Paper Chromatography :-
Chromatography is used to separate mixtures of substances into their components. All forms of chromatography work on the same principle. They all have a stationary phase (a solid, or a liquid supported on a solid) and a mobile phase (a liquid or a gas).Paper chromatography is used to separate colored chemicals or substances. It is primarily used as a teaching tool, having been replaced by other chromatography methods, such as thin-layer chromatography. In paper chromatography, the stationary phase is a very uniform absorbent paper. The mobile phase is a suitable liquid solvent or mixture of solvents. Solvent is introduced at the bottom of the chromatographic chamber and allowed to move upwards by capillary action.
This video explains how to separate the coloured components present in (a) mixture of red and blue inks and (b) extract of spinach leaves by ascending paper chromatography and find their Rf values.
