It’s no secret that the Islamic Republic of Iran has a complicated and, let’s call it ‘volatile,’relationship with the U. S.
But this isn’t anything new.
Despite this, President Donald Trump expressed a willingness to meet with Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, even though Trump ended up withdrawing from the Iran nuclear agreement.
BUT Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was not interested at all.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is a key player in the Middle East. And whether it’s the war in Syria and Yemen, or its nuclear deal with western powers, the Persian country always seems to be right in the center of things.
And while Iran has elected political offices like a presidency and legislative body, a lot of power belongs to one man, the country’s Supreme Leader. And his powers are far reaching.
When it comes to politics, the Supreme Leader has direct or indirect power over the executive and legislative bodies of government through un-elected councils he controls.
Essentially he is the most influential political authority and serves as the de facto head of state.
So, while the country does have a president, that position does not wield as much influence as say an American president, for example. And the same goes for Iran’s legislative body.
The Supreme Leader also wields the most influence over the country’s military and more.
But Iran wasn’t always run like this.

Over the years I realize US showed his muscle all these years from after 1990 by intervene into other countries politics and government systems to put the person on the power who would be under US influence by asking permission before taking any important political else national decision or given fear of to get under US economic sanctions. But Iran is something else, its unbroken part of mighty Persian kingdom. Iranians are pretty friendly and humble person with immense courage and love for their country. And Iranians were always better in diplomacy, so far I researched about Iran and it's history. They are very courageous and don't hesitate to anything for keeping their words which were given. I love all the Iranian Shi'a muslim brothers and sisters although I am an practicing muslim and I am Sunni. ❤️

saqibmahal That is one of America’s biggest mistakes. As an American I hate what our government did in Iran. We overthrew a democratic government just for oil. Iran could’ve been a great ally today. Also the British are just as guilty.

If Syria was taken by US government it was a big thread for all Islamic neighbors. look at middle east map, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Emirates and etc our taken by US Force, how would you feel if every place around your border was taken by your enemy? we are not evil, we are just trying to have safe region.

@@eustache_dauger dude you r mix and matching everything together. first of all we are democratic and this is a fact, you can search the percentage of participating in our elections. being secular is something you think is good but we disagree. for instance its against Islamic beliefs to have mass destruction weapons and because of that we are never going to make nuke bombs, but USA "secular" government has it. Its against Islamic beliefs to invade another country for stealing their sources, but USA and many other countries do. what Islam says about war is when you hear the request of help from any oppressed person or nation you have to help them despite their religion. we cant lie for our policy we cant change our worlds for policy....i think these are great things of not being secular. about Iran revolution, before that we were the colony of USA, Britain and French, they plundered our oil, our mines, our industry...everything. we were senior citizen's in our country for almost 100 years because of US presence. It was our right and we had to take it back. About other things you said (kuwait, Iraq and bin ladan) if u look it up, youll find that all of it was US trick to take an excuse to build another army in our allies. Saddam Husain the dictator of Iraq, Taliban the radical Islamic group of Afghanistan, ISIS, Osama bin ladan are the puppets of USA and there are many proves about it.

The Shah wasnt overthrown in 53. He fled because he didnt feel safe. The allies brought him back, but he became a torn in their eyes in the 1970s

Shah was never installed after the 1953 coup. Shah of Iran was already the king of the country. The staged coup only removed democratically elected Mossadegh and installed other prime ministers to become puppets to the shah.

The term "supreme leader" is a western construct. In Iran he is called "The Leader of the Revolution" or mostly "The Leader". Also this video does not mention the fact that the leader is appointed by a council of experts who are elected by the people. That council can also, in theory, remove him from power in case they deem it necessary & have a good justification to do so.

Joshua Joshua Islamic republic is really not Iranian. in past dynasties of Iran (safavid and pahlavi) Mullahs had much less influence. The dynasty that gave power to the clergy was Qajar. You can even find homosexual art from the safavid era including a drawing of Shah Abbas the great kissing his bf lol

He instead takes the order of Russia and China what difference does that make? Wasn't a big message of the revolution: "نه شرقی نه غربی" Which translates to not the West or the East. Iran could do just as well if we were neutral rather than always want antagonize people. The supreme leader knows that if he does this he will lose his grip on power. The biggest enemy to the Islamic Republic are Iranians and they know that.
