We took a trip to North Wilkesboro Speedway. We decided to shoot a little footage of the place. This is what we came up with.....

Saw you on the documentary Abandoned which is why I came on your site and are such a passionate person who really cares about Nascar from it's roots which for some reason took it to higher levels that's causing other tracks in the south to close. I sincerely hope they one day re-opened this and folks like Chuck gets a lifetime pass to attend these races.

I'm a fan of Nascar and live in Southern California. Heck the old Riverside Raceway is only ten minutes away from my home. I don't have a problem with Fontana. There are other tracks on the schedule that are much more dull. I'd like to see old tracks make a comeback but Nascar won't budge. Maybe they need to transition the lower level series to come to the old tracks first. I'd wanna see Rockingham come back to Cup Racing

I know how you fill man. I'm a huge NASCAR fan. I was born 2 years after the last race here. but, I saw the old races from here and they were amazing. Dale and Jeff had great fights, on the track, to win the race. How about we all go to NASCAR and ask them to go back to North Wilksboro, Hickory, and Rockingham. North Carolina lost 3 of its 4 tracks. Now we only go to Charlotte. Don't get me wrong I love Charlotte, but NASCAR left 3 famous track. I want this all those tracks back.

I want to watch racing where one guy gets passed and he passes the guy right back. The only places that can happen are Rockingham, Bristol and North Wilkesboro. I have been to two Darlington races and they were fun but the racing was the most sorriest racing you will sever see, no battleing for every position but single file parades.

I love your enthusiasm, and I would love to see racing return to North Wilkesboro, but here's the problem and I've argued this point many times, as have other people, with Dave Moody. North Wilkesboro is located in the most saturated racing market in the world. Atlanta, Bristol, Charlotte, Darlington, Daytona, Kentucky, Martinsville, Richmond and Talladega are all in the same market as North Wilkesboro. And if the Sprint Cup Series did return, it would be in a cut throat fight to the death with Charlotte Motor Speedway and Charlotte would win.
@KK-ex5zu5 жыл бұрын
I'm from Central VA and I beg the differ. Bruton Smith owner of Bristol, Charlotte, Atlanta, Texas and so on bought the track along with the original owner of New Hampshire from the sole and deceased owners family a few months after his death and abruptly shutdown the track almost in a hostile takeover way. Bruton wanted a date for the new Texas track and the owner of New Hampshire wanted a 2nd date on the Cup schedule. Aside from that, Bruton thought shutting down Wilkesboro would boost ticket sales at Charlotte it didn't. Charlotte grew at the average pace of the average track as far as ticket sales go from the mid 90's thru the 2000's. BTW Wilkesboro was still selling out every race the last decade Cup raced there so you can't put blame on attendance! The track had a following and in its shutdown those fans just drove to Richmond and Martinsville to see a good short track race in its closing. If Bruton gained anything it was attendance at Bristol grew, not his original baby Charlotte Motor Speedway. If North Wilkesboro was back on the NASCAR circuit, they would have to rob Charlotte's fall race or steal a date from a cookie cutter track and it would be worth it! Long live old school short track racing!

As much i would like to see the cup car run more short tracks, The market in that region won't support it any more. Hate to say it getting the cup cars back there isn't going to happen. BUT that track is small enough to run a weekly show, With late models, or my favorite modifieds, with a type of 8, 6, and or 4 cylinder street stock divisions. It would also work having some lower touring series like the southern mod tour, ASA, ACARA, Hooters cup. or a Big Dollar to win open late model show. The biggest mistake smaller tracks like this made was getting away from grass root racing while the grand national that's now the cup series evolved. Should continued to have a regular racing show between cup dates. Its not hard to block off sections of seats to have less clean up after an event.

This guy is so true I don't look forward to when I'm becoming an old man and I'm 50 years old for a NASCAR to be a thing I think it'd be a did time thing of the past there won't be no more NASCAR pole keep this s*** up NASCAR needs to quit their junk and they need to go back to this track this is where NASCAR racing was born and where he should stay I would love to see a little bit of rubbing your racing and no arguing who is with me we need to tell NASCAR where they can go or they can stick it because this is what Nascar racing is all about North Winnsboro

14 mil is chump change to nascar. I'm with you Chuck....that's why I've not watched nascar races last year and none this year. I'm done with nascar. The biggest thing wrong with nascar is Brian France, Bruton Smith and others like them. Look what they did at Bristol. They kept adding grandstands until it is completely surrounded. Now there are empty seats at every track you can see on t v. Stupid ass rules is what has done it in and it's going down every week. I'm done..........

I believe it was the speedway property taxes that was getting so terrible to pay and the upkeep of the property was getting harder plus the stockcar driver's needed some time off during the holiday season, rockingham speedway was let go too,, so now a deal with the driver's and the teamhauler's that truck in the stockcar's to the speedway's was reached so that each individual can stay in north Carolina to get their bill's paid off in time and hmm open up the north Wilkesboro speedway again to support the town.. Good thing's are coming to north Wilkesboro north Carolina
@TheNuclearKid_85_018 жыл бұрын
It's the rules. Just like when Kenseth wrecked Logano at martinsville. That was the best thing I'd seen in a while! But they suspended him to defend the spoiled little boy Logano. I could go on and on for hours and I've only watched NASCAR for 9 years. It's really too bad. Just recently when Stewart won that brought back what makes up the sport: last corner contact to win the race. There will never be anything like that anymore
@penskepc23744 жыл бұрын
Yeah, because wrecking the driver that drove the more dominate race is awesome, sorry but thats exactly why fans of other motorsports think Nascar is a joke.

@aj_theshark11 жыл бұрын
Fontana has nothing to do with Hollywood. They're in two different counties and have no influence over each other. If you want to talk about Los Angeles County tracks, talk about Irwindale Speedway, the last remaining active NASCAR track in Los Angeles County. People always talk about Fontana, but they leave out the fact that NASCAR has been racing at many tracks in Southern California for decades.

I remember racetracks in Riverside and Ontario. Long gone now.
@bbodinefan118 жыл бұрын
Guy makes a lot of good points. If you think Nascar aint struggling look at Bristol. Used to be a waiting list for tickets. Last race was less than half full. I live in VA and go to Martinsville all the time. You buy tickets with a seat assignment but you can sit anywhere because of attendance. North Wilkesboro was one of the most unique short tracks in history and desperately needs to be brought back. I guarantee a sell out and if I could get off work you can bet my fat white ass would be there.

The fun police always close race tracks and whine about profits. That track can be reopened!
@xJakePrice10 жыл бұрын
Bruton Smith owns the track & he's just letting it rot. Talk about a waste of money. He would have a better business if he reopened this track. Darlington's the only racetrack with character & ISC owns it. He needs to reopen this place as early as 2016 to be realistic. Eliminating one race from texas. I love this sport.
@TuckerWhite949 жыл бұрын
***** The problem with that idea is Pocono is not under the ISC or SMI umbrella and Kansas is the best 1.5 on the schedule.
@acrock219 жыл бұрын
this is also all opinion and in the end nascar doesnt care about opinion they will do what they want to do. thats how its always been. they didnt even care when drivers had opinions and when they boycotted nascar trying to impose their will. nascar banned those drivers for life. they are not driving an old school car anymore. so what happens to that wish said in this video? nascar doesnt care. end of story. thats what nascar's spin off and lower league series are for.what nascar wants in a race track... safety, safer barriers all the way around 310 bucks per foot of wall, a smooth paved surface, and seating/parking for 100k or more people. if you cant meet these requirement just do yourself a favor and stop wishing nascar would come back to your track cause they arent... honestly i see nothing wrong with their schedule and i actually like it. its a good tour.

Why is attendence less than half of what it once was. ALL the tracks are taking out seats . It's dyin'
@arkansasdave36455 жыл бұрын
THIS IS NOT A SPORT!!!!! Why would anyone in their right mind redo this whole track and stands for millions of dollars for maybe a 1/4 of its seats to sell? Not to mention the ticket prices would be very high to recoup the restoration costs. I’m sure you nick wouldn’t be paying $50 or more for tickets would you? No, you would then bitch that ticket prices are too high. Just let this crap die out, it will all be gone soon enough.

There were 3 things that made me quit anything to do with Nascar, (1) was when they left North Wilkesboro Speedway. (2) was when Earnhardt died at Daytona. (3) was when Nascar decided to go WOKE about the Confederate flag. Each one of those drove me away and I haven't watched a race since and personally I don't care if they ever come back to NWS, I'm done with Nascar forever now. Btw I quit watching MLB in '93 after the rich players decided to strike for more money and didn't play a world series that year, and the NFL and NBA is just a bunch of rich WOKE cry babies so I don't and never will watch those again either. I've found that watching local races and sports is much better and deserve my money to support them. Look fans, we have the power to control these rich people when they do stupid things, but if we let them get by with it, we will always be at their mercy.

***** Yeah, GREAT racing. This video is well put together,... but I disagree. I don't think good racing is door slamming on a half mile bullring... I LOVE that stuff.... but that's what short track racing is for. I personally think NASCAR Is at its best right now, and have always enjoyed the racing. But I would like to see tracks like this on the circuit.

hate to disagree with you but Nascar still has ROOT races they race at martinsville twice a year still race at darlington and of course still race at daytona now if you do not call that ROOT racing then i don't know what is. The reason they left north wilksboro and rockingham is not because of sponsership reasons it is because if they kept them it would oversaturate the market having 5 tracks within a 4 hour or less drive from each other including charlotte, rockingham martinsville, darlington and north wilksboro, each one not be profitable of all of them were left open. And if they cant make a profit then they cannot race there and thats the issue.
