Great job, carpenter who specialises in doors, just about to fit my own kitchen and haven’t fitted a worktop in years and never a solid oak worktop, this video although not necessarily detailed had definitely helped! Thank you Did you oil the underside of the worktop with osmo? Twice in the same way you did the top?

Hi . Thank you for your message. I did just one coat of oil underneath and vapour paper under the washing machine and dishwasher.

Cracking job, I was concerned back of bench wasn’t sealed also wasn’t sure about gluing joints as possible expansion and contraction of timber with grain running in different directions. Not a criticism simply a question as I’ve been a carpenter and joiner for nearly 40 years and fitted hundreds of kitchens some of which had solid timber bench tops ?

If you don’t glue the joint and add biscuits that joint will move on you no matter how much you are tightening the worktop bolts. My first install was just glue and bolts . Six months later a had to re -do it . I know it is advisable to seal all the surfaces but if you control the humidity in the house there will be no issues. In my house I did install the worktops above 7 years ago . I sealed just the top . They look the same like in day one . Working for a client we have to do everything we can to avoid problems in future. Some people like the natural wood but they don’t understand how difficult it is to maintain it.

Nice work! I have ordered the same worktops but what I want to do is run the joints (in my case 2 as it is a C shaped kitchen) at a 45' angle into the corner to keep the flow of the wood. Would I have to do anything different? Also I have seen no one else using the waterproof sheets on the underside of the worktop, which is a great idea (thanks again) but where can I get it? as I have not seen them in B&Q/Howdens etc..
@valentinointeriors3023 Жыл бұрын
Hi . The waterproof sheet is from Howdens. It is installed over the washing machine/ dishwasher. If you just use oil will be ok also. Cutting the worktops at 45 degrees also looks good. The problem is that you need good walls and square walls . Also a bit more difficult to secure with the worktop bolts . Thank you
@valentinointeriors3023 Жыл бұрын
Very important to read the angle of the walls . If the wall is 88 degrees you need to cut the worktops at 44 degrees otherwise they would not look good. I normally read the angle as good as I can , then I cut one side and put it in the 2nd one and trace the line .

Looks lovely! Can you use dowels instead of biscuits?
@valentinointeriors302311 ай бұрын
You can use dowels and dominoes as well. The only problem comes when you don’t have the space to push one worktop into the other. With biscuits you can angle the worktop a bit and it does work. You can’t do that with dowels and dominoes. Thank you

Thanks for the reply. Space won't be an issue with my work surface, so I'll go with the dowels.
