You can also use the internal recording buffers of the Flex tracks to record the loop, edit it and then be able to switch with the fader from the original to the recorded one (perhaps sliced with triangle (or sine designed) lfo set to "hold" to achieve a controlled slice changes. If setted properly you can get variations at each passing trig). have fun!✌️✌️

"it’s not meant to be (a drum machine) “ It’s meant to be nearly anything you want it to be, and do a great job at it. Maybe it’ll fall a little short as a drum synthesizer compared to dedicated drum synths, (Though with single cycle waveforms, fast envelopes and effects like the comb filter, it can generate some great percussion) - But as a straight sample based drum machine, nothing can touch it imo.

As someone who's been on the hardware and octatrack train a long time, it's interesting to see you approaching it. I certainly wish there had been videos like this around back when I was trying to get my head around the mk1!

Whoever said the OT isn’t a great drum machine obviously has zero clue.

Haha, as soon as you hit play on that loop, I was like "Oh, I see why he has trouble programming beats he wants." I've been programming beats for years and I would have a hard time programming something like that :)

As you said, you really have to accept that it will be quite random if you mess with the starting points via LFOs. It's a bit too much for my more orderly brain I guess, even though I could see myself using something like this momentarily to spice things up. At one point I'm going to experiment with one-shots with different sounds for different parts that I can change between. It sounds good in theory (and in my head), but we'll see (or hear).

you can have a "controlled chaos" over the lfo's since u can design it as u want :) Or set a recording buffer, record the loop, slice it and assign manually the slice u want, or automatically . You can then switch between the original loop and the mangled one. Useful for fills on the go, for example :)

its not a drum machine, its a sampler, mixer, sequencer, fx unit.... and it can be a drum machine if you want it too., It can be a pony unicorn and ice cream, it is what you want it to be.

Thanks for your vids. I will continue to watch. But after literally a year of researching Elektron boxes, I'm going with the Roland SP-404 mk2. Seems much more user- and guitar-friendly. Looking forward to your review!

less is more. perc. sounds a little too dense / cluttered... it's nice to have some space, as opposed to a wall of layered drum patterns

Haas anything been put in world wide that’s more interesting than beats /melody etc ,,,, but are they like snowflakes..//are beats breaks endless ..perhaps they are with layers ..but I feel that music has turned a corner that loops itself../frequency Melodie ..after all Beatles stole all the guitar chords

Beats are very busy and don’t leave a lot of room in the mix for other instruments. A real drummer can only make 4 sounds at any one time. The rest is frankly overkill.
@aquabluestew-2244
@aquabluestew-2244 10 ай бұрын
Idk I think maybe it would be wiser to have the drums progressively lead into this much «business » since it is indeed very busy, it’s rush hour in New York like damn, that way listeners would not just be getting hit with a solid wall of drums, on top of that if it were a little less busy at some points, there would be more room for melodic elements and pauses. I run into problems where no matter how variations I make for the drum line, it quickly sounds repetitive to some, and because it’s a bit overwhelming, it’s a bit difficult for the casual listener to really recognize and appreciate the changes of these drum variations, slightly more simple listeners may just qualify it as a big bunch of drums they didn’t understand, yet hear a melody that has a pretty rigid container to flow thus making that aspect sound underdeveloped because the number of options will be somewhat more restricted in order to leave all this room for percussions if it’s to be present from beginning to end. Still sounds pretty sick though but I don’t know if I’d be comfortable with so much and I’m dead certain that mixing /mastering track sounding like this will end up being a really intricate task for either one of the folliowing: a playback on a car stereo, a playback on a clubs huge system, a playback in headphones or a playback on just a smartphone internal speaker. Guaranteed one of these types of playback won’t be spot on perfect.. plus I’m even willing to say that adding in other melodic instruments without being extra careful will come and muddy some of these drum hits.

I had okta and i had to say it's a shit drum machine, yeah yeah - it could play samples, but okta doesn't have 1/4 that analog rythm has. I dont know how that works for Fjaak, but to me everything that goes from okta for drums is liveless, and flat.
