develop themselves at a club like this. The pressure is absolutely unreal, so seeing the way 1 authoritarian man runs the whole operation had something great about it. It might seem like a good idea today, but I do think later down the line we'll really miss it. I always believed we are the only club that should be ran differently than any other club in the world, because we're not like them.

I believe it will be fine, so long as they all get on & trust each other. Also, EtH Never said he did not want to meet Ragnick!!! It was Murtough stopped speaking to Ragnick from Feb onwards - the Glazers & board fell out with him & did not want him to cloud EtH's mind before he judged the players for himself. There were videos like this one with title "Will Ten Hag accept Man United job, without Sporting Director set up?" before he signed with the club. He worked the best in that kind of set up with VDS taking care of the club and Overmars of transfers. Of course as a menager you have a vote, suggestion or veto when signing players. I don't think he would be happy for Glazers to sign players without his say. But this is different. Also, Ragnick hasn't left because of EtH, he was the one suggesting him for the job. Ragnick left because of job at Austria national team, and because he pissed off Glazers and few players with his press conferences.

I always took control over transfers to mean the club don’t refuse to sell a player he wants out, and don’t buy players he doesn’t want. Because that’s what happened to previous United managers before him. He’d been warned about it by the likes of van gaal and wouldn’t take the job under such conditions. He’s a modern European manager, so will want an ajax type structure. But any such structure has cooperation and agreement with the manager on players in and out. They aren’t dictated. The media are painting the narrative the manager will have no say under ratcliffe, which would be a terrible structure. I can’t believe that’s what ratcliffe actually wants, and it’s not what ashworth has done at any club he’s been at. All that statement says is ratcliffe wants the manager to focus on managing and coaching the first team department only, and as such will surely involve influence over the players within that department. It will be the ajax/Liverpool/city model, with cooperation and agreement between manager and sporting director. This is just the media tryout to create a black and white sense of conflict for narrative purposes, as they always do because that drives engagement and emotion.

I really don't understand why people believe that having such things as sporting directors and CEO's in charge of recruitment is gonna work any better than having the sitting manager doing the job. There have been numerous cases abroad where this kind of arrangement has failed with one "side" blaming the other when it goes wrong. And how likely is it that all will agree on who comes in and which players leave? Yes,it might work on occasions but for everyone concerned to dovetail and agree seems to me to be far more unlikely then likely to happen. The manager HAS to be the guy in overall command and if he isn't then trouble will surely follow. Whether this manager is the right guy to take the club forwards is another matter entirely but throwing the baby out with the bathwater does not seem to me to be the right way forwards.

I don't see no reason why Ten Hag wouldn't give up his power & work under a proper footballing structure that'll use their expertise in recruiting players. He worked well at Ajax under the same kinda structure & with United getting their house in order I think Ten Hag will work wonders. I think the why reason why Ten Hag had so much power to begin with is cause he didn't trust those that were running the club which is understandable. If Berrada and Ashworth have proper sit-downs with ETH and share their opinions based on real data, proper scouting methods and a playing style and path that ETH can meet them halfway with/agrees with, then I don't see a problem. The remarks by Ratcliffe may have been taken way out of context. I would think communication and proper dialogue are being had every single day between all parties. ETH can thrive with the proper structure around him like you've said many times in previous videos before. I think that's being built around him.

the thing is, certain fans and media will continue to demand immediate results even though it will take seasons to see real change under the new structure, regardless of who is the manager

EtH is not a man of absolutes. His previous interviews on the issue are quite clear. He is able and willing to work in such a set up. Should INEOS think differently, that would be the biggest error in judgement from their side. Quite clearly in my view, EtH is the single best thing that has happened to Man Utd in the last decade. Give him the support and he will deliver.

I think Ten Hag will be willing to give up some power. You have to remember that Ten Hag put in those terms to give himself the best chance of succeeding under the Glazers. Now we have a better structure and competent guys making decisions where Ten Hag should be able to have more faith in the people around him.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he just wanted the control initially when he came to the club because he knew how United used to operate, making marquee signings to boost stock, sales, etc. But I don't think ETH would have any problems operating in a proper structure. I mean, if there is a disagreement about whether a player is suitable or not then it probably means that everybody doesn't have their ducks in a row, or someone involved in the process is clueless; but with intelligent and knowledgeable people in place I don't think there would be very many disagreements, and if there are any then they would be minor. For example if we were signing Sancho this summer, and we know what we know now, then I couldn't see Berrada, Ashworth and ETH disagreeing about him, because he might be a good player but they'd all be smart enough to know how much trouble he was going to be. And the same if it was Ronaldo. But when you have a clueless banker in charge he's going to overrule the manager, because he would be looking at the business side of it. But thankfully those days seem to be gone.

He'll be fine with it as long as he's smart enough(which i know he is) to realise that even Pep Guardiola wouldn't have succeeded at Barca nor at City if he had to do everything like SAF.

Ineos would be in breach of Ten Hag's contract, before he agreed to join the club, he wanted certain control of some areas of his football operation and if they push ahead with this and he resigns, that is constructive dismissal.

I don't agree that this would be a reduced roll at Man U but rather a more football focused roll. ETH must surely realise that the authority he had has not worked. I think he'll stay.

Surely what you are talking about has already been resolved behind the scenes. Ten Haag knows what Ineos are about, and Ineos will be fully aware of Ten Haag's original statement when he arrived. If Ten Haag's aim is to stubbornly stick to his guns, then he'd be gone already. Utd can't be messing about. A lot of big clubs are in for new managers this summer. Utd would be aggressively hunting for a new manager now if Ten Haag wasn't for adapting to the Ineos way. As far as I'm aware utd aren't aggressively looking for a replacement, which tells you a lot about Ten Haag's future.

The example from Holland doesn't hold true here as Erik is not a British citizen. United are sponsoring his work visa, he is employed here and is in the country due to this reason. He needs to agree otherwise they will certainly get their man in. The UK is facing record unemployment, surely hiring a local isn't illogical.

What is this 400 million nonsense. Hojlund, Martinez clearly good transfers. Casemiro was bought as panick buy after chasing De jong whole summer. Antony should have been bought at lower price still a flop. Mount cannot pass any judgement as he is been injured most of the season. It's an absolute fact that our management and recruitment is trash. If enik Ten hag had to buy players which turned out to be flop it's on the management. So many injuries, we play Johnny evans at the back with lindelof at Lb. Liverpool with such good structure still struggled when they faced injuries in the last few seasons. Look at spurs, people were hailing Ange, now the honeymoon period is almost over. Ten hag played better football with Ajax against European gaints in UCL, you guys really think he is incompetent.
