Its been a week of controversies as the battle for videogames and wargames rages on, spilling over into rumours that Henry Cavill is threatening to quit the Warhammer 40k series on Amazon. And, predictably, Marvel have decided to blame their recent failures on the usual target - men. Join me, Sargon of Akkad, Grummz and Tyrone Magnus as we discuss it all.

The main thing everyone seems to be overlooking in the recent gaming controversies (be it Stellar Blade or Helldivers 2), is the power Sony wields as a publisher. Stellar Blade can be censored because Sony has the influence over the title as its publisher, a kind of influence they could not wield over Baldur's Gate 3 (which was self-published by Larian). They can demand that Helldivers 2 require a PSN account in a way they could not with other live service games that are not published by Sony.

On the topic of escapism.... That perhaps is why people are so ready with the charge of ‘escape’. I never fully understood it till my friend Professor Tolkien asked me the very simple question, ‘What class of men would you expect to be most preoccupied with, and most hostile to, the idea of escape?’ and gave the obvious answer: jailers. The charge of Fascism is, to be sure, mere mud-flinging. Fascists, as well as Communists, are jailers; both would assure us that the proper study of prisoners is prison. But there is perhaps this truth behind it: that those who brood much on the remote past or future, or stare long at the night sky, are less likely than others to be ardent or orthodox partisans. In Lucas' defense about the prequel trilogy, he didn't want to write or direct them. He'd arranged for Speilberg to do the first one, actually. He wanted to control the plot, finances, and overall creative vision. Pepsi offered a billion dollars on the caveat that Lucas wrote and directed the movies. He's aware that there are better directors, that's why he only directed the first Star Wars movie in the original. He enjoys being an active producer.
@aldunlop4622
@aldunlop4622 Ай бұрын
I've always said Lucas created started Star Wars, but he never really understood it. To him it was just a simple kids movie full of adventure, inspired by the things he grew up with. He thought he'd make one and move on to other stuff. Even his friends like Milius and Spielberg thought it was a bit silly. But Star Wars exploded and became too much for him. He still never got the fact that it didn't just appeal to kids, he just wanted to sell toys. So by the time of the Prequels, the audience had grown up and matured, but still thought of it as a kids show.

because he is trying to improve his image and the way people see him, something he needs given he has provided nothing more than a rough basic tech demo for his "game", a game which is 7-8 years into development and all it seems to do is want to collect more money yet a game has not appeared beyond said tech demo. There are solo devs who have created full games in less time who used Unreal Engine, which is the same thing Mark is using for Em8er. Basically he is trying to be the next Star Citizen, doing little more than offer things that dont exist and wont exist for a looong time and the last time i read an official post from him on the subject, the "money gathering" was not to complete the game but was for some reason needed to start.....yes....another fund raising attempt on Kickstarter. Basically these "loyal firefall supporters" he mentioned have slowly been calling his never ending money raising as a scam and he needs good press. Then also factor in that his initial promise for Em8er was to be a spiritual successor to the game he mentioned, Firefall, something which was used carrot+stick style while collecting funds only for him to later state that, nah, that sounds too difficult and changed what was intended to a sort of Monster Hunter themed game instead. Its basically a mess with a never ending money grab with the slowest tech demo progression to date of any "game" ive seen. Are his points on the current situation and everything talked about in this video valid? 100% yes they are, but while valid, this is still also a popularity seeking exercise to smokescreen & hide the mass comments about his 7-8 year old scam game. just look for recent videos on youtube regarding "Em8er" you will see lots from a looong time ago, all positive with an eventual decline into "yeeeeah its looking like a scam".

Worse moment of the Sequel trilogy is pretty hard to pick one since there was so many bad right away and they just got gradually worse. I think you can only go with the first one that really broke you. For me the ST moment that really broke me was pretty early in TFA; the scene where Rey 'saves' BB-8 from the rival scavenger. There is so much wrong with this scene; the anti-logic of her goals (why does she even intervene to just send BB-8 away again?), the fact she has full conversations with a droid speaking binary without a translator, the way the other scavenger just gives up, the fact after 'saving' the droid she directs him to the very town the other scavenger was going to bring the droid to (thereby dooming it to the same fate she just saved him from for no reason since she had no goal to assist the droid or claim the parts as her own). This scene is so dumb and yet so clearly designed to both make you sympathize with Rey's 'goodness' but also her 'reluctance' it felt like it came out of an assembly line of 'how do we manipulate the audience to fawn for this character as much as possible' and they just added every ingredient they could think of without putting any thought into the implications. After that scene I knew exactly what they were doing so every moment after any scene which Rey was meant to look awesome or sympathetic felt like cheap manipulation.

At least in Robotech, if Hunter had ended up with Minmay, she would have forced him to quit the military. She would have 'quit' her job as a singer. But you can clearly tell the 2 of them aren't happy in Episode #36. It was basically the signs of a bad relationship. Cannot imagine them having a 'happily ever after' having emigrated and living on either the Robotech Factory Satellite or the Robotech Repair Factory. That's assuming they left Earth at all. We can only speculate what the trajectory of Minmay's career after The Macross Saga was over because Robotech is a multi-generational series spanning over 50 years from start to finish. It doesn't follow 1 set of characters (and every attempt to make it do so has been godawful/vapid or just damned terrible). At least 15 years later, she probably still has vinyl being sold (or CD's, because we do see one in use) because Bowie Grant is listening to one and Minmay's songs are something lounge singers can belt out (George Sullivan with Bowie on piano). And more than 20 years after that, Yellow Dancer sings one of her songs at a wedding. And this is on a war torn planet that has not only had most of its cities turned into wastelands, but is under occupation by an alien force.

On the Warhammer show, the whole point is that it's 'NOT' about space marines lol. That's basically a one dimensional setting with not many places to go story wise. The show is about the Inquisitor series Eisenhorn. It is basically a detective story about inquisitors who have essentially limitless authority and hire whoever they want to assemble the most unique talents to bring down the biggest bads hidden throughout the Imperium. The show is not about space marines and definetely not about custodes that never leave Earth... Whoever demanded the change simply saw the interview where Cavil said that custodes are his favorite faction when he's 'playing the game', and said 'A female custodes now! chop chop'

It'd be interesting to hear Sargon elaborate on the "unbelievably well funded" part of what he said about possibility of GW backing off from recent WH40K controversy. I was wondering about that for some time. There's ESG angle, then work with politicians, particularly female ones, but other than that? You somehow have a talk with some hypothetical Bill G. and tell him all about how unhappy you are and how the world needs to change in order to better accommodate your delusions? Great guest selection, very interesting convos, thank you guys!

Damn, I had no Idea so many iconic and well known movies and games came out in 93'. Sure interesting. But I can still remember Jurassic Park when it came out. An absolute bar setter when it came to CGI. And I think it's still the best of the series. Only watched it 7 times in theater though. But that were different times. It still took a lot of time from movies to leap from theaters to your home and VHS was still a big thing.

Fun fact: there's actually a lot of expanded lore for Lion King, including a book where Scar is revealed to be a nickname (surprise) with his real name being Taka. Meanwhile, in The Lion Guard animated show, his name was Askari. Because most of the names in Lion King are Swahili words, I take Taka as more canon because it is "waste" or "want," whereas Askari, while having some meaning, does not seem to tie in with Scar as a character. Regardless, the Mufasa trailer piddled all over the lore with its opening line (no surprise, given the 2019 movie already did that), so they're not going to do it. I'm not precious about expanded Lion King lore, but it is another situation where Disney has the material and is actively choosing to do something rubbish instead. Just like they did with Star Wars and the MCU.

Sargon always gets so close to seeing the woods amongst the trees with his noticing there 'seems' to be a spiritual war. But cannot quite comprehend that the force behind what he acknowledges as Evil is not purely human, because it seizes humans and can exist outside them waiting for a new willing host. These ideas have base, almost Lovecraftian roots deep inside the collective nature of man. And if Evil exists in this immortal, nascent internal form, seeking to manifest itself in the world, then an equal force of Good must also exist that can be called on to fight it.

Timeline is definitely not 2yrs. The 5yr estimate for this shit to be over is likely correct; current pipeline will take time to crap out, but getting rid of talentless hacks with ideological differences that got hired because of their connections to one of those money people in charge takes more time.
