Well I have decided to go down the path of rebuilding this engine. I have found and purchased the following parts: High speed needle, Magnum XL52FS exhaust, and a NIP OS FS48 Surpass crankshaft. Just for fun I am going to attempt TestECull's suggestion of sealing the crankcase with JB Weld. I really do not hold high hopes for this solution, but you never know until you try. I have a wanted ad posted on RCGroups for a replacement crankcase just in case. The crankshaft is shipping from overseas so it will be some time before I get back to this project.

Maybe a complete magnum 52 4 stroke will fit, i've heard some guys upgraded with OS 52 surpass.

I guess I fail to see how buying an entirely different engine is restoring an OS FS-48 Surpass. That makes no sense at all.

Sorry my fault, i wanted to say that some guys upgraded Surpass 48 using Surpass 52 CARBURATOR, and maybe magnum 52 carb could be used too, sorry for the confusion.

I have seen this damage from a hydro locked engine and electric starter. Mounted inverted adds to the likelyhood. There is a reason full size airplane engines are pulled through manually before starting.

I almost wonder if a replacement crankshaft and a little JB Weld would have that thing purring again. Might be worth a try for the science, if nothing else!

Maybe. It still needs the crankshaft, exhaust, and now I see the high speed needle is also missing.

@@dmrcflyr2 I'd almost be up for the challenge myself, honestly. I'd probably convert it to -CX specification and put it in my Mad Crusher, though. Needs a new crank anyway, why not throw the car crank, backplate, pullstarter, cam in it.

Here I am watching in January, 2022 and the parts supply for older OS engines seem to be completely dried up. I had to quit flying for a while due to a major move and have started replacing bearings in all of my engines along with rings in some of them. RMJ Machine is making Bowman rings now and bearings aren't hard to find but anything else for my OS, Supertigre/Como and Magnum engines is hard to find. Fortunately MECOA has parts for my Hirtenberger and K&B engines. If I have to write an engine off as unrepairable I'll hold on to the parts in case someone else needs something.

At 8:41 of this video there is text asking if anyone is needing any parts for their engine. While I might consider this, I am not shipping anything overseas. This was more of a rhetorical question than anything.

This is strictly a suggestion. If you have a Sears store in your area go and buy a T-handle 2.5mm wrench. They are not that costly.

I have plenty of tools, I don't need more. A L shaped wrench provides more lever arm and torque than a T-handle ever could. That is what is needed for breaking fasteners loose, lever arm and torque. T-Handles and straight ground wrenches are used for accessing fasteners at a depth or quickly unscrewing them. So knowing what tool is proper for the specific task is important. If you must know I have ground sets, T handles, and L shaped wrenches. I use what I do for a reason.

Don't give it up. You just need a case and a crankshaft. I rebuild one FS48 after the case cracked. Found one cheap on xbay and made one good engine from These two. I should still have the crankshaft somewhere...

It actually needs an exhaust too. I have found a new crankcase and new crankshaft for $112. I am just not wanting to spend any money on this engine at this time. It isn't worth it to me because I could never recover those costs with the prices glow engines are selling for here in the US.

You just need to wait for a parts offer or defect engine.

True. There are several used FS-48's on eBay right now but the asking price is more in line with what I would pay for a new one. I am in no hurry really.

I guess I don't consider Bondus cheap hex wrenches. If you would like to provide better ones to me then feel free.

I have a saito 80 gold knight that needs an intake manifold and a carby, i also have another one that runs sweet i would love to get them both running but parts are discontinued tried to get parts from all over anyone got any suggestions?

No I don't think it will. Those are two totally different engines. They do not share the same part number either.

why not try to replace the pin and the jb weld the crankcase its currently broken so you cant make it worse would make a fun video

No clone, ASP/Magnum ever made a 48 size engine. the 52 is the closest size. Those cases are nearly as hard to come by as the 48 Surpass.

Yeah, it is too bad. A crankcase, crankshaft and bearings is really all it needs to be made a runner again. Unfortunately those parts are pretty hard to come by.
