You didn't cheat. You retroactively created the PatLocke, with its unique rule being that you're allowed to use a single revive at any point in the playthrough. 😉

Nah, you’re only allowed to revive that specific pokemon at that specific point in the game, to the point of IV/EVs and Exact frame/game progression

I made a rule for nuzlockes that I do of, if it is possible to find a max revive on a route, and only one per possible route, you could revive a previously fainted pokemon. If you aren't releasing them.

That and Patterz is fundamentally and inextricably linked to the Nuzlocke format. He's an OG pioneer. If you want to talk the history of Nuzlockes or even just Pokemon content in general, you gotta talk about Patterz.

I'm a little sad that he didn't bring up Saltydkdan's Friendlocke series. It's a hybrid of a nuzlocke run and actual play series that assigns each of his encounters to one of his friends who then control their pokemon. It's amazing and my personal favorite piece of nuzlockes content on KZfaq

I found Nuzlockes while I was on DeviantArt back in the day and would obsessively read different comics of different runs because Pat is right: Nuzlockes are a great way to show your story telling skills. A lot of Nuzlocke comics have influenced headcanons and the way I see characters.

3:28 To be fair if you look at the newer Doom games, they somehow manage to keep that exact same smoothness and stay true to the original movement at the same time. Fantastic movement throughout that series, just has a diff feel.

Even if it was only for a short moment, I'm glad he showed TeamFourStars Nuzlocke. Their videos were how I found out about Nuzlockes, and they are just hilarious. I've rewatched their runs so many times.

U know this makes me think of rly old rpgs like sacred where u could pick a hardcore mode so that u had to start a new game everytime u died. That genre kinda was killed with the release of d 3 cause since then u needed to be online all the time meaning ur game was lost once u had a dc. I even remember that in sacred there was a graveyard with tombstones which had the name of the players who died on it.

Pokemon community: Rare candies are cheating! Animal Crossing community: Time traveling is cheating! How about let people play how they want, don’t like the way they play? Why are they watching then? They should do their own videos if they wanna act all high and mighty lol… Definitely understandable about not wanting to mention it, just to avoid the complaining haha…

If I had to guess, it was because people were treating it more like a competition instead of a fun game mode you can change however you want. Like the purists were treating it like official leaderboards or tournaments where you don’t want people to cheat or break the rules otherwise why have an official tournament or whatever. But nuzlockes are fundamentally not that, they were always a self imposed challenge people added to have fun. There’s no competing with others, just yourself and the game. I will say it’s cringe if you establish a rule and back out of it. Like if a KZfaqr said they would eat a ghost pepper after reaching 100k subscribers. It’s not a crime, but it’s a bit cringe. Like you set up the rules, but then back out. But this is all more so a separate issue and is off topic.

I had found a glitch in gen 3 games, when you put your Pokemon in the pc and withdraw them, they get fully healed with moves and status effects removed, try it, only the gba gen 3 Pokemon games work, I think

I invented a lock called the foxlocke it's just like a normal nuzlocke but if you battle someone with the same pokemon u have in ur party or out u gotta release it Same rules same everything but you can lose a pokemon with full health

I rember how back in the day of the first dark rising nuzlocke everyone hated on pat since his team was full and he couldn't get his legendary and than he got it in anyway. What a filthy cheater, i will never forget that, back then i lost all respect for him as a human being.

I like old nuzlockes. They were more about bonding with your pokémon than trying to make the game as hard as possible. I still play now the same way I did back then, though I do try a lot more variants to make my runs unique from each other.
