For many years, I made soap in my husband's great Grandma's 25 gallon cast iron kettle over an open fire. I taught living history life skills at a historic site for around 20 years - 1840 style! It was some of the best times of my life. I just found your channel and subscribed.

That is amazing! I love living history, a great resource to know how those before us lived. I have always wondered how the pioneers measured the lye back in those days. Modern Soap making is so tedious. Did they make the lye with steeped ashes? Thank you for subscribing and watching!

I'm hand washing my clothes. Quilt making is just how my great grandmother taught me . The sourdough is the best. Smells all through house

I make kefir too! I also have chickens. But we are urban homesteaders and don't have cows. I would love to make soap!! I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them.

Did you place the towel over the cow to keep flies from bothering her during milking? Never seen that before.

Yes, that is exactly why I placed a towel over her back. It really helps and she likes it!

Do you bring in a specific breed of chickens for meat?

Yes, we keep Plymouth rocks and Buff Orpington breeds as dual purpose chickens. We only eat the chicken that we butcher.
