hi I read your comment and just thought I would mention a shop called rails of Sheffield .they were doing some reasonable on30 locos.also hattons shop were doing some .they had a Baldwin 4.6.0.with sound for £175.00 .I got one and its very impressive ,its a big loco. just one word these locos such as the shay and the climax will not take tight curves as much as you may think .a lot of folk buy into on30 thinking you can cram a lot into a small space and have really tight curves ...well you can if you run porter 0.4.0s and 0.4.2.s and the little davenport gas loco ,but your more fancy locos like shay ,heisler ,climax etc will need no less than medium radius or radius 3 .give it a go though.i really love its quirkiness. if I can help give me a reply .cheers.

I bought one of the rail buses ,it had to go back to have the bevel gears replaced ,they had all split due to the grease used in the early Bachmann spectrum on30 models. the same thing had happened on my climax and shay but they had already been replaced , its a problem which shouldn't occur on such expensive models .here in the uk these mdels are hard to find and expensive especially the heisler .I really love your layout and it has been an inspiration to me and a source of many ideas .

Absolutely stunning Layout! I'm trying to rebuild my unfinished HO Scale Layout, in On30. I've kitbashed a few Locos and several Cars over the past 10 years... THOUGHT I'd stick with HO, but it's just become way too expensive for this Disabled Veteran. 😞 I love the "license" On30 gives. The charm and interesting Scratchbuilding opportunities it brings! My only worry is the cost of enormous Trees. 😳 My Freelance Pacific Belt RR, now in 4 different Scales since 1975, has always been in the Pacific Northwest. Gotta have big Trees! Really outstanding work you've done! 👍👍 I hope you're still going. I'm looking for inspiration. Carmine ✈🚂🚙

Thanks Carmine!! I have been building in On30 for over 25 years now and in my humble opinion it the "Best" scale to work in for all of the points you have touched on!! I agree on BIG TREES for any Pacific Northwest Railroad, just dive in and build some. I use Caspia for branches and Balsa wood to trunks. You can find Caspia on line and it usually goes for around $10.00 a bushel which will make a couple of large trees!! Thanks for your service!! I too am a veteran.......did some time in the jungles of Vietnam back in 68/69. Glad your enjoying the Payless videos, I'm not much of a photographer as my video's attest to but its fun to get them out there and be able to connect with other Railroad modelers!!! Keep checking back as I'm hoping to get another video out on youtube soon. Thanks again, Rich White
@pacbeltrr38

Thanks Rich! I've heard of using Caspian for quite a while now, but haven't tried it yet... Just going by your voice... I could swear you were a younger chap!! 😳 Turns out I'M the kid. 😜 I served during that little Sandbox affair in Saudi and Iraq in 1990-91. Air Force, where we sent our Officers to get shot up!! 😂 In my opinion, one of the best coordinated assaults by ALL the Services together. Still appreciated the Marines though. Even in a push button War, THEY took the brunt of the work. Funny thing, I got blowed up after hostilities in Kuwait, during cleanup. My vehicle hit an early IED.... Don't worry, when I start posting Videos with my old Android, your Camerawork is going to look a LOT better!! 😉 Carmine ✈🚂🚙

@@pacbeltrr38 Thanks for your Service!!! The trees are actually pretty easy to construct. Once you get the trunk carved and painted adding the foliage is pretty easy. Once I get the tree finished I spray it with spray glue and sprinkle on some fine & medium ground foam in a suitable dark green color and that's it. Give one a try!! Thanks, Rich

I just this last week started to cut a set of new walls for a 3 story hotel that I am calling the UNION HOTEL (an old 1890 Brick Structure) which I will sell on ebay along with my other O-Scale buildings. Thanks Alex, in the next video I am going to try to show the Payless Mining Company in operation. On a normal work day from 7am to 7pm the railroad needed to get about 40 Ore loads down to the mill to keep the operation profitable!! Being as the Porter is only able to stay above the steep 6.5% grade it makes a lot more work for the Heisler which meant a lot more moving of ore cars around. Stay Tuned!!

Really stunning detail and scenery work. Thought for a bit I was high up in the Sierras Mtns. Have a question-- your assay office and mill scene looks familiar. Did you do an article for the Gazette way back on your 1st section? I'm in between scales at the moment. I've been fooling around with some templates in O scale for some buildings with the idea of swapping to On30. What you seem to put into a section is pretty encouraging.

Thanks Jack!! Yea the Payless was in Narrow Gauge Gazette back in 1996 the Sept/Oct issue. If you take the extra time and make full scale mock-ups of your buildings or proposed buildings you usually can come up with some really interesting scenes in a small space. My modules are only 18" wide so I had to be careful not to try to jam in too much. Scale out your planned area then place your mock-ups and review it from every angle making small or large adjustments until your satisfied with your scene. Thanks again, Rich White

I have had the Payless in the Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette back in 1996 and also in the On30 annual a couple of years ago. They are just kind of general overview articles nothing as far as sharing techniques. Is there anything specific about the Payless that you would like to know how it was done? Thanks again!! Rich
