My theory on Howser and the other clones. In the 6th season of TCW Tupp’s chip activated prematurely and not only began to deteriorate, but even fail at times. My guess is that the chips burn themselves out or stop signaling after a time as evidenced by the deterioration shown by Tupp’s chip. We know from Tupp that the chips weren’t as foolproof as intended and that personality can conflict even with an aggressive reaction like Tupp’s. The chips likely use bio-electricity to function, but in order to not harm the clone trooper they can only work this way for a limited period of time before running out of juice and deactivating. In the case of Howser, he has spent years in social and tactical situations that did not favor his programming and thus his brain reinforced his personality over the programming because that is what was being used more often. Considering clones age twice as fast, this means that the brain may actually imbed these behavioral patterns very strongly due to having half the time to reprioritize behavioral patterns, creating stronger opposition to programming the longer a clone lives, especially when living away from organized environments where the programming would be behaviorally reinforced.

Wrecker tried to kill them bc as his chip was activating Hunter and Rex said they help the padawan escape and they also said the words order 66, that why when wrecker attack he said “you are in violation of order 66”

I’ll be honest, I think Crosshair is starting to defect or at least question his loyalty to the Empire. Two reasons for this. One, his burn mark is on the right side of his head, where his inhibitor chip is. Two, when Howzer made his speech about the occupation of Ryloth, Crosshair ordered him to be arrested, instead of taking his head off. He’s done worse for little like executing his own men then executing civies. Lemme know what you think.

Maybe since Howzer is a phase one clone, the other clones that dropped their weapons are also phase one and the ones who took them in are newer clones, with a stronger inhibitor chip? 🤔

Something I noticed when I watched the episode was that the move that Tech used when they were destroying the turbo lasers, was the drift from Star Wars Squadrons. Thought that was pretty cool how they added that

During the meeting between Howzer, Crosshair, and Admiral Rampart at 10:00, I noticed that as Crosshair leaves the room Howzer gets out of his way. And through the episode whenever they looked at eachother it didn’t strike me as angry, maybe this will set up something in the future.

I really was convinced that Hauser was going to get gunned down (is that how you spell his name?) when he decided to confront his clone brothers. It is odd that some clones weren't effected as much as others, but maybe that's because some of them are earlier generations of clones. I believe the bad batch and omega were all referred to as generation 1 clones. Rex was also a gen 1. That explains why Rex had such erratic and weird behavioral dysfunctions like eye twitching and voice shaking when he turned on Ahsoka in that last season of Clone Wars. I think the first generation of clone troopers have seen a massive decay or failure in chip functionality. The kaminoans obviously did not expect clones to survive, nor did they design them to last. They were designed merely to grow up quickly, fight in a war they did not agree to, and die swiftly from blindly following orders like fleshy droids. Kinda messed up if you think about it. So, the clone's chips themselves only have a shelf life of only a few years most likely.

I'm wondering if howzer watching crosshair from balcony is an easter egg to clone wars season 5 episode 4 where general tandin watches king dendup's execution. Both scenes are pretty similar.

There's one small detail you forgot, Hera mentioned that Tech showed her how to scramble a ships signature, something that she does a lot of in Rebels

Here is a crazy theory. At the end when the batch is flying away, crosshairs shoots at their ship and misses. I don’t remember him missing ever before this,. Maybe he missed on purpose. Also, he didn’t shoot Howser. Remember, he killed one of his own team when they didn’t follow orders to kill the rebel children instantly. With Howser lined up in his sights committing treason, he doesn’t shoot him either. Now, he asked to go after the batch. Maybe he is doing so to rejoin them. Pursuing the batch on his own, he will be free to choose between his brothers and the empire. Not following orders would be a death sentence for the clones at this point. Odd that Howser asked his team to join him when they will now likely be executed. It was like, “hey, I plan to be executed, want to join me?” Let’s see if crosshairs’ joins the batch as a horrible purge of clones occurs, maybe he somehow saves Howser while rejoining the batch or if he really is loyal to the empire and missed two shots letting his brothers escape. Either way, some the clones are showing free will and nearly all purged in the next 14 years before Rebels series.

I assume Howzer didn’t have a Jedi General stationed with his platoon at the time so none of them got the order, they were just following orders and believing the empire the same way the entire population believed the Jedi had attacked palpatine. The clones that didn’t follow howzer after his speech were probably worried about the consequences of joining him or just deciding it was safer to stay in the empire, possibly to join him later once it’s safe to do so.

4:38 those "shuttles" are nu class attack shuttles with an extra cargo bay/compartment attached. we see it in the clone wars without that extra cargo container in the clone wars when ashoka gets delivered to anakin on christophsys. and several other times.

ffs. They were discussing "Order 66" & "the Jedi" when Wrecker's chip activated. Trigger words + the knowledge that they let Kaleb go is what caused his hostility. The Order targets force users & anyone who defends them.

I’m loving Rampart in this episode. He seemed like a typical important Empire person that just gets outwitted and gets annoyed, but he showed at the end that he is much more than any of the other’s we’ve seen in a while. The Bad Batch succeeded due to him falling for their distraction. Most others would blame everyone else. Vader would kill the one in charge, the inquisitors would kill everyone involved, most others in his position would find anyone else to blame and very possibly get them killed. Rampart fully accepted responsibility, saying that HE underestimated the Bad Batch. Then he also doesn’t see Crosshair as a failure here just because he failed to stop the Bad Batch as he was the only one to even be in the right place to try. He instead immediately grants Crosshair’s wish to hunt them down, showing he has faith in him and accepted the defeat was not Crosshair’s fault. I really hope he is still in the rest of the series and hopefully remains a major villain throughout, I can see some major potential for him to actually become a very competent admiral and maybe succeed at some point.

15:14 I don't think Wrecker targeted them for a vague 'enemy of the Empire' thing - he did it because they were in violation of Order 66, they saved Caleb Dume and Tech unfortunately brought it up right while Wrecker was losing the battle against the chip's influence, we see this in Season 7 of Clone Wars when Jesse is going to kill Rex for 'detaining' but not executing Ahsoka Tano. Allies of the Jedi are branded necessary casualties by the order as a means of ensuring it is carried out in full.

I think Hunter looking back at Howzer was him thinking about Crosshair. Howzer had the opportunity to abandon his men to save his own life but he chose to stay behind and try to reach them. Hunter can't help but see himself here where he left Crosshair behind. Granted, he really had no choice at the time because Crosshair was trying to shoot them and so were the other troopers. They had to escape. But since they understood what the inhibitor chips did and know that the clones have no choice, Hunter realized that Crosshair is a captive of the Empire. So Howzer staying for his men, makes Hunter think about Crosshair and the possibility of rescuing him.

I'm glad that you explained what this episode was about and what were some detail's and Easter eggs that were in it. I'm really looking forward to see what's gonna happened next in the next episode, also I'm kind of getting the feeling that Howzer might sacrifice himself to save whoever or might get shot by crosshair, oh and I don't know if you noticed but at the end of the episode crosshair made this face. After the speech that Howzer made something got into crosshairs head and I guess he realized that what he was doing was wrong also and I think the reason why crosshair what's to go after the bad batch was to probably talked to them or help them I guess because it seems like crosshair might come back to the light and be with his squad again but we'll have to see in the next episode.

I think the reason Howzer and his men didn't blindly follow orders is because their inhibitor chips were never activated. The purpose behind Order 66 was to kill the Jedi, so if Howzer and his troopers were stationed on Ryloth without a Jedi general, Palpatine would've had no reason to call Howzer. As far as why not all of the clones listened to him, my guess is that they either personally didn't want to take a stand against the empire, or that they were some of the troops that came to Ryloth along with the weapons shipments. Although it's unlikely, it would be really cool if they broke Howzer out of imperial prison and let him join the squad (after removing his unactivated inhibitor chip of course). Just a theory of mine, but I haven't done extensive research about this stuff, so I could be wrong about some things.

I love the Clone Troopers. It broke my heart when they turned on the Jedi in Episode III and in the Clone Wars finale. So it's satisfying to me to see Clones like Howzer reassert their free will.

Captain Rex is still my favorite clone, now Captain Holzer is now my second favorite

I think the reason howzer is disobeying orders is because the initial order of order 66 is so strong that no clone can resist it (this would explain wrecker as he had not yet experienced order 66) but then over time the clones may begin to have stronger control over their thoughts. Also for those who might wonder about crosshair, at the beginning of the show they talk about enhancing his inhibitor chip and they probably made the connection too strong, as evident by the fact that he shot down one of his own soldiers

I actually have a Easter egg u didnt mention: So when Tech and Wrecker was on the Havoc Maruader, the ship went really fast by using this thuster thingy. Then just when the reached the torrent they instantly turned around and Wrecker shot the torrent. This relates back to the beginning of The Last Jedi, when Poe Dameron. Also went really fast and instantly turned around.

I honestly think crosshair will eventually regain his free will, it would be intresting to see his artificial loyalty wear off some point in the series, maybe he could continue to be on the side of the empire for a while but he begins to realise what is happening to him, it could be cool to see a scene of him having his inhibitors boosted again, only to have someone like omega have faith in him, like luke to Vader in episode 6. I think it would make sense for him to regain his freewill, in a narrative sense as well, it would be the nail in the coffin for the clones in tarkins eyes, seeing that their fake loyalty is faltering, either way I want him to be redeemed, it would be cool to watch

Anyone notice how he misses all his shots on the Bad Batch’s ship at the end. Before this, he has hit all his shots and I’m pretty sure that this is the first time that Crosshair missed all his shots. I can guess this also influences him to hunt down the bad batch, as he misses all his shots on their ship so it didn’t go down, but has a part deep inside him that wants to see his brothers peacefully again.

Crosshair fired twice and missed at a slow moving ship... he missed? ...then took his helmet off, and Hunter turned and saw him.... I think Crosshair's chip was damaged when the engine blast hit him...

4:43 looks more like a V-Wing. Shortly after Order 66 they mainly used those as seen at the end of Revenge of the Sith. Precursor to the TIE Fighter as I think both ships are made by Sienar.

This episode is where Hera learned to scramble and change a ship’s squawk code, or ID code from Tech.

One thing I noticed what how after the mission (crosshair hunting down the bad batch) he had a slightly melancholy smile, as if he is fighting against the inhibitor chip and wants to join his brothers. What I think could happen is he hunts them down and ends up joining them, but then crosshairs imperial squad mates will send a message to the empire right before they are killed by the bad batch. This will lead to the Empire being sent the code and we will see them get some even better soldier or droid that’s being told to hunt them down, which will end season 1 and leave the plot open for season 2.

I think the cave was the one we saw in season 3, being used as a forward command post.
