fun little detail that I have to mention for the scottishness of it all - when Aziraphale borrows the phone, the background is the union jack; when he returns it, repaired/blessed, it has the scottish flag as a background!

While that might have been Az's color inspiration, I hated how Az totally disrespected Crowley and his boundaries during that plot. Az manipulated Crowley into giving him *Crowley's* car that he clearly lives in with his plants. That's not their car, it's Crowley's car and place to sleep, but Az seems to feel entitled to selfishly do what he wants regardless of Crowley trying to set boundaries. The color change was disrespectful of Crowley's feelings, and Az knew it, because when Crowley got upset asking what he did to the car, Az tried to deny he'd done anything. Also, in my opinion, the Bentley was prettier black, instead of looking like a fancy school bus.

@@Nikki-oe7gr Gaiman says Aziraphale doesn't know Crowley is sleeping in his car, if that helps. As Aziraphale points out, they both get a lot of use out of the bookshop. This thing about the car keys seems like a very married thing. I don't think there was any way Crowley wouldn't give up the keys. I do think the Bentley looks gorgeous in that yellow, though.

I was going to note this was a possibility -- I'm not sure about Edinburgh, but it was the case in London, so it seems likely. The yellow fog so romantically described in the Sherlock Holmes stories is yellow from sulphur.

I can't imagine being bothered by my corpse being put to good use once I'm dead. If I'm dead, it's not gonna affect me one way or another, since "me" won't exist anymore. I'd be glad if my death could benefit people or save lives, in whatever way possible -- better than just _dying._ Heck, I even quite like the thought of simply being a feast for worms and carrion-eaters, or decomposing into the ground and leaving nutrient-rich soil for a tree to grow in -- doesn't have to be _humans_ who benefit. I fear death just as much as anyone, but I find comfort in the thought that after I die, the matter that I was made of will continue to be an active part of the living world, even if it's no longer living together as _me._ It's the idea of jealously hoarding my biomass to myself even after I'm dead that I find off-putting.

Oh wow. I paused to look at the poison bottle, because I noticed that it actually looked like a real old poison bottle, with a ribbed surface to make it harder to grab it by accident instead of something else. And then I looked at the text on the label, I wanted to see if it said "not to be taken" anywhere. But I saw something much more interesting. The manufacturer is C. M. O. T. Dibbler, which means Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler, a character from the Discworld books! He sells pies and sausages-in-a-bun of questionable quality, and does just about anything he can profit from. I didn't know before that resurrectionist is actually the term used for people who dig up corpses to sell. I first heard in A tale of two cities, and thought it sounded weird. But after watching this episode, I looked it up, and learned that it was actually used correctly. I would absolutely be ok with people using my body for something like this after I'm done with it. Just make sure I'm actually out before cutting it up..

Aziraphale usually would help people by blessing their crops or whatever, but this period of industrial changes has sent a lot of people from the country to the city. He also does try to save souls from eternal torment (which is kind of understandable on his part). But things are changing rapidly for him after having been the same for centuries. The doctor, though, uses the bodies of the poor for dissection (they can't afford grave guns to protect their loved ones' corpses) and uses the poor to get the bodies. Wee Morag said she didn't think you could get into Heaven if you were dissected like this (Aziraphale starts to tell her that's wrong) and when Elspeth tries to kill herself, she wants to be put somewhere that "monsters like [her]" can't do that to her. I don't think there's anything wrong with you. I do think this story shows that everyone is wrong but sort of not wrong too. My headcanon is that Elspeth and Wee Morag did get into Heaven (not what I call Heaven corporate that we see on the show, but the Heaven where humans go).

Slight spoiler ahead. Do not read if you haven't finished the show. Angels as a whole are super dense about humanity and life on Earth, Gabriel in season 1 could not remember the word 'books'. Muriel is even more so because they are pretty isolated in heaven as well as they appear to be a functionary in the bureaucracy of heaven which does not see a lot of interacting with other angels either.

I have a love and hate relationship with this episode. I loved it because poisoned/drunk Crowley is so priceless that I'd be giddy watching an entire episode of him like that. I hate it because I want to scream at Aziraphale for always assuming he knows better than Crowley. I understand it comes with the territory of being an angel, but Az has seen enough by that time to know that what's supposedly good isn't always good. This is long after the lessons learned in the Job plot. The bit with Az saying poor have more opportunities than the rich infuriated me, especially, since Az could have done some good from the start and given the girl money to have food and shelter. Then him performing magic to spoil the body enraged me. If Az thought what the doctor would do to the body was disrespectful, spoiling it by use of magic is just as disrespectful. When Crowley gave Az that disapproving look, I was right there with him. Then after that deal with the doctor was ruined, Az still doesn't give her any money, despite the fact that he apparently had loads of it. Then she and her friend or girlfriend go to get another body, and the other girl gets killed during the second trip because Az ruined the first body. That girl's blood is on Az's hands as much as if he would've shot her himself. Still, he doesn't give her money. Then the grave robber girl got ripped off by the doctor and was ready to unalive herself, and it's Crowley who directly pressured Az to give her money. As a result, Crowley gets pulled down into Hell, and likely tortured in some way while he's there, because what else would happen when he's punished for doing good. And when Az says in his diary that he didn't see Crowley for quite some time, Az doesn't seem upset at all. Az is literally responsible for that girl being killed and for whatever punishment Crowley suffered, but Az seems to take no responsibility and have no lasting remorse for the great harm he caused by thinking he's better. I love Az, and I love Crowley/Az as a couple, but this was a very bad look for Aziraphale, and I don't feel like Az learned from that misadventure considering the way he manipulated Crowley into giving him *Crowley's* car that he clearly lives in with his plants. That's not their car, it's Crowley's car and place to sleep, but Az seems to feel entitled to selfishly do what he wants regardless of Crowley trying to set boundaries. And just for the record, I think the car is prettier black, instead of looking like a fancy school bus.
@rob.3143
@rob.3143 Ай бұрын
I could be wrong but I believe that the conversation about the poor having more opportunities than the rich is from the book, a discussion between our ineffable husbands that would be fitting for the scene. I do agree it's stupid but it shows the continuing hold Heaven's dogma has on Az. In regards to spoiling the body, I can see your point but what he appears to have done is speed up the natural decaying process which would have happened normally with the body buried as opposed to the 'desecration' done by the doctor's examination. On the whole I believe that our angel has the kind of personality which has a hard time adapting to new things; he runs a bookshop, buys and listens to records rather than owning some kind of radio. This would also be seen in his mode of thought and tendency to hold on to ideas and allegiances. All of this is in stark contrast to Crowley who rolls with most everything new and the changes in the world.
