23:33 The washer is a spacer to stop the bolt hitting the piston 🤣 I nearly wet myself. That's the cam chain tunnel and the washer is there so it doesn't leak oil. It's not a blind hole, meaning its open to the internals of the engine.

I've never watched anything on this channel, never heard anything about this video series, but I absolutely LOVED watching this teardown and I will anxiously waiting for the next series. Brian is very clear and concise in his explanations, which was AWESOME! I'd love to see him tear down a shaftdrive bike with a single dry clutch, much like a Moto Guzzi something. His knowledge and understanding, along with his ability to explain things is just fantastic.

Love the builds and great videos, Brian is a great mechanic and teacher. He does and awesome job. With that ive got to call him out here.... and I say this with love haha that washer is there as a spacer yes and that arrow yes is there to show you where it goes but with out it, it would never touch the piston it may drive into the cylinder wall and could definitely cause catastrophic faulier but even if jt was long enough you wouldn't be able to drive it through the cylinder wall. Brian knows that for sure and I totally get what he was stressing the fact so hard about, great work fellas you guys are an awesome team I look forward to more videos

had a same 08 fireblade before, i remember once i was shifting from 5th to 6th and got false neutral(which is common on cbr and cb1000r). then i got it into gear again engine had similar noise. i guess could be the same problem inside but i didn't look into that. not long after that i traded that fireblade for a new R1 lol

I have an 08 I rebuilt. I found the same thing when I went to change the clutch after purchasing it. 2 friction discs completely shattered like you foundthere. Also there is a TSB on the 08 clutch. They issued a recall and have an updated part for 09 onward that you are supposed to replace it with.

The (southern) technical term for that clutch is "blowed slap up". I saw worse, once. Back when I was young and the dinosaurs had just died off, a magazine was doing a huge 1/4 mile review of all the big pavement chewers.(Think the then new V-Max) and they had a hired gun drag racer to eliminate as many variables with timing and launches. But after an entire day of launching those beasts over and over, one of the clutches let go. Plates everywhere, hell of a mess. When I saw the plates fall out I was like "that's it boys, no two pieces of this engine are going to be together before this over".

The balancer shaft isn’t about hands, feet and nuts vibrations but harmonics that will destroy the engine and gearbox, reducing foot pegs and handle vibrations can be done cheaper in other ways but just happens to be improved by a balancer shaft

You guys should do a Nova clutch. It's BETTER than oem, they build the wsbk clutches and gears for HRC, and are built to be stronger. On Honda, the 3rd gear is notorious for being weaker, so you want to go after market for that rebuild. Honda builds crazy reliable bikes, the engineers are ok with overbuilding their bikes and that's why it could survive this abuse and still run

I think it may have something to do with stator. And a shar of metal is getting thrown around. If I can remember correctly dident you guys have a hard time starting it at first? watching this vid makes me think twice about shifting without the clutch (no quick shifter) is there any chance of damaging anything by doing clutchless shifting? thought bikes could handle due to being a sequential box
@johnlock2816
@johnlock2816 Жыл бұрын
There's every chance; clutchless shifting is very likely to lead to damage, the dogs can collide with the edges of the dog holes, eventually they become damaged enough that it will jump out of gear, on those affected.

I just found your guys page, so I'll be looking at more videos. I HAVE A QUESTION that I'm getting mixed answers about.... I ride an 02 CBR 600 f4. My EX stole it when we broke up. When I got it back 4 days later there was a hole punched through the bottom of the clutch (area) part of the motor next to the drain plug. Looks like it came from the INSIDE because the grooves from the ripped aluminum tell so. It's about the size of quarter but is along the edge of the housing where the clutch cover meets the block housing. My question is this, IS THIS FIXABLE? Friends that weld say "ABSOLUTELY, BUT ITLL BE TRICKY," then they go into the how's and whys. Other friends say, "yo this is on the engine block, it's trashed..." Saying that I'll never be able to match the machining enough to get the clutch cover to seal properly... BOTH make sense to me. What do u think? REASON IM ASKING, I've since graduated to 1000RR, but LOVE my 600, it was my first so a lot of custom work has been done, paint, lighting, etc. my son just turned 15, has been riding a YZ250 since he was 11 and wants to go with me when I ride. I want to give him my 600 but need to know if this is a fixable issue, where as I'll go out and tear it down WITH HIM and have someone come do the weld, then supervise as HE rebuilds, (wont be his first) Or if this is something that would be best left alone and just purchase a newer engine and swap the, out. Cost about a grand for the engine... I wish I could send pics but if u can visualize an upright motor, reach down and run your fingers along the clutch cover till ur dead center bottom. Now run your fingers forward following the seam where the cover meets the housing go forward about 3" and there's a hole about the size of a quarter right where the cover meets the housing ON THE HOUSING side. So when u remove the cover it looks like someone took a bite out of the housing . Idk guys what do u think

The cause of exploded clutch plates. When the dog ears they drive the basket wear dents inside those slitch in the basket/center hub it causes the plates to snag when the clutch is moving the assembly in and out thereby fracturing the discs. My theory why it happened on my bike anyway. Replace whole assembly with updated part per Honda TBS.

24:20 thats just dumb, how hard could it be to just make that casing that much thicker there? 32:38, also very interesting, that looks 100% more like a car clutch rather than a bike one, almost all bikes have the multi spring system you mentioned previously, or at most they have a pressure equalising plate connecting all the springs together. Curious if you could tell that clutch plate exploded save for noticing its a bit louder
