Come off grid homesteading with us. We go trout fishing on the Brule River and catch our dinner. It's warm enough now to get out into the garden and plant spinach, radishes and onions. Thank you so much for watching! Hope you have a great day. -Shane and Lindsey Krumrie

He sure is, can't believe how fast he grows. His paws are huge and his ears are getting so long! Hopefully that means he's going to be a big Basset Hound!

Another awesome video! I am going to share that mice do not like mint so maybe planting some in your garden house would be very beneficial. Also they don’t like dryer sheets either. So hopefully one of the two may help. I used the fabric sheets when we would store our traveling trailer and it definitely keep them out. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to your next video. God bless❤

Thank you for the nice comment and I love your mice tips! I totally am going to plant some mint... I've never grown it but you remind me that mint is good at keeping away the pests, plus I can put it in my tea! Awesome to hear. Love your comments - hope you have a great Sunday!

Spring is here. I started seeds eight weeks before our last frost. I am just south of Eau Claire, last frost is May 15th. When we plant our onions we build a dirt raised bed about 16 inches wide, put two layers of newspaper down. Cut small holes, staggering back and forth. Push a onion set in each hole. Not even all under ground. Almost no weeding. Onions and weeds don't mix. Had bad yields before doing this. Now great onions. Have a great garden year. Love having a area homestead to watch. Not somewhere 1000 mile away. Thanks.

Hey! Appreciate the comment so much, thank you for sharing your gardening tips! I totally agree, onions and weeds don't mix... good idea putting the newspaper down. I've been just weeding by hand so far. Love hearing from a local! Hope you have a great garden year as well! Have a good day.

Nice little brown! Love your little cheat sheet for the regulations lol. They can be really confusing, not a fan. I pretty much just do catch and release. Caught two nice 11” Brookies on my creek last week.

Yes, the brown was the perfect eater. We're not that familiar with the regulations either, we normally do catch and release for trout... but it is nice to have them for a treat though! We like them baked and then dipped in butter. Nice getting the 11" Brookies, those are nice sized! Walleye opener is coming quick, we've been working on cleaning the boat and getting it all ready! Hope you have a good Sunday! Happy gardening too.

Thanks for your nice comment! We haven't went down and picked any morels but I bet they're coming out now. I should call down to my dad and see if the morels are up. It's about 3 hours away but it so worth the trip. The problem we have is the mushrooms come up right around the same exact time as walleye fishing opens for Wisconsin and Minnesota. This always takes over and we forget about the morels. Hopefully we'll get some time to go down there for the day. Hope you have a wonderful week as well!

Yay Krumries. At least the mice won't bother the garlic and onions. Will you guys be getting meat birds this year? Enjoy the nice weather.😊

That is true, they steer clear of the garden at least! Once the plants get into the garden they seem to be safe. We will definitely be raising meat birds again, they were such a great deal. Huge birds and so tasty, I mean really very tasty! Can't wait to get those cute little chicks! Thanks for commenting... Hope you have a great week!

How long do your vegetables last after you harvest them?
@KrumriesCabin

Thanks for your questions... I get a good year out of the tomatoes that I jar, because I have so many! I usually get about 6 months out of the squash, onions, and potatoes... once we get our root cellar finished then it will be longer. I freeze the carrots so they last a whole year, which works good for putting them in soups and things. Cucumbers I make into pickles and last a few good months... I need to find a good recipe, one that will keep them crispy even for a year. All the lettuce we just eat fresh. Anyways, I could keep going, lol, so I better stop! I love talking about this topic - thanks for your question. Hope I answered it! Have a good Sunday!

He's an Icelandic. All our chickens are Icelandics, they're a great homesteading breed, especially for a homestead on a budget. They're very good at foraging for their own food. Thanks for the nice comment! Hope you have a good day.
