In the bowling department Harshal Patel got a similar treatment as DK did in the batting department. He was backed as a death overs specialist leading upto the world cup; was handy with the bat, and also bowled a 5 run penultimate over, which led to India successfully defending the target in a warm-up game vs Australia. However, he was suddenly discarded from the XI for the entirety of the tournament.

100%. We were too afraid to fail and that showed in our team selection. All players were good but were they good for the role they were assigned! You can share your findings directly to BCCI. Hopefully they will see it and use some data analytics to select team, given that we will have data for nationals as well rather than only IPL. Having said that, from where did you download your data from? :P

I think the reason Bhuvi bowled up front was due to the swing they were getting in the first 4-6 overs. Match conditions should be considered in this analysis.

Well I agree with those charts on the potential of the bowlers but India tried most of the bowlers who have great stats on respective phases of the game. They did not play in the world cup matches just because of their own performances leading upto world cup. Avesh Khan had only one good game and was really expensive. He had an economy of 13+ in death. Harshal came after the injury and he didn't pick many wickets and got smacked at the death too. Bhuvi was brilliant at the powerplays but couldn't execute at the death. Chahal was really expensive in the middle and provided no batting value. Prasidh Krishna, Deepak Chahar got injured. I don't think the team management could have done anything better on the basis of information they had before World Cup.

India erred on the side of defense rather than on aggression. Had Chahal played in place of Ashwin or Axar, would have meant more potent bowling attack at the cost of slightly less batting.

One interesting aspect re the bowling is that the SA and AUS T20I series that India played in the lead up to the WC were both very high scoring. Hence more wicket-taking players (like Chahal and Harshal) got hammered while the defensive options (Ashwin and Axar in particular) managed to thrive, which is why they perhaps made the cut. I think it was a reasonable enough selection but perhaps did not take into consideration the slower decks like Perth, where one more attacking bowler might have helped.

Jarrod your Analysis is good but Form is a factor as well. Bhuvi's death bowling in 2022 T20i's was terrible. Presidh, chahar were injured. Avesh khan had 2-3 bad series before world cup (England, asia cup). Selectors and captain could not have done much better. I agree though DK should have played semi final

I think it might be worth taking a look at the asia cup where harshal and bhuvi absolutely got blasted in the death. I think thats one of the reasons why bhuvi wasnt used in the death despite, on paper, being a better death bowler than shami and harshal not getting picked. Honestly, the bowling issues this world cup, apart from the non-selection of yuzi, was just down to bad luck. Harshal being out of form, jaddu and bumrah getting injured and three of the top strike bowlers are suddenly out.

There is a pattern occuring especially in T20 world cup knockouts.. from 2016.. all matches in semi finals and finals are being won by team batting second. The last time a team batting first has won a knockout game was in 2014 world cup semis when Srilanka beat WestIndies. So in number terms, last 11 knockout matches ( 2 in 2014, 3 each in 2016,2021 and 2022 ) have been won by team batting second. This pattern shows that team batting second is having advantage. Jarrod Sir.. please make a video analysis on this.

Great analysis however when the part about Bhuvi being a great death bowler used to be true however isnt that applicable. If you compare all editions of IPL you are mostly talking about Indian wickets where slower balls/ wide yorkers help but not so much in the last WC T20 which was in Australia and Bhuvis performance leading upto the WC which included Asia Cup and the bilaterals at home, they really were not convincing to be given a go ahead in Australia.
@RR_theproahole
@RR_theproahole Жыл бұрын
I agree with what you said but they didn't have much options, if not Bhuvi then who? Because you only have guys like Krishna or Malik or Avesh who can "potentially" be great in Australia because they are fast, they hit the pitch and get bounce, but you don't put them in a world cup team just based on potential, you need them to play in Australia and prove themselves and BCCI missed a trick there that India did play a lot of T20Is before WC but they were not in Australia and that was one big reason that our bowlers weren't familiar with the conditions. I think it's a right time for them to start sending young players to foreign leagues because they don't get chances in senior team and all they get is IPL and domestic cricket and that means they play in Indian conditions year round and don't get much experience of conditions in Australia or England or South Africa.
@1305sarthak
@1305sarthak Жыл бұрын
@@RR_theproahole I agree to your points too bro, I was just saying that why India didnt trust bhuvi at the death in this WC, India just didn't have any options this time around so they had to go back to him. And as much as we want Indian players to play foreign leagues I don't think that'll happen anytime soon. Especially if Indian T20 performance is looked at once in 2 years because we keep winning bilaterals and we have very short memories

India is playing so much cricket with too many different squads that when it comes time for the ICC Tournaments they just about end up building a manageble squad but that squad has never played together... Ever. It even came to a point in 2021 where they had different playing XI for each match , whether ODIs or T20s. Add IPL to that where each Indian player plays for a different team playing a completely different role than what he plays for the National side.

Why can't India send 2 teams to the World Cup ? New Zealand with a population of 5 million gets to have a representation of 11 players and INDIA with 1.4 billion people also gets the same representation. 🤔 I mean how is this fair ?🙄 And where is this rule written that one nation can have only one team ? Going by this dumb logic had the partition of 1947 not happened, there would be 2 less teams in international cricket today. 😅 Just imagine if European Union 🇪🇺 was one country then the entire Europe would have only 1 team playing in the FIFA World Cup. 🙄 You can't compare INDIA to other small countries. INDIA is 1/6th of humanity. INDIA is a continent in itself. (Same goes for China) Indian players have to play under a lot of pressure. Firstly the pressure of expectations of the fans of this cricket mad nation and secondly the pressure of being in the team when there is an equally talented and deserving guy sitting out. No other country's players have to go through this kind of pressure. So the only way to reduce this pressure is by sending 2 🇮🇳 teams to the World Cup. Just imagine 2 Indian teams in two different groups of the World Cup with one sporting the dark blue jersey and the other wearing the light blue jersey. I don't think the ICC will have any objection either. India contributes to almost 80% of the revenue earned by the ICC and with 2 Indian teams the ICC can make more money out of it. So it's a win-win for everyone. 😅 This is the only solution. Food for thought 🤔 I don't know whether you read the comments Jarrod but if you do, would love to know your opinion. 🙏🏼

U could make that argument with most of the big international teams tho. Western Australia aline could probably get one or two wins as a team in a World Cup. It shouldn’t happen in a World Cup tho as a World Cup celebrates the world of cricket, and having multiple teams from the same country is therefore counterintuitive
@aunali6806
@aunali6806 Жыл бұрын
your argument is very stupid, if anything india has a massive advantage by having way larger of a population it gives india more players to choose from and therefore giving them more potential to have a better team than new zealand. If you think india deserves two teams in the world cup, why doesnt BCCI make two teams and then choose the best of the best from both teams and then make a single team or maybe thats exactly how selection works. Do you not think that that would be stronger than two seperate teams?
