All effort is inefficiency. Don't conflate subjective effort with objective effort. All of the greatest artistry and sportsmanship is done with effortless flow of consciousness. Though the body may be in incredible exertion, the consciousness if not identified with it experiences blissful peace in the midst of such action. This is even accepted by mainstream science and often labeled the "flow state." You've experienced this state before in your life; everyone has, even if for brief moments. Remember when you were a child and frolicked around endlessly ENJOYING the expending of energy? That state was not dependent on your physical youth, but rather the the purity of no-mind which every child is naturally born into before it becomes clogged with conditioned, compulsive, programmed conceptuality that not only wastes energy and attention but incites conflict within and without. The sage regains the innocence of the child while forgoing the child's naivety because of the wisdom that comes from experiencing and transcending suffering. There's a time for mind and there's a time for no-mind. Mind = conceptual thought synthesized from imagination or memory that shrouds and distorts naturally unbiased awareness. This shrouding and distortion, however, is only problematic if you are not conscious of it because you identify with your thoughts. If you are disidentified from the body-mind complex the mind is a wonderful tool for creativity and problem-solving in the relative plane of the manifest world. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with thought: it is identification that is at the core of all suffering, and secondarily suffering causes fear which further causes violent compulsive action of self-protection labeled “evil” by those who do not understand the cause. Hitler himself was nothing more than awareness that fearfully identified with a part, forgoing the whole. There is no intrinsic evil or malice anywhere. Stop siding with anyone or anything and take it all in. Your ego wants to take credit for the activity of your body-mind after-the-fact but not for the activity of the external world: but are you not observing both arising spontaneously from nothing? Therefore, what is the difference between the two? Any differences between manifested objects are merely perceptions that occur within the unified field of consciousness. It is the invisible and infinitely fillable container of awareness that remains constant while its contents appear and disappear. If you identify with the field itself, you are at your center: enlightened: home. If you identify with appearances you naturally are afraid of disappearing, because whatever appears must disappear. You don’t appear: you’ve always been here. Wake up, you are me! Where do appearances come from? That is the great mystery of the absolute: but you sure as hell aren’t doing any of it. This is the ultimate humility but also the freedom from responsibility: you aren't the doer. Everything appears to you from nothing, nowhere...Thought included. When you stop identifying you stop excluding and naturally include everything, and then are effortlessly and blissfully peaceful, happy, loving, creative, productive, ALIVE, and a force for good in this world because you side with the entire universe and cease creating unnecessary conflict by taking sides with only a part. It is the very act of identification with the part and not the whole that causes fracture/division/conflict/violence/"evil". God's love is limitless precisely because it is impersonal. You are that. Even attachment to ego and, more deeply and subtly, the body itself, comes from the love of oneself. It's just that love only applied to part of the universe implies hating the other parts, whereas loving everything equally is the natural capacity and nature of consciousness. Paradoxically, although you naturally love everything, you cannot hate everything, because hate requires exclusion. If you include everything you come to love. If you exclude everything you come to love. The problem is not hate: the problem is partiality. You perceive your thoughts, emotions, body, and the external world. This is a fact. Who are you then? More accurately, WHAT are you? You are the one who witnesses it all. You prove the unity of everything by the very fact that you perceive all of it. To think otherwise is simply delusion, and to act under the assumption of a delusion will lead to frustration and stagnation of the natural flow of consciousness. Nevertheless, no matter how painful the worst torture, the deepest depression, the most terrifying fear, or the most nauseating anxiety: the moment you realize your true place you come out of it completely unstained. Even the worst pain is experienced exquisitely perfectly as itself, and vanishes the moment you stop identifying with the person it is directed towards. The division of your person and the external world is a mirage projected by your discriminating mind. It is useful to know the difference between an apple and a hand grenade, but to know yourself you must drop discrimination entirely.
