My Dad would throw down a beating whenever we messed up. However, my oldest sister (by 8yrs) would talk us through what we did, and how it was wrong. I remember I ate my other sister's candy on her birthday and was really mad after my whooping. My sister sat down with me, comforted me, asked me how I would feel if someone ate mine, and reminded me that we don't get presents. That chocolate was our only celebration. I felt really bad, apologized, and understood why it was wrong. So, that's how I raise my kids now. I talk them through and hope they learn like I did. I'm really glad I have a sister like her.

That's awesome, I wish I was closer to my siblings when we were all going through it. I remember one time my dad sent me to my room and I wasn't allowed to eat dinner, and my brother snuck into my room that night to give me something to eat. That always stuck with me.

For what it’s worth, the original author of the book that Jaws is based on ultimately came to deeply regret what that book and the film did to the image of sharks and the massive hunting that followed. He became a huge supporter of shark protections and one of the biggest names in shark conservation efforts afterwards.

My best piece of parenting advice is never betray your child's trust. If they come to you about something they did wrong, don't scold them about it, they will be less likely to come to you next time. Instead, let them know why it was wrong and let them know that if they ever need help figuring things out next time that they can just come talk to you. You can do the same thing if you find out that they did something wrong as well.

100% disagree. I was originally raised by my dad for the first 14 years of my life. He wouldn't always beat me, but there was a lot of yelling, grounding and extra chores, only when I did something horrible like beat up a girl at school did he beat me for it. Only time he ever had to for me to never do that again. That worked amazing, I tried so hard to be a good kid because I understand that there were consequences and he made me understand that among a lot of other things. When he passed away and I was forced to live with my mom, she tried the whole lets talk about it method and never actually punished me, oh yeah I took advantage of that so hard, dropped out of school, drinking and smoking the whole nine yards of nonsense just because I wouldn't get punished for it at all. No actually punish your damb kids. It works.

@@chiaraz Violence? I never said to make your kids bleed. A spank on the butt or a flick to the forehead ain't violence. And yes, my dad showed me consequences and my mom showed none. I only realized after I became an adult what consequences are again and that's a failure on my mom's part. Don't beat your kids for everything but punish them according to the behavior. Don't do chores, no games for a week. Beat up a girl at school or threw a book at a teacher? Spanking. I trusted my dad with my life and that's because he knew when to be my friend and when to be a parent. You should be equally as scared of your parents as much as you love them. Too many parents only want to be their kids friends. Too scared to hear that they hate you. So what if your kid hates you for a week because you grounded them or spanked them? I'd rather my kids hate me then think the world revolves around them which too many of you dumb idiots think it does. And I don't want to hear the "studies have shown that kids respond better to less punishment and more conversation" yea no kidding. No kid wants to be punished, that's the point. You make your kid learn that doing wrong things has consequences and they will hate that moment but they won't do it again because they don't want to feel bad again. Again, not every kid needs to be beaten for everything, but they do need real punishment. Otherwise they have no humility and no sense of punishment. Not until it's either too late because they angered the wrong person being selfish or they get into real legal trouble.

Here’s a sadder story. A girl about 10-11 years old went to a stationary store. The store owner guy claimed that she stole some stuff. She said she didn’t do it but the guy wouldn’t believe her. He posted her picture and info around the block and her school, telling people she’s a “thief”. She couldn’t stand it and to prove herself innocent, she jumped from the rooftop. True story, it’s on our local news.

Okay, showing a child that doing anything bad will result in horrible consequences will either guarantee that the kid will either become completely horrified to do anything outside of what others deem is right abd become a doormat, or they will do their best to literally not tell you about anything from that point forward. In this case to be fair, we don't know how "horrifying" the police was, or the vibe in general. A lot of people seem to immediately imagine a real crime investigation scene being applied to the child, but we could expect a bit of common sense to all the adults involved. If anything, it could've been close to a job experience thing for children. Ofc I don't know exactly what happened, but so do they, and the journalists would truly prefer to omit any positive leaning details for more drama.

@@sechabatheletsane9784 it’s a straight up fact that doing horrible things to someone that could lead to trauma is a pretty bad thing for them, no matter the person. People are different and requires different strategies to get them to stop doing wrong but none of that should be so bad to induce trauma, just because they did something bad like stealing doesn’t give a parent the excuse to do something worse like beating them, that’s just wrong. And given that there are a lot of examples where going to the extreme with punishment is bad pretty much all of the time, I would say even the most different of people don’t like it when their parents which they should be able to confide in and trust most completely break them emotionally, physically and mentally.

@@animesubway7433 Actually at least one youtuber (GrandLineReview) that had them as a sponsor, he says it was clear to him that this was one of those "joke gifts" and didn't think people would take it seriously, but on his second channel (Dude in a room) he addressed the whole situation and mentioned that he was naive or something that he thought everyone would know it was a "joke gift" type of deal, so he actually dropped the sponsorship from them even though it's the only sponsor he had booked for a month or two.

The lecturing thing really works, all three of my older brothers have served time, my Dad used to hit em, yell at em, and give ‘em extra chores when they fucked up. By the time me and my little brother came around he was too tired and just resorted to lecturing our ears off, but neither me nor my little brother have ever been in trouble with the law or really anything else.

i got decent grades, but i was a rascal too, fighting at school, skipping life orientation classes to go to the arcade. I used to get hit with a sjambok which is like a leather whip. It never stopped me even with all the marks and lacerations. All it does is either make kids rebel more or traumatize them for life.

Ratting your kid out to the police and risking a potential criminal record entry over a 5$ cable is some Orwell level stuff. It will only cause your kid to be more guarded and estranged as they now have to worry any little mistake told to parents will lead them to the police, conviction and prison... absolutely a way to ruin a family.

They will only see them in a negative light and would rather seek help from anyone anywhere(if even that with the trust issues they will inevitably receive), except for their parents.

Such a weird experience. Even more weird was the fact that I saw him AGAIN about 2-3 hours later after I got to my Airbnb. Went to get dinner and he walked past me again. Small world.

Honestly, I have less sympathy for the 15 year old. I get teens make ridiculous decisions sometimes, but imo, I'd expect a HS student to know better. If it was my kid, I'd do what I could to save them from having an experience with the cops. Still, I would understand the business calling in law enforcement. Even if the item wasn't that expensive. The 6 year old child on the other hand was just wrong on so many levels. Erasers cost nothing and she's just a child. The boys said only in Japan, but I could see this happening in America too. Under the right circumstances, 100% would happen here too. Even if not done by police, I believe some parents would be all for this. Edit: To clarify, I'm not all for calling in the police on a minor. Also when I was speaking about an "experience with the police" I was not implying minors should be roughed up or traumatized. I was referring to any interaction with law enforcement even if nothing eventful happens. I would do everything I could with the business and the officer to plead the minor's case. Especially if this was the minor's first and only offense. Still, I stand by expecting more from HS students. You just don't always get away with theft. Sometimes people will insist you pay for your mistakes even if you're a minor.

As a babysitter, I honestly feel like lecturing kids every time they lie has only made them better liars. I lied to my parents like twice when I was a child and they believed me without questions, but the overwhelming guilt I felt afterwards has forced me into becoming an honest adult.

My mom traumatized me by being very angry and shouting and silent treatment after that, she would never say sorry so I never knew if she was still angry. It was a lot of walking on egg shells when I was a kid.

I don't buy new clothes until my clothes are basically unwearable. I've worn the same shirts and jeans for basically my entire adult life which is about 12 years now. I buy shirts more often because they are like graphic tees, but I won't throw them away until I've worn holes in them. I just can't justify wasting money like that.

I'm with Garnt on the clothes problem. plus i save some clothes for special occasions like a holiday or convention. so they just sit on a hanger for months every year, get worn very briefly, washed, then back on the hanger it's the generic daily stuff i cycle through regularly also to answer Connor's belt problem: get the elastic ones that are braided. mine last me years even though they don't look stylish at all. the black belts in particular manage quite well just because you wouldn't notice they're the braided kind at a glance 2:04:03 poyo?

One of my co workers accidentally gave out our law firm’s trust banking details to a scammer who said they were from Chase bank. They had partial info and they were ‘trying to verify’ details and she fell for it. We felt so bad for her and our poor attorney had to go down to the bank to get all the money moved before they drained it. I heard the call and knew something was wrong and ran to our attorney to tell her 😂 she ran to the accounting girl and was like “Hang up now!😮” we got it sorted but man it was a day at the office lol

Regarding parenting methods, once I slammed the door to my room shut really really hard because I for some reason had gone angry at my mum. I went to play with the neighbour and when I got back, my mum head deadass just taken the door off the hinges 💀 She said I wasn't responsible enough to have a door if I was gonna slam it that hard. One of the first lies I remember (my mother saw me do it through the window), I cut holes in my sister's playpen with my new kindergarten scissors. I told her a monster claimed out of the toilet and did it.... as an adult, I'm expecting my first born and my mother want to buy me a crib and all the things I need. She tell me she didn't have a crib for my sister, she slept in the playpen... I ruined my sister's bed! I feel even worse about it now than when I was originally caught

Just discovered Kitboga this week as well. Don't really think that's an easy 8-hr stream as the man has to setup fake websites to make him being scammed much more believable. Appreciate the dedication, love his impersonations, and being able to make two scammers fight against each other in a rap battle is an achievement that is beyond the realm of believability, and yet there he was being the grandma judge of it.

Easy 8 hours as in you have long form content in mind, not necessarily whether it’s easy to accomplish or not. Especially for casual streamers like Garnt, coming up with stream ideas aside from gameplay is quite a challenge.

fun fact: Back when TLC first started, it was actually a learning channel, similar to Discorvery Channel. They even had a show that showed actual surgeries happening with surgeons explaining what they were doing during the procedure. It was only later when they realized they were gonna go under that they started branching out and eventually become the chaotic mess it is today lol

I remember when internet chat rooms on phones was a big thing before social media. I had a 20 euro balance on my phones, so when you use 20 euro worth of data, minutes or texts, it shuts down and you can use your phone again next month. With some settings on my phone I got to bypass that and was using internet on my phone even past my balance amount. Month later my mom got a phone bill of 800 euro and gave me the biggest lecture of my life.

Finding the right way to discipline is probably the hardest role for me as a parent. I want to be fair and make sure they understand why what they did is wrong. But I am also young and still learning, so I try to lead by example and have told them that if they feel I am being unfair or hypocritical that they can bring it up so we can discuss it and try to work it out together.

If you have children, you aren’t young anymore. I don’t have any children but grew up taking caring of them even when i was a child and i got quite good at it. The trick is that you lead by example , because no matter what you say if you act different they will eventually make out the fact that you aren’t acting what you are preaching. And another big point alot of people overlook : Kinds are not dumb they are just uneducated, people often treat kids as if they are unintelligent and tend to treat them more akin as spoiled pets. Just treat them as their own person and lead by example and you should be fine and you have to be a stern rolemodel.

1:01:28 Fun story - I remember getting my first phone (a flip phone) just because of that my parents didn’t know I was at a friend's house and they had no way to contact me or vice versa. The thing that broke them was that I fell asleep while my parents and brother were out of the apartment, the catch is that I had locked the door because we lived in a five floor block of flats and safety and stuff. So apparently I was in such deep sleep that I didn't hear their knocks on the door and they had to stay at our neighbours until I eventually woke up.

I remember one time I stayed up too late on a school night playing Minecraft on a call with my cousins, and she had gotten really mad at me for not being responsible and looking at the time. But instead of yelling at me or any of that, she made me stand in front of her bedroom doorway and made me listen to her lecture. Mind you- it was past my bedtime already so I was about to leave for bed when she forced me to stand up and listen to what she had to say. I got so tired I considered sleeping on the floor but I guess she felt really bad and let me go to my room lol.

I know what you’re talking about with places being way more crowded recently. I went to Nara 3 times during the pandemic and there was hardly anyone and all the Deer were a lot more spread out than usual, coming up to the city hall and near the station. I went back the month after opening and there were tourists everywhere and it took a bit of walking to the main tourist spots before I even saw any Deer 😂 and also Namba, it was so peaceful shopping there during the pandemic but I went on Saturday and I could barely move in literally every shop I went to! Was crazy haha.

Getting scammed sucks, but phishing is another huge issue. Even just today, I accidentally clicked on a honeypot link in an email our school sends out (the instant I clicked the link, I just closed the tab and thought to myself "shit, now I'm going to get pestered to do training"). Worst part is that once one phishing attempt is successful, all of the sudden emails can be sent to you from within the network and as such, everything looks even more convincing. I heard of one story how one scammer, after getting access to an internal email, setup a fake parking portal and started emailing people to pay their parking fines that they had received.

My parents taught me not to lie because they'd always say that if I told the truth when I'd done something bad, they wouldn't be as angry / disappointed, so one day I told the truth and that day they told me off less than usual and then thanked me for telling them the truth, now as an adult I absolutely hate lying to people and I try to avoid it as best as I can.
