This is big, after all these years he finally admits that they sparred and he called him teacher. Eat it haters. On top of that he said that during their time if he had competed he would’ve been very good at it. It’s still a shame that he called Bruce his friend and yet his ego got into the way.

I didn't either. But when questioned in an interview if he and Bruce Lee fought each other when they trained together, Chuck said no and then he said in a prideful way, "I was a professional fighter" and then interviewer asked "and Bruce Lee wasn't?" and Chuck said no while shaking his head no. Chuck said it in a way as to say that maybe he thought he was better because he was a professional fighter and Bruce Lee wasn't. It was disrespectful towards Bruce Lee.

He doesn't owe an apology to us and honestly there wasn't one here. He wrote Bruce and it was between them so good on him. I'm 52 years old and loved the martial arts. Back when I was a teen there was very little available to us. Black Belt magazine and the VHS movie tapes. Bruce Lee & Chuck Norris movies, as cheesy as they were......were the best. Every once in a while when the question comes up about anyone you could meet and talk with dead or alive in history, my answer has always been Bruce. That would be cool. Cheers.

@@bigben6508EXACTLY right. I was reading that letter, and very confused how he'd admitted to lying. It seemed like he was arguing that he'd told people about their training, and some took it the wrong way... And as a side note, I have absolute respect to Bruce Lee, but not competing is a totally different thing. Competing puts the absolute best against the absolute best, and most everyone eventually fails. It's human nature. Modern MMA is full of tales of men who are abnormally gifted in the gym, but didn't become champions in the ring. Not saying that would be the case for Bruce, just being open that he had his own thing going, and like Chuck says, "he didn't have to". I think Chuck acknowledges Bruce in the appropriate way, and is very honest "we never fought".

Bruce was already a good fighter and pretty damn confident in his abilities and didn't need to prove it to the world by fighting in the ring. Chuck was a good martial artist but his championship belt was for nothing more then a " game of tag " it was not kickboxing or full contact Karate. As has been said, you have misrepresented everything included in this video, the letter and the video of Chuck. There was no apology in that letter which is from the 1970s and no apology in the video. He opens the letter wishing Bruce Lee good luck in the movie and then says he wants to clarify any misinterpretations Bruce may have heard about their training together. He said in the letter that he was not ashamed to have trained with Bruce Lee, not that he was ashamed to have lied about it. He never used the word teacher in the letter. He said "It was a privilege learning from you." That is not the same thing as calling someone your teacher. He claimed that he had told hundreds of people he had trained with Bruce, etc. I think this is being exaggerated to become a big apology. If, as the story goes, Bruce Lee was angry in those days because he heard Chuck was telling people he was not Bruce's student, then it would appear the letter from Chuck to Bruce was a reaction to that. However, he still never really characterizes himself as Bruce's student. He's more saying they both learned from each other. The same kind of thing he's always said. Let's be real. He will never apologize.

I can most certainly understand why Chuck Norris had to put on a mantle of equal or better persona. Chuck being Second Best just would not do in the super hero genre and yet be able to do all he has done. I am not about to take anything away from Bruce Lee OR Chuck Norris. HollyWood is and always has been an imaginary idea of what folks wish. But it can only rarely be achieved. Chuck continuing to play this imaginary role was of course, simply manditory.

My understanding is, he studied in Japan, aikido. He studied a different style. Bruce Lee was jeet kune do, wing Chun. If he said he studied with lee, his credibility is down the sewer. His pride and arrogance turns me off. Bruce Lee came from China to Seattle Washington, 1960s, opened schools to teach jeet kune do. Then later went to California. Lee was humble enough to train with gene lebell, Judo. Bruce Lee was open minded, he incorporated different styles with his jeet kune do. The other dude, does know a couple different styles, aside from aikido. I don't believe he ever met Bruce Lee, it's my opinion.

To put it simply, Bruce Lee was and continues to be the greatest martial artist of all time. His speed and quickness was unmatched. How do you defend against something you can't see? Answer...you can't. And as far as Chuck Norris goes, he is also deserving respect for what he has accomplished. But I heard NO apology to the one and only true master...BRUCE LEE.

I'm not aware that Norris ever denied working out with Lee... I've seen a few vids of Norris talking about his experiences with Lee. What that letter could be from is some third person or persons misinterpreting something they heard Norris say or thought he said about not giving credit to Lee about Kung Fu as a subject or what have you. The letter clearly says that he writes the letter to wish him success with the movie AND to clear up any misinterpretations of anything he has heard about them training together... He goes on to say he has told hundreds of people they had trained together and that his ego is such that he isn't ashamed of that fact. I think you're grossly in a misunderstanding of this situation.
@louisianaredbird5496

Chuck has ALWAYS talked about their training together and them trading skills. Bruce taught Chuck some hand movements, Chuck taught Bruce his kicking techniques from Tang Soo Do. They taught EACH OTHER, they were equals, and MOST importantly they were friends. Chuck ALWAYS told people about them training, and NEVER ONCE said anything other than what I described, a friendship where they trained with and learned from each other. Chuck said in that letter he was clearing up what OTHER people said about his stories, and making it clear to Bruce that he always told people of their FRIENDSHIP and that how amazing a martial artist he was, not just a master of King Fu but a master of ALL martial arts, and a master of his own style. That video you showed had NO apology, just another instance in which he told his story about Bruce and him training and learning together as FRIENDS. ALWAYS pay close attention to what people say in writing and in person, because otherwise you end up causing the same rumors that Chuck was clearing up in the letter and his inspiring stories of him and Bruce. You have completely misinterpreted this story and took advantage of people’s trust. If you can truly speak and read English, read the letter. He learned from Bruce, not calling him teacher, and he TAUGHT BRUCE LEE kicks from Tang Soo Do. SHAME on you for lying to these people and for a gross misrepresentation of their friendship. They were BOTH humble enough to say they learned from EACH OTHER. I unsubscribed a TWO years ago because of this video and I’m appalled to see it still up. Shame on you for your dishonesty.

You also see in pro-wrestling how some guys are hyped up as the toughest ever and these guys often don't have any fight record. They simply beat up some drunks in a bar. Bruce's case is pretty similar; he has no fight record but lots of people are inflating his image. When a person is dead people find it polite and just to speak highly of them. This also kind of happened to Brandon; his star could have faded fast but his tragic demise caused his last movie to balloon into cult status.

It's interesting that Chuck Norris said Bruce Lee didn't have to become a competitive fighter to develop recognition because he was already a star because Bruce Lee himself said in an interview that the terms star and superstar really turns him off because he believed it to be an illusion. I don't know if Bruce Lee was prideful towards people because of his fighting skills, but he seems to have been humble about not desiring to chase superstardom. While other martial artists like Chuck Norris were competing professionally to make a name for themselves, Bruce Lee seems to have become a "star" without even trying. He expressed to Chuck Norris during a private conversation how surprised he was that he was being offered movie roles with a blank check telling him to fill in the amount. He trained hard to keep his body in peak physical condition and to try his best to perfect his own fighting method and he trained other martial artists and fighters including Chuck Norris and Joe Lewis and they won all of the major championships and their own fighting styles greatly improved after training with Bruce Lee.
