That’s great! I think I was 8 years into having pretty severe digestive issues when I found the low FODMAP diet. While I know it can be difficult to change your diet, it’s so worth it. My life has completely changed since doing so, and I would not have the beautiful life I do had I not went through the effort to figure out my triggers and eliminate certain foods from my diet altogether. Well worth the sacrifice imo. Try focusing on what you stand to gain rather than the sacrifice or effort that is required. I’m so glad you found my channel and I wish you the best of luck on your digestive journey!❤️

Only about 18 minutes into this so far and I'm at the conclusion that this lady was just NOT at the level of suffering that many of us are whrn we embark upon low FODMAP. Like, I was at the point of, if someone of authority on the subject told me sticking a hot needle briefly into my eye would elevate my symptoms, I would have considered trying it. I was at the point of not making to to the bathroom quite in time, though...so eliminating coffee was definitely a step I was willing to take. Popping in later...this lady! I'm here for just how much you just almost cannot even with her! 😂 Have some meat, lady! Edit again: it didn't work for her bc she SO half 🍑ed it!!! She didn't even complete the full elimition phase! Low FODMAP isn't the problem ! YOU are the problem! 🤯

I mean she said her symptoms were at a 9…. 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I agree, my digestion was so bad that I stopped being able to digest food and I was losing weight at an alarming rate, so I had to do something pretty drastic, but being in that situation made it much easier to fully commit. I find that with my clients too, the worse off they are, the more compliant, and the better their results. I really tried to be fair, but I was just so pissed that she was making of mockery of the thing I have dedicated the last 5 years of my life to, but only because I know just how much this diet can help people, and I was really upset thinking about the fact that her video probably discouraged hundreds of thousands of people from trying something that could help them. Because they’re probably thinking “if this lady is a dietician and she can’t do it, what hope is there for me to pull this off successfully?” That’s all I really care about. Thank for watching and for the comment - I really made me giggle.😆

@@gritandgroceries thanks for your detailed explanation. Your review makes sense now. I just stumbled upon your videos and you seem to be very knowledgeable. Equally the manner you provide information is extremely digestible (no pun intended). I, like Abby, am not experiencing debilitating symptoms but serve enough that my GI doctor has but me on 2 different meds and my GI Nutritionist has urged me to stop eating gluten immediately. However with stress and life I haven’t. I found you in search of people who could help me make the process more simple and easier to get on board. I’m impressed by your approach and think with your videos I will meet my health goals. TY🙂!

I did the low FODMAP diet still had some major digestive pain, so I did a 90 day carnivore elimination diet. 30 days in I was STILL having pain. Cut eggs out and ALL the pain went away! I never knew I had issues with eggs. Thanks to the carnivore diet I now know I can’t eat eggs, sorbitol, gluten, dairy, and fructans. Sometimes I feel super restricted, but over all my stomach feels better.

Hi! I’m glad you’re feeling better and have found what your triggers are. That’s often why i say I love the framework of a therapeutic elimination diet like low FODMAP, because it gives people the tools to figure out what they’re problem foods are beyond fodmaps. I understand it can feel restrictive at times, especially when the holidays roll around, but just remember, nothing tastes as good as healthy feels! You probably know that to be true deep down in your bones now. Another way I try and feel less restricted is by buying myself new spices to try and cook with, so I’m basically eating the same thing, but it tastes different, you know…. Anyway, I’m so happy for you!! Thanks for watching and for sharing your story!

I like that you're pointing out some of the pitfalls. Before I even found out about the low fodmap diet I thought I just had a gluten intolerance and just assumed that any flare ups were from something like improperly handled food or something similar. I also had other problems and had missed so much work between them and digestive issues that I couldn't take time off to see a doctor/nutritionist. I had an extremely hard time giving up garlic, onions, sugar, and dairy. And actual pizza... I also can't really afford to buy foods that I can only have in ¼ cup amounts that I have to throw out because like half of it spoils before I manage to eat it. I'm also very averse to trying new foods or reintroducing them due to how severe the symptoms were. It kinda mimicked severe food poisoning several times a day at its worst. I ended up with a complete 180 in symptoms after I went on the diet and had an unrelated medication change at the same time. And by "180" I don't mean that things were where they should be. Sort of like that scene from Meet Joe Black where he's hit by a bus straight into a taxi; being flung from one problem straight into another. I'm not perfect now, but I rarely have to spend a lot of time in the bathroom any more.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear you've had such a rough time with your health, but it seems like you are doing a great job at cutting out the things that could be causing you issues. I'm just wondering if you might have some unknown/underlying food allergies that may be contributing to the problem beyond fodmaps? I know what you mean about the insane food poisoning feeling, and that usually happens to me when I've ingested something that I am allergic to rather that just a gassy/bloated fodmap fermentation issue. I also feel like its more common for people to develop allergies after having prolonged digestive issues that can cause inflammation and damage to the gut lining. That intestinal permeability can cause immune system dysregulation and lead to the development of food/chemical allergies. Lots of medications can be really hard on the gut lining too, especially antacids. Prolonged antacid use has been shown to set off a chain of reactions that can cause a slew of digestive issues and even lead to food allergies. This really bothers me because I know that antacid recommendation and use is rampant among GI docs and the ibs community. What I'm saying is, you might want to be on the look out for random foods that you might be allergic to. (I'm randomly allergic to peas lol) I'm glad you've made some progress and I hope you continue to! I also know its tough to do reintroductions and make yourself feel like shit after you're FINALLY feeling a bit better, but it is really important to not get stuck in the elimination phase. It's important to have as varied a diet as possible for nutrient purposes, but it's also important to know your personal triggers and limitations so that you don't have to live in fear. Plus if you avoid it for too long, it becomes a whole mental thing in my opinion. You could space out your reintroductions if that makes it easier. :) PS. you should totally try my gluten free pizza recipe!! It's so bomb. I promise it'll hit the spot! But this is another reason why it's important to do your reintroductions and figure out where you stand with lactose, because there could potentially be pizza in your future! :D Thanks for the comment and for watching! I wish you the best of luck on your digestive journey!

Ok my partner and I just finished the video and agreed that you were being unnecessarily mean. Being critical is fine, but being so judgmental and laughing at what you perceive as Abby’s perceived failure at this diet was not cool. Please remember that this diet can be overwhelming to people, that people can get it wrong because we are human. Not everyone has a culinary background or the time or desire to make everything. I do think Abby did the best she could with the time and information she had. Based on her video I think I had an easier time than she did with low fodmap and am happy with my progress. However, as someone who is also recovering from an eating disorder and doing her best with the time I have, I would never ridicule Abby’s honest struggle with this diet. She is not only feeding and healing herself, she’s also feeding her family. And that is going to affect her dietary choices. One last thing. I also follow you on Instagram and saw your story on Abby eating pop tarts. I just don’t understand why you would take the time to criticize her on that when it’s so obvious she is no longer doing low fodmap. It was very “mean girl” of you. I am well-aware of Abby’s own videos on other people’s diets, but she speaks with compassion and with the objective of countering diet culture. I still enjoy your channel and would love for you to monetize and reach your goals with KZfaq. I just hated this video.

I work as a provider in GI. I see IBS at least half my day and along with my own IBS I have found value in the diet. Ido ask my patients if they have any history of disordered eating at ALL. If it’s a yes answer then to my RD they go to get expert help. It can be overwhelming for those people who are limited on income. Where I live, garbage food is cheaper by far than proteins etc. It’s a difficult disease to manage and FODMAPs are part of the issue, but 100% not the complete picture. Thanks for your content.

Hi Allison, thank you so much for watching and commenting! I’m so glad to hear that this diet has helped you, and that mainstream dietitians know more about it. Back when I started in 2017 the dietician I went to didn’t know much about it. I know this diet might seem more expensive, but when I started it, I was in food stamps (because I was so sick that I couldn’t work) and I transformed my diet and health on $192 per month. Because of inflation, CalFresh has increased to $250 per month, which is still what I spend on groceries each month. It can be done! What it really costs is time and energy, but it’s so worth it!

Abbey can do whatever she wants, no one’s trying to stop her. BUT people who choose not to eat meat need to understand that they are 1. Making this diet harder than it has to be because fodmaps are found in plants and dairy products, but not in meat. 2. Trying to get protein from plant sources like legumes is most likely causing digestive issues for a lot of people with ibs. I just want everyone to understand the choices they are making and how that is affecting their bodies regardless of whatever ideology they ascribe to.

I didn't understand why it was so hard for her either. She ended up being diagnosed with SIBO and having to follow that diet later on which is even more restrictive. I do my grocery shopping with an app to cross check 1 the product and then the brand to make sure the ingredients are safe. I took out caffeine for the first year of my diet. Slowly added it back in because it's an maoi and really REALLY helped with my mental health(sad but true). I seriously have a habit of focusing on my list when I go in the grocery store so I don't end up with a whole wall of NO when I go in the grocery store. I will say that being a good stamp recipient in Maryland finding low fodmap soup base that's approved that I can actually buy is..... Not possible. It's not in any grocery store and you just can't buy it online. My gastroenterologist legit put me on the low fodmap AND gastroparesis diet because my gut is like yo I'm not working. Dysautonomia for the win. Fennel is high fodmap btw 😂 i screamed when I saw that. I was told low fodmap, gastroparesis, no red meat, no raw veg, no fried food, I'm allergic to soy, green beans, egg plant, and I'm thinking I'm pretty gluten intolerant (I get hives) I'd like her to try that diet lol. Lmao don't judge I've totally done the fried cheat with take out though cause my parents are like we want to go out, what do you want, uh... Sweet and sour chicken? I can't keep a food journal also because I just won't eat so I understand her mentality with that. Being someone that had an ed as a teen. I think that's half of why I'm getting formula from my drs I'm not losing weight but I'm not getting the right kind of nutrients. Potatos aren't a meal. Chronic illness + this diet + mental health crap + stress is just.... Yup but I'll be forever grateful for your recipes because it's helped me branch out from my Mexican potato standard meal or mashed potatoes with hot sauce cause hot sauce kicks your metabolism and..... Mine doesn't move so I dowse everything I eat in it. Eating a lot of carrots you can actually turn orange there's an enzyme in it or something that will turn you orange it does it to everyone.

Hey girl! Yes, it super helpful having an app or list in the grocery store that helps you get in and out with out being too tempted. I drink caffeine now too, but I did cut it out when my digestion was at its worst, so that I could make a proper assessment of the food side of things and allow my gut lining to heal. I've also dealt with gastroparesis in the past, and it does take a while for the body's nervous system to rebound and learn how to time digestion properly again, but it is possible! I think for me it just took about a year or so of cutting out all of the allergens I was unknowingly consuming and allowing the inflammation subside, and let my nervous system to calm down, and eventually after I was eating real food again and getting the proper nutrients, and my body was breaking it down, it could produce the neurotransmitters that helped to regulate my system/digestion, but also calm my anxiety. I feel like it take half the amount of time you were sick to heal, so be patient with yourself and remember this is a marathon. I too eat out sometimes and try to make the best choices possible, but I usually end up accidentally eating garlic and onion, it so hard to avoid, but it is kinda nice to get that kick in the butt to remind me that eating out is just not worth it to me. I'd rather feel good and be able to put my energy towards fulfilling my life's purpose and help to ease the suffering of others rather than have a moment's worth of mouth pleasure. Yes, I am giving up a lot, but I am getting something so much better in return. I'm so glad my recipes/videos have helped you! What is the correct way of reintroducing food? I think I might have SIBO or similar digestion problems and I'm a bit lost when it comes to the reintroduction phase and I think it could be crucial for succeeding in this diet. @gritandgroceries
@gritandgroceries 11 ай бұрын
You’re right, the reintroduction phase is critical to your success on this diet! For an in depth explanation, check out my Low FODMAP Diet Explained video. I would also say that in the long term, a small to moderate about of gluten free bread and pasta is totally fine on this diet, BUT if you’re in the process of treating SIBO, I recommend that people abstain from sugar and starches like bread and pasta (even gluten free) because it will feed the bacterias and yeasts that you are trying to get a handle on. This is especially important if you are taking antibiotics because if you kill all the bacteria and over feed your yeasts with starch and sugar, they will grow out of control and make your imbalance worse. Stick to a moderate amount of quinoa and gold potatoes ( both are less starchy) and a small amount of white rice until your symptoms improve. Best of luck on your digestive journey!!

I’m not an expert on either keto or carnivore, but when I’m trying to lose weight, I definitely prioritize protein and make sure to include fat to keep me satiated and mostly have that over a bed of leafy greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. If you have digestive problems I’d be careful with the cauliflower - it can be really hard to digest and can cause bloating. Best of luck!

What are your thoughts on the book fiber fueled? I am not vegan nor do i feel like being vegan is the answer but i love that there are recipes that add in more plants and are low fodmap.
@gritandgroceries
@gritandgroceries Жыл бұрын
Hi Angela, I’ve actually never heard of that book. People with ibs need to be careful with fiber because fiber is inherently hard to digest and we have delicate systems, but I do think veggies are an important component of a healthy diet. The key is finding which veggies your body likes. For example, my body loves leafy greens like spinach, arugula and kale - but I can never eat kale raw, it’s just too fibrous and difficult for my body to digest. Same thing with peppers and broccoli and carrots. So while I do think fiber is important, it’s more important to consume fibers that work with your body instead of against it, especially for people with ibs. You can totally eat a lot of plants on this diet, you just have to be very selective. In addition to cooking, fermentation is another great technique that humans developed to help unlock the nutrients in fibrous veggies and make them easier to digest.

Functional med doc told me to try anti candida and low fodmap for a while. Yet I somehow feel like my situation is a little more complex than simply low fodmap foods 🤔🤔. Hi! I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve been having such a rough time, but I was in a similar situation and was able to turn my health/life completely around! With your history of digestive issues and irritated immune system, I’m betting that you probably have some undiagnosed food allergies/chemical sensitivities. That was my issue and the elimination/reintroduction process of the low FODMAP diet helped me to realize that and pin point my triggers. Once I was able to remove the foods/chemicals (processed food) that were triggering my immune system, my digestion improved, hormonal/autoimmune issues cleared, chronic pain went away. It was absolutely miraculous! (I was practically bed ridden for 6 years and couldn’t work) I also had a really bad case of thrush at one point, so it’s very similar, and honestly, I see then pattern with people over and over again. Changing your diet will help. Because of the candida, you will def need to cut out starches and sugars for a bit until your dybiosis is cleared, but you can totally do this! It will take a lot of discipline, but just remember, nothing tastes as good as healthy feels. You got this!! I’ve also got a few slots available for coaching if you’d like a more one-on-one help. DM on Instagram if you’re interested in booking a session.😊

@gritandgroceries
@gritandgroceries 8 ай бұрын
Hi! I’m so sorry for the late reply. You can start the elimination phase and the antibiotics together, but I would wait a couple of weeks after your course of antibiotics are done before starting reintroductions so that you can build back up your microbiome after wiping it out with treatment. The most important thing while you’re taking antibiotics is to not eat starch, sugar, or anything fermented because it can cause a yeast/fungal overgrowth in the digestive tract, because the bacterias are being wiped out and there’s extra room for the yeast/fungus to grow and take over, especially if you’re eating starch and sugar, which is what they eat. It is an absolute pet peeve of mine that docs don’t tell people this when they put them on antibiotics for sibo. I know mine didn’t and I had to figure it out that hard way. Luckily it is fixable if you do get an overgrowth - just cut out starch, sugar and fermented foods for 2-4 weeks and starve it out. I had a particularly bad case and had to do it for about 3 months, but again, it is totally fixable.☺️

What do you think of Beano? It's a digestive enzyme that is supposed to alleviates gas and bloating by improving digestion.
@gritandgroceries
@gritandgroceries Жыл бұрын
I’ve taken digestive enzymes in the past when I was having a really hard time with my digestion, but I wouldn’t recommend beano - it only has one enzyme and it contains mannitol which is a fodmap (polyol). Look for a digestive enzyme blend that contains things like: cellulase, protease, lactase, amylase, papain, bromelian - things like that. BUT be careful and do not use these long term - you want to get out of the mindset of masking symptoms so that you can eat whatever, and use those symptoms to guide you away from the foods that are working against you.
@davidsheriff9274
@davidsheriff9274 Жыл бұрын
@@gritandgroceriesyou are correct, BEANO is probably not meant to be taken long term. I am vegan and I did the FODMAT elimination diet and I can't seem to handle even moderate amount of high or medium FORMAT food. With no meat,fish or legumes, it's hard to get adequate protein. And if I can only tolerate fruits and vegetables that have almost no FODMATS, then I am missing out a lot of important vitamins, minerals and fiber. A low FODMAT vegan diet is not very healthy. I can't even eat a small apple, or a cup of broccoli. The BEANO is not masking what I can't tolerate, I know what foods I can handle, it's just that the BEANO helps so much that it enabled me to eat a healthy vegan diet with an assortment of healthy food. Without the Beano, the only kind of dinner I can eat is tofu, cooked carrots, white potatoes and an orange. I can't even eat a small sweet potato or a tablespoon of peanut butter. I don't know if I need the other enzymes you mentioned, the one in BEANO does the trick for me. Even if there is a high FODMAT ingredient in BEANO,it might be a reasonable trade off. I haven't read anything that says it is dangerous to take long term. Maybe it's time to stop guessing and see a gastroenterologist.

It doesn't say how much meat. I noticed you said you shouldn't drink coffee. My list says you can. It also says I can have sugar and celery. You mentioned you can only have 1/3 of a stick of celery. Is there a list? I'm so confused and would like to do the diet, correct. Thank you.

Hi Jimmie! My rules are a bit more detailed/restrictive than the low FODMAP diet because it’s only one component of maintaining overall digestive health. Download the Monash FODMAP app for a list of foods with serving sizes. Coffee/caffeine is a gut irritant, but not a FODMAP, that’s why your list says it’s okay. If you’re gonna go through this whole process, you should cut out coffee too, at least at first. Same thing with sugar, it cultivates the wrong bacteria in your microbiome and is generally inflammatory - it is low FODMAP but it’s not good for your digestive health. Check out my Low Fodmap Diet explained video for more details. Thank you so much for or the comment, I hope this was helpful, and I wish you the best of luck on your digestive journey!

I still have to watch low FODMAP foods because of my other issues, and you point out that not all foods on the diet don't work for some people. Thank you for helping me as well as others through this diet, it is hard to even get ingredients for this where I'm from!

Hi! Thank you for watching and for the comment. I struggled with all of those conditions too for about 10 years. CFS was the worst! The low FODMAP diet led me to discover that I had some undiagnosed food allergies that I developed from having chronic digestion problems. Once I removed the allergens from my diet (garlic and wheat are the worst for me) the chronic inflammation in my body started to subside, after a few months my immune system calmed down and a few months after that the pain was gone! It was miraculous! Especially since all my docs said there was nothing I could do about it. 5 years later I’m off all the drugs and feeling better than ever! I tell you this because I want you to have hope and not give up, and to empower you to make changes that will improve your life. YOU CAN DO IT! I’m rooting for you.❤️

I think her gf baking is really where she shines, but I personally don’t like to eat a lot of baked goods. I think you can TOTALLY low FODMAP-ify southern recipes! I’m not too familiar with southern cooking, and you might want to make things a little bit less rich and baked or sautéed instead of fried, and it will take some time and effort to figure out, but you can do it!! Have you looked into Celiac disease? My wife suffers from that. After 60 years of not knowing that she was a Celiac she managed to do a lot of unrepairable damage to her digestive tract. Controlling digestive pain is a constant worry for her. Also, adhesions from several sloppy Cesarian deliveries did not help her problem either.
@gritandgroceries
@gritandgroceries 8 ай бұрын
Hello. Yeah, if your wife is celiac, she’s got to get gluten out of her diet. That will help to reduce the inflammatory load on her body from having a constant immune reaction. There’s also good chance that she has developed other food allergies because a sustained gluten reaction causes leaky gut which causes food allergies. Once she is able to identify which foods are causing her problems and eliminate them through an elimination diet, her gut can begin to heal, but it takes a while for the body to build up those tissues. It took me about 2 years (after being sick for 10) once I removed the allergens. I wish her the best of luck on her digestive journey, just make sure to watch out for hidden form of gluten like malt extract and soy sauce, things like that.☺️

I am about to start the lowfodmap diet, and i was wondering about the dairy aspect. According to the charts provided by health organizations where i am from, dairy products Are Okey as long as They Are free from lactose. Like lactose free yoghurt, cottage cheese and so on. Is that the same as what you have experienced? I was relieved when i read that since i have a hard time eating enough protein. I am already prepared to increase meat in the form of chicken, but i know from previous experience that my body has a difficult time Eating a lot of meat (chicken is the easiest one). So being able to eat lactose free dairy products would help a long way to Get the protein.

Hi Viktoria! I do find that I am okay with naturally lactose free dairy products like hard cheeses, heavy cream, and butter. Other products that are marketed as lactose free like lactaid milk and yogurt and other soft cheeses like cottage cheese, I typically don’t do as well with, but we’re all different which is why it’s so important to keep a food journal and run a full elimination/reintroduction diet. If you’d like a more in depth explanation, you should check out my Low FODMAP Diet Explained video.😉 I’m glad you’re prepare to increase your intake of animal protein, your body will need it to repair your gut lining which is usually damaged in people with ibs. @gritandgroceries Жыл бұрын
Hi! I don’t have any issue with people eating nuts how they are nature, but when they are turned into something they’re not by big food it ceases to be food. Same thing with coconuts, super processed in a gross factory, and they add a bunch of emulsifiers to it hold it together because it’s not natural. Also the emulsifiers and preservatives destroy your microbiome and gut lining which cause a cascade of negative health affects. If people want milk, they should drink raw whole milk as nature intended. It is nutritionally superior. If you’re lactose intolerant, like me, you can mix heavy cream and water - that’s what I used to do for my coffee. Lol
@Psychaii

@@gritandgroceries I use almond milk because I am also lactose intolerant, most dairy makes me really sick and additionally I just think cows milk tastes kind of gross lolz. I hear what you're saying but no milk is natural for us at any point except our mothers. ㄟ( ▔, ▔ )ㄏ I think it's a flawed argument that just because almond milk isn't "natural" that it can't be a healthy and viable option. Cows milk was never intended for anyone except baby cows, and almonds were probably not created to be milked lmao. Hi Erin! Caffeine tolerance is a very personal thing, and while I do agree that tea is easier on the gut than coffee, it still might be beneficial to cut it out temporarily. You could try it for a couple of weeks and then access how you feel. Maybe you notice that it actually does make a huge difference for your digestive health and would like to generally limit caffeine going forward, or maybe you discover it doesn’t make a huge difference for you personally. The key is to try it, collect the data, make an honest and open minded assessment, and decide for yourself what is right for YOUR body. I know, right!?! I think it’s 3 main reasons - 1. People don’t think it will work. 2. People are lazy and undisciplined. 3. People are literally addicted to processed food. If you’re concerned about nutrient deficiencies, you can log your meals into a free app called chronometer and see what you’re actually getting from your diet and what nutrients you are missing.😉 I think it’s fine to not be getting all the nutrients you need when you’re in the elimination phase because it’s temporary. You want to make sure you’re getting all your nutrients once you get into the long term maintenance phase. If you’re still eating all the colors of the rainbow and all 3 macro categories: protein/fats/carbs which you can and should on this diet, you should be fine and still be getting all your vitamins and minerals.😊

If you cook all your meals from scratch, it is not even that hard to follow, as long as you are careful about spices and premade sauces and condiments

No more dairy (not even lactose free). I found out I have a dairy allergy. Now I drink unsweetened almond milk, gluten-free oat milk, and unsweetened coconut milk. I make sure that the ingredients list is simple and doesn’t have ibs-triggering ingredients added to it. 2. No more gluten 3. Low sugar. A couple days before my period and the first 2 days of my period I do not eat any candy/ice cream/ sugary cereal. 4. Eat berries everyday. Berries are anti inflammatory. I have 1 cup of blueberries in the morning and 1 cup of strawberries in the afternoon, everyday. I put them in a smoothie (1 cup fruit, 1 cup nondairy milk, and vanilla extract). Sometimes I eat raspberries too. 4. No more soda. It has high fructose corn syrup and caffeine, which cause flare ups for me. Also, I followed this food list www.ibsdiets.org/fodmap-diet/fodmap-food-list/. It has a list of foods to eat/not eat and recommended serving sizes. I truly hope you feel better soon

I learned a lot from your video, and nothing you said is anything I can't take on or accept, but I just want to gently suggest that the judgy tone is detrimental to your cause (helping others). Anyone who isn't "where you are" yet is not going to feel your delivery is approachable. Your tone only works for the converted. In which case, whats the point of your video? Having an audience of people who already went through the whole journey and are looking back from the other side laughing at people who drink coffee or eat sugar? You can say the same information in a different way. You dont have to alter the truth but you can be more understanding (even if its a feeling you personally don't relate to, maybe your viewers or clients do?). Instead of dismissing her concerns as invalid and laughable , even if you dont relate you could try and understand where the concern comes from and... Actually address it? Even if you think it's stupid? I saw in other comments you were frustrated at Abby potentially putting people off fodmap, but personally you rolling your eyes at a person just starting out on fodmap being sad about not being able to eat favourite veggies ever again, is pretty alienating. I am starting out on fodmap and am sad about not eating particular veggies again... Even though they might be causing my digestive issues. So based on what you said about Abby, i can only include you also think I'm stupid, laughable... why would i keep watching your content? Are you really trying to help all people or just people who are "where you are"? Let people get there! Have some patience for peoples idiocy, it goes a long way 😂

Abbeys video was so negative, she didn't offer really any advice she just pointed out all the problems she had with it. Her video was so pointless why even make a video if you are not going to actually complete the elimination, she said she was confident what caused her problems so why not just make a video abt that.. Probably the sponsership offer was the motivation for this... needless to say i am no longer a sub of hers but so glad I found you and your channel!! ♥

This just proves you shouldn't always trust a nutrition. Plant based foods are far healthier and more ethical, so it's absolutely worth the investment. Low fodmap shouldn't be at a moral and enviromental cost. Even though Abby isnt vegan, she eats lots of great plant based foods.

So TWO dieticians worked on her diet and it wasn't right. Lol. Alright... I'm not sure that I need to pay money to a dietician to follow established guidelines. Not when that's what a double dietician created Fodmap program looks like. Lol. To think you can have an elimination diet and keep ice cream?! Oh boy. Like I find my BIGGEST offenders to be dairy, gluten, and sugar. If she's not cutting processed food, if she's not cutting ice cream, if she's still eating wheat... Like you said, girrrrrrl...

I just want to say that I was diagnosed with IBS many years ago but ignored it. But, there came a time when I just couldn't stand the smelly gas, the sick stomach causing headaches and so many other problems. I kept a diary of what I ate and how I felt. Looking back at the diary, there wasn't one day were I felt good. So I researched IBS and found the Low Fodmaps Diet and printed it out. At this point I didn't care if I only ate bananas if it was going to solve my problems, but I found the fodmaps to be very surprising. I started eating foods I never ate before, like eggplant, kiwi etc. I didn't miss the fruits and veg I was use to eating and found this diet to be an adventure and very simple. I told my doctor I was following a fodmaps diet and that it had changed my life. No more sick stomach, headaches, gas etc. He was very pleased and said he wished all his patients with IBS would follow it, but most just give up. He highly recommends it. I also saw a dietitian and sorry to say she was absolutely no help at all. Unfortunately I got sick with a respiratory infection which lasted 5 months and at that time I couldn't follow the fodmaps because I wasn't well enough to cook and had to have meals delivered - which were far from fodmap friendly. I have just gone back to the fodmaps because all my IBS symptoms have returned. So I'm looking forward to getting back to a much better life. I think that if someone gives up on this diet, they haven't reached the point of sickness that they just can't stand another day of, and would do anything to feel better. Thank you for your videos. :)

Hi MollyAnn! Thank you so much for sharing your story! I agree that most people don’t find success on this diet because they give up, especially when the world is telling them it’s so hard, like the woman in this video, which is why I was so irritated. Lol. I was also so sick that making a drastic change was not difficult if it meant that I would be healthy and feel better. Unfortunately I think most people have felt so bad for so long that they don’t even really understand that they would feel better if they changed their diet. That’s sucks to hear that the dietician you went to wasn’t helpful - I experienced the same thing (before I became a nutritionist), but after some research and practice it really isn’t that complicated and I’m so glad to hear that’s been your experience as well. I really do believe this diet can help people changes their lives like it has for the both of us, which is why I started this channel to share my recipes. And while I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been dealing with a separate health issue lately, I’m glad your doing better and ready to get back at it!! I will just say that after having ibs for such a long time, you might want to keep an eye out for random food allergies you may have developed over they years. I find that to be pretty common for people with chronic ibs, but with your food journal and symptom tracking, you should be able to pinpoint any thing else that might be ailing you. IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU! Keep up the great work!!❤️

I disagree with Abby that eating low fodmap foods is difficult. Eliminating the foods that give you digestive grief is easy. So many foods are still available that don't give you digestive grief. Simply put, you either want to feel better or you don't. Our teeth and digestive enzymes are designed to consume animal protein. Overall Abby isn't my cup of tea when it comes to people giving out health information

For sure - nothing tastes as good as healthy feels! Especially not cauliflower. Lol. Girrrl I had no idea stating that humans are omnivores would be so controversial - lol thanks for your comment and I wish you the best of luck on your digestive journey!

It feels like she's not fully recovered from her ED. Making such an issue of what she can't have because they're vegetables screams disordered eating

Yeah, I kinda got that vibe too. Poor thing. I’m so grateful that after all my issues with food I never developed a disorder like orthorexia or anything like that.

You are too overly critical of her. As a person recently diagnosed with UC an IBS disorder, it’s difficult to make this transition. All of us don’t have your willpower to stop all bad things cold turkey. I can completely relate to Abby as a person with children trying to make this switch while also catering to my children and busy work schedule. Not sure if you have kiddos and a demanding career but, you’re coming across very judgmental and as a self-righteous low FODMAP guru. It’s not a good look Grit and Groceries. You can give a review without being overly critical.

I feel like people watched her video and thought, “oh man… if this was hard for a Registered Dietician, it’s definitely going to be too hard for me. I’m not even going to try it.” I’m trying to prove that this diet is not as difficult as she made it out to be and that people should still try it instead of being discouraged.

Judgement is a necessary component of life. It's also not incompatible with kindness. Judgement is the natural outcome of discernment. Your admonishment to the creator of the video makes no sense and also doesn't contribute to the discussion. edit: after watching several of Abbey's videos, your comment makes even less sense. Abbey LOVES to judge what others eat and their lifestyles. It seems to be the bulk of her channel. Why in the world would anyone be concerned with being kind and judgement neutral to Abbey Sharpe?

All of her videos annoy me. She seems really off base with most of her critiques. She posted a video a while ago about her ED. Then it all made sense. Probably shouldn't be giving eating advice if you have an eating disorder 🙄

She basically knows only what she finds convenient to know...she seems to like the feeling of being in a state of discomfort and distress and , in my opinion, she sees a dietician because she really is not at all competent in this field of work...she wouldn't be the first INCOMPETENT person in the medical field!!!!!😏😉
