This was another excellent fossil hunting trip with a bunch of friends. Derek invited us all down to hunt a creek location he found a while back that has a very unusual fauna of marine vertebrates from an unusual time period. This creek has a bunch of fossils in it that I have never found before, and may even have some scientific importance as well. We also found something very odd in the creek. Papers wrapped up and tied together with a strange repeating message over and over.

The flowers are Alpinia zerumbet, or shell ginger. You actually do see them all the time living in florida. Leaves are often variegated. The flowers are often hidden beneath. Seriously, look around foundations of commercial buildings like banks and doctor offices.

I really envy your knowledge of fossil beds in the South...my parents lived in FL for thirty years after they retired, and I had no idea. I've always loved fossils and rocks and minerals. I wish I had known there was such fossiliferous plenty near me when I visited with my parents, and I was 35-40 years younger. I'm 65 now and have some mild health problems that prevent me from walking far. Do you or any of your commenters know of those places where geode nodules just fall out of the banks of creeks? I think there are some in S. Indiana and Kentucky that are within range, and I can still wade up a creek. Thanks! Have a good day, all y'all.

The scroll is a vodoo spell of sorts. Sanitaria also do this. The Vodoo priest will have someone write their wishes on a scroll and tell them to bury it or throw it in the water. Many years ago I was visiting New Orleans. I was metal detecting and found one in a jar with a metal lid. It had a piece of paper wrapped in a silk scarf. It was written much the same way over and over again. As I unwrapped the scarf there were 7 coins from the Caribbean. I put it back.

I was watching you find Agates in KY. What you were finding were Indian sculpture. If you pay attention to detail you will find evidence of carving. They are story rocks and have a great amount of fine art completely covering most pieces. Some are not finished. The finished sculptures have directional artwork that is best viewed by firelight or around sunset. The multiple holes are eyes and many are drilled to a deeper layer for the color change or the crystal reflection. It is better known as Portable Rock Art.

Hey brother, I used to bounce around all over the place when I lived in G'ville as a young man. Quarries and springs were involved when not surfing. Found some cool teeth and stuff down there. I'm in N. Georgia now for last 30 yrs, I go metal detecting a lot, just found a men's shaving razor dated 1912 yesterday. Have you tried detecting?

@@TheBlackSheepDiaries I did years ago with my sons cheap metal detector found some old Peterson shotgun shells in the woods behind my house also when we got back to Florida on vacation I tried it on the beach but it was just a cheap detector. Found mostly trash. A good metal detector is on my shortlist of toys to get especially when we move back to Florida I want to do a lot of beach detecting along with under water detecting with scuba gear. My biggest past-time now is photography. Hope all is well with you in these times!

@@JamesSmith-wy7zk I want to do underwater detecting too. I fly fish on the Hooch near Buford Dam a good bit, always seeing folks tip over in canoes and kayaks and loose everything. I've read somewhere that cold water makes folks drop a ring size in the fingers, probably lots of value hanging out on the bottom of the river. Photography is great, always seeing incredible stuff out in the woods and will snap shots sometimes, but usually let it go and keep moving, regretting it later. Hope your doing well too and good luck on getting back to Florida. Might like one I've got up here at my place called hawk vs snake, a crazy scene I came across while detecting. Take good care.

2:01 Awapuhi Ginger. The flowers can be crushed and used for incredibly great smelling bush shampoo!
@redeyestones3738
@redeyestones3738 3 жыл бұрын
That is ginger, but not awapuhi. There are several different kinds of ginger. The one in the video is called shell ginger. Awapuhi rarely grows over 3 feet tall, and the flowers are separate from the rest of the plant. The flower pops out of the ground on its own, and grows underneath the foliage. As far as I know, Hawaii is the only place awapuhi grows wild. It is farmed in other places as well, but only endemic to Hawaii. The flowers can be squeezed for their juice. You can use the juice as shampoo, or skin soap. It leaves hair and skin incredibly soft, smooth, and smelling fresh.
