Hi there. Great information. Glad you are living the dream. I have a 4x4 Mitsubishi Canter and yes it has the guards protecting the CV boots. We put extended springs in the front to give a better ride and recently genuine sheepskin seat covers which makes the seats more comfortable for longer periods of travel. I love my truck and can't wait to go full time touring. Thank you for the videos.

You always do a great job guys, so we'll keep giving you those thumbs up 🙂 A nice balanced long term review of the truck and the modifications to it. We've got the guards on our CV boots, but I'm going to improve the level of coverage they provide as they are not perfect by any means. We'll be interested to see the video on your recovery gear. Our truck has a hydraulic PTO winch and it's great for saving batteries, not so great if for some reason the engine is out of action and you need the winch! No plans in our future for a van and life on the road in one, but perhaps an additional review of your van might be good for others who are thinking along those lines. Looks to be a nice spot to spend time in lockdown, here's hoping you get back out on the road sooner rather than later. As soon as I catch up on a couple more things here I'll send some more reading material for those quiet nights. Safe stay, take care, A&J

I was able to get 2 scheel mann seats in mine with some modification and custom mounting plates. It requires making a new lid for the engine access but it's totally worth it.

I've seen on tractors the bottom step using cable drops welded. That way if it hits it flexes out of the way. Cheers from Northern California!!!

G'day Karl, with regards to the canopy doors you could try wrapping gaffa/cloth tape around the pins of the doors so there is insulation from metal rubbing on metal.

That was a well thought out review, thanks. I wasn't aware you were having issues with the fuel caps leaking. My first thought was that when your braking, the fuel is splashing up under the caps as the filler necks are both at the front of the tanks. Maybe a neck extension or a remote filler neck, this would further the cap from the fuel, reducing its potential to splash and leak. Just an observation, take care and enjoy those lovely avocados!!!

Gday mate, just a quick comment regarding the boots. I used to work at as an isuzu dealership and dealt with a lot of station vehicles who were rough as on the gear. Seen a few people use a bit of lay flat hose mounted to the hub then hose clamped around the housing, just ensure you have the full range of motion but seems to work well

With the accessory batteries powering the winch, if they're deep cycle lead acid I have an idea high rate discharge will injure them. With the snorkle, I have heard the genuine design greatly assists air flow, however that's not much help with a guts full of water. It strikes me there are a lot of joins in the clean air tubing, unless cracking is an issue a one piece may be better. And maybe mount the air filter assembley on the roof, we used the Donalson precleaners even on the primemovers, look uncool but they work well. Good review, Ive found Isuzu to be the best value for parts but inflexible on warranty, I'd still buy another one but of couse nothing is perfect.

The main reason I went for a Hino instead of an Isuzu (or Mitsubishi) was due to the flexing door problem, which Hino does not have due to the mirrors being further back on the door.........did not know the fix was so easy...lol....thanks for the tip.

If your still concerned about intake leaks. While the engine is running, spray WD40 around potential leaks before the turbo and the engine speed will increase if it is passing into the engine. After the turbo, while the engine is running spray soapy water around suspect leaks and it will create bubbles at the leaks. I'm not familiar with the following but for the swivel hub boots maybe make and secure a heavy rubber mud flap on the tie rod to offer some protection. Could also investigate a metal but has potential to do additional damage if it comes off.

Karl, that was a brilliant no BS description of things, as usual you teach me new things every time. I had no idea the air filter housing had that one way valve underneath. When I'm able to do so, I intend to check out a retired CFA, NPS 300 which had as standard, a waterproof air intake fitted. I understand all (or at least some) of the CFA NPS 300 units were fitted with these as part of their fit out. CFA is Country Fire Authority, which is Victoria's volunteer fire brigade for those unfamiliar with the acronym. I too have worried about the front rubber boots on the CV joints. We changed our seats to Stratos units, in our single cab chassis version. My missus needs to have a duck board under her feet on the passenger side, because, as you mentioned, these seats are higher up. She too is quite short and she was adamant that she would not be able to operate the pedals and even sat in the drivers seat showing me her feet were just at the wrong angle and we had made a big mistake. Well, her first drive on some dirt track was a revelation; couldn't wipe the smile from her face. If ever we meet up, you can check our seats out.

Agree 100% with the air intake. The canters are the same. Not a snorkel 🤿

Am loving this series (watching the Truck Information video series), and using it for inspiration and research on whether to go down a similar route (I love the idea of truck + caravan). Question for you - what is the licencing requirement for this combination? Is it LR (Light Rigid), or MR (Medium Rigid)? Looking at the Isuzu NPS tech sheet for the GVM and GCM, this appears to be LR?

Raise your axle vents high as you can,or put vents into your snorkel tube ,tap into snorkel tube above seat height,keeps dust out of axle housings,axles that become submerged cool off causing a vacuum effect pulling water into housing ,ruining lube!!!

AMT gearbox I work for a major transport company......... which I will not say they have had big problems with them around the 100 thousand kms. You will hear a grinding nose when it's in first. The doors leak when it rains . There a great truck to drive, great motors . Seat you can get both seats air rides. Transport company get the seat changed..

A truck's a truck 🚚 put accommodation on the back and four wheel drive it's still a truck. 😂

Nice review after a year on the road. Maybe Lithium batteries might be be an option for the truck. they have a big cranking rating and might be better for the 24v winch and about a third the weight.

I think with all your canopy latches you would be best to get some plastic bushes made. Yes they would wear but easy to replace. Metal on metal is always going to wear

Why did you go with the AMT rather than the manual ? Good to hear the upgraded transmission cooler is working out. Is this in addition to the standard cooler or did you reroute the cooling straight to your aftermarket one. BTW nice detailed review.

Good insight, I've been playing with the idea of a truck, leaning towards Isuzu. I'm guessing you compared this truck against a canter and a hino, what made you go Isuzu? The iveco looked good until you see what owners say about them

Try snow chains it might sound stupid but you will be surprised how far you can go better than a locker but when you use the two together you'll be very surprised

We have these in the NSW RFS. They are prone to cracked frames, burnt clutches and the very bouncy ride. The auto version is much better.

Why not ask a upholstery to redo your seats. We have done this with our Fuso and they are now great to sit in all day. (not cheap but worth it)

How do you find the truck when towing? Im considering one to tow a large boat (about 3t). I know it's fine for weight load and the gearing but i cant find any reviews on how it performs when towing significant weight on the back

Goodride = China Toyo = Japanese company. May or may not be all made in Japan but the blend and construction would be according to Japanese specifications (subject to bending of the quality instructions which is known to sometimes happen compromising the original construction instructions if made outside Japan). But I think by the above you would get the drift of why the Toyo's are performing better.

Just curious, your voltage issue when operating the winch - engine off or running ?

The front diff might be tricked into locking by a light application of the brakes while the wheel is spinning. The original Hummer had auto diff lockers that could be locked this way.
