Pravin Amre experienced that rare high when he scored a fighting 103 in the Durban Test against South Africa in the 1992-93 series - an innings that was largely responsible for India forcing a draw in the match.

India played few and far between test matches during 90's. He performed average after this century. But he got a fair run in one dayers and he was very poor in those. In those days both teams were one and the same. So he was dropped.

Praveen Amre, the pitch digging batsman. He really used to dig/hit the bat hard on the ground. A decent guy from the 90s, well all were decent in those days/era.

Amre was a decent batsman and played few crucial knocks for India including this one. Somehow did not make a mark in international cricket. I think he could not keep pace with younger players who were coming up during that time like Tendulkar, Kambli etc who were more aggressive in their approach. And later players like Ganguly and Dravid came in further denting Amre's chances to get selected in the team. However, India lost this test series 0-1. This test match ended a draw. India also lost the ODI series on this tour comprehensively . Was overall a poor tour for India. They won 2 ODIs out of 7 (including last odi but by then the series was already lost)- first one was won by WV Raman' s century and second was by Amre' s knock of 84. Childhood memories !!

Amre was a fine batsman.... he was sidelined due to much fixers politics... underperformed players played 100s of matches making sporadic performances but amre who played atleat 5 match winning / saving innings was sidelined after 1or 2 bad performances same case with ashok malhotra..

Unfortunately he was judged on the basis of his ODI performances which was unfair. He was not a good ODI player but he was a proper Test batsman. He should have gotten more opportunities as a Test specialist like Pujara.

Yes.. the last ODI match of the 7 match series also amre debut match vs south africa in 1991 at Kolkata he scored 50+ alone with Tendulkar. In that match Donald toyed with Shastri Manjrekar Sidhu. That was the return match of South Africa in international cricket under the captaincy of Clive rice.

Pravin Amre played well Against England Tour of England to India, getting 2 Half Centuries. But After That During West Indies Tour of India,Pravin Amre was dropped and Sanjay Manjrekar was replaced. This was Pure Politics by Skipper Azharuddin and Manager Ajit Wadekar.

A great batsman in domestic cricket. Don't know why was he sidelined by Indian selectors & Azhar. Pravin Amre also scored an ODI hundred against South Africa in their return series in 1991-92.

Other than Azhar, its Mumbai Lobby, which decided the fortunes of Mumbai Cricketers... Many talents from Mumbai like Neelesh Kulkarni, Sairaj Bahutule, Wasim Jaffer, Abhay Kuruvilla... were not given many chances despite their brilliant performances in the middle. Though Sachin himself was the Captain during the tenures of some of these Talented Players. He did not let Wasim Jaffer, who played well, to continue as Opener, as he wanted to open the Innings always, initially with Ajay Jadeja/ Sidhu/ Manoj Prabhakar, later with Saurav Ganguly.

Agar us time talent dekha jata to 6-7 players Mumbai ke hi hote playing 11 me. Achcha h aaj aisa nhi hota. Pehle aisa hota to Indian team ek best team pehle se hi rehti

He was in mould of Rahul Dravid & was thousand times better than likes of Jacob Martin, Vijay Bharadwaj, Gagan Khoda, Sujit Somasunder & many others who went on to represent India during those years.

In recent interview he revealed that rumours were spread about him that he is having asthama and not fit to play cricket. However It was just viral cough and cold for 3-4 days, that too because of cold weather in New Zealand. Honestly he reported same and declared himself unfit just for that single test against New Zealand. It was Indian physio and few selectors that time who ended his career. He NEVER got chance to play test cricket after New Zealand tour. Not even a single test match. How could a person with Asthama scroe hundred on Debut against mighty South African attack in 90s that too on their soil.. What a shame to politics and lobbying
