For anyone annoyed that OP gave his old abusive family money, that’s what trauma does to you. I wish his adopted family had gotten him therapy because sadly there was always going to be a part of him hoping his bio family would accept him, hence why he kept even giving them the time of day. Was it stupid? Yes. But hopefully now he truly has learned his lesson and stays away from those toxic jerks forever.
@TheLongVigil2 ай бұрын
Given how he talked about how poor they were growing up, Therapy was probably never an option for them. That would have been extremely expensive, and they barely managed to get him into school. I do enjoy that they essentially said 'You can do it if you want, but be careful' Kinda implying that they might have let him fall down and feel the pain of hitting the ground once so that he would learn immediately that doing it again would be a bad idea.

Forgiveness helps sure but blindly forgiving them is doing injustice to yourself and your soul which was traumatized by them. Forgiving abusers is not always the best thing to do, rather hold them accountable and set a line before actually forgiving them for their unremorseful and abusive actions. If you are feeling bit resentful, you might as well make life harder for them, I would do that but that's just me.
@Keiji5552 ай бұрын
I will disagree, as there is a difference between forgiving, and being a doormat. Forgiving would be to let go of the negative feelings towards someone, and not letting them live in his head. Being a doormat would be to return to the abuse. How do I know? I dealt with major issues with extended family, and shit so bad it could make someone spin. I spent a number of years just angry at them, that I only ended up wasting that time on nothing, but being a leech. It took me years to realize that I couldn't just stay where I was, so I had to let go, and move on, so that way I didn't have to live angry and resentful. I forgave them, but I've never called them back. I have no interest to, and I don't need them. Just because someone forgives another, doesn't mean they have to become a doormat. There's a difference between Harlequin from Batman "forgiving" Joker and constantly going back to his abuse, and Mary Jane Parker forgiving her narcissistic father who lived in California, and returning to live with her husband Spider-Man and never even bothering to see him ever again.

Damn I was almost forced to give up my baby, simply because the father was psycho, controlling possessive and abusive and valued the fetus as an object and wanted it dead over having no control over it. I had him put in jail after the final beating and only left for the survival of the child, and then my sister and family started pressuring me for abortion, and knowing that my ex would eventually come out of jail, I tried planning out going to women's shelters and mind started to think I wasn't gonna make it on my own long term and finally had to consider adoption. But because this was days after that attack my body couldn't handle the stress and I lost it. I lost my mind too, would've done anything to keep that baby, just didn't know that evil man would be the one I'd conceive my first with. Sometimes parents don't want to give up their kids and would risk everything to keep them and it sucks that they did this to you over a petty stupid thing like "Oh I don't want a boy." This sucks, and ironically, it's similar to what happened to one of my friends (except they disowned her when she was 14). She's Indian (to give some cultural context, but disclaimer: not all Indians are like this), and they were very upset when they realised they gave birth to a girl. The constantly tried to hide her, but my country's policy is it is a legal requirement for kids to attend school until they are 16, so she had to go to school. They tried their best to disrupt her homework and keep her at home without being allowed to visit friends etc. When they found out at school she wanted to be an engineer, and was getting better grades than her older brother was when he was in her year level, they tried to pull her out of school. When she refused and became oppositional, not doing as she was supposed to at home etc they disowned her. One of our other friends' family took her in, raised her, helped her with schooling and practically became her parents. She didn't want to be a burden on them and became self-sufficient, moving out when she graduated high school, and is now in her last year of studying engineering. She is doing a final internship and has a position waiting for her when she graduates. Times are tough here (my country is about to enter a recession, and some measures such GDP per capita say we're already in a recessions) and so her brother lost his job. They contacted her for the first time since disowning her just over 10 years ago and asked if she could help him get a job at that company. Or if not, if she could send him money since he's struggling to provide for his SAH wife. My friend is different though- she said "might as well call another stranger and ask the same thing", hung up and blocked them and other numbers from extended family that continued to try to call her for the next few weeks. She says she's just repaying them back for the past 10 years and said in 10 years time she'll consider helping them, but she's sure they won't need her in 10 years time.

Find you a girl who you like enough that you’ll watch Bravo with her and who loves you enough she’ll be an extra player for board game night without complaints. If OP wants to help their egg and sperm donors, he should tell them he'll do it under these conditions: 1. To pay back the money they want to repay from the friends they borrowed from, he'll write each one a check if they tell them WHY they kicked him out in his presence to ensure honesty. 2. His sisters' education will only be paid with him present to ensure he only gives the exact amount to pay it and nothing else.

So they adopted him in their 30s when he was 6, and when he was finishing the school, about 12 years later, they were too old and weak.

I paused at that point and was all, "Hold up! 40's isn't old and weak."

ITT people who don't know what forgiveness really is. Forgiveness is not letting someone off the hook who has wronged you and letting things continue as they are. It is purely for your own state of mind and your own healing. It means letting go of the vile emotions that go with someone abusing you, someone taking advantage of you, someone just wronging you. Letting go of those emotions helps YOU. A person who did you wrong does not feel those emotions you have for them. They do not care about those feelings you have for them. Your hating them doesn't hurt them at all. Letting go those hurtful emotions is for YOU and you only. You can do all of that without letting that other person back into your life. You can heal while not having anything to do with that person. You can forgive but you don't forget and create your future without them accordingly. 🥰

OP’s parents: Son, you’re adopted. OP: Okay… Who are my real parents then? OP’s parents: We are your real parents. Now go pack your stuff, your new parents are gonna fetch you in two hours.

Harming your sisters for something that isn't their fault, even as a kid is super messed up. For that alone I say I have no sympathy for anyone in that family, including OP. Beeing abused is no justification for abusing others

Im rather shocked child services weren't called on the parents for the abuse. Hell even the school should of taken notice and done somthing

Me and husband also gamers, we met through MMORPG. The furthest we ever got with cheating was me with my husbandos and him with the cat. I also call the cat his mistress. Recently she disappeared for quite sometime only to come back to drop her 4 kittens on us and expect me to adopt them. The nerve.

that insane friggin abuse in the first story. being forced to dress as a girl, being bullied for it, then abandoned because he lashed out...

Instead of giving them money, you should have sued them for all the damage they did to you as a kid, people like your parents must face consequences for their actions.
