Another clear and informative video Mark- Thanks. I agree, those mobile clutch and gearbox guys earn their crust. I remember fondly (as he got a mouth-full of gearbox oil) doing the engine and earbox change on his fiesta with minimal tooling/improvised hoist back in about 2005. Lets just say its character-building.

Thank you Patrick, they do seem pretty hardcore don't they. Cars seldom play fair so if you get a snapped bolt or rounded head on one it must really put the pressure on and I doubt you can charge more as it's probably a quoted fixed price. Crikey a mouth of gearbox oil cant be fun. I drained this one first if only to make it 2kg lighter lol

Great work! Did you weight that gearbox before installation? I also watch Kevin's videos 😊. Take into account he does it everyday so, he doesnt need a gym yo keep fit. Thanks for the video and all the best for Debbie!

I know exactly what you mean on putting the gearbox back in, it takes some doing on your own. The last one i did was a Peugeot 206 ,and I got a friend to give me a lift with it by wrapping a sling around the box, and he pulled it up whilst I pushed it up from under the car. There was a lot less swearing than normal. I like your small torque wrench, it looks a nice bit of kit. Keep up the good work.

Hi Neil and thank you. In hindsight I should have wrapped a sling around it and lifted with the jack while tightening a strap above. Peugeot 206 might have the same gearbox as the original MINI with the Midlands box. So would be the same weight. I dare not complain though as it was at least indoors in the dry and no wind haha. I list the tools under all my videos if you needed to see more details on the torque wrench. I bought it for cycling at the time as handlebars are easily overtightened and I feared crashing on my bike going down a steep hill lol

@@neilhampson2843 I think I read that the gearbox started as a 4 speed and Rover added the 5th gear as a modification, but being the gearbox was only made for small 1 litre French cars putting it into a 1.6 caused it to fail with too much power so they later changed that box to the Getrag which is in this MINI I am currently working on. The Midlands was in my silver MINI where I took the engine out. Both about the same size though.

Excellent video, next time, use a long plank of wood and put that on the jack and then the gearbox on top to lift the gearbox. When the wood lines up with the engine, the gearbox will slide in on the wood as there are no awkward bits blocking the gearbox from sliding. I have done this few times and works perfects and safe for your back

Think the R50 is more spacious as well compared to the later R56 I'm working on now which is packed with emission equipment. Hope all comes good for you.

... HE REMOVED ALL OF THE FRONT END AND WAS STANDING UP WHEN HE REPLACED THE GEAR BOX , REMOVE THE RADIATORS & PUT THAT STRAP AROUND THE GEAR BOX & ON UR SHOULDERS & MOUNT IT STANDING UP ...
