Rocketing to the top of the world as a supermodel in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Paulina Porizkova was always prized for her beauty. However, years of being looked at-but not listened to-took their toll, whittling away at her self-worth. So when Paulina’s menopausal journey coincided with the dissolution of her marriage-and unexpected death of her husband-sorrow ripped her open. Through it all, she saw her past for what it was: a lifetime of being objectified. Now 56, Paulina has broken free, discovering that the loss of her child-bearing body has allowed her to find the most interesting version of herself: stronger, more beautiful, smarter, more patient, wiser, and funnier. “And this is where you don't want to see me anymore because I've aged out of being physically appealing to you. Well maybe if I shout loud enough, ‘Fuck you! That is not so!’ somebody will take notice.” Watch Paulina's video to see how the rebel yell of menopause has allowed her to truly find her voice.

I am a 55 year old married man. I have only ever known Ms. Porizkova's image as a model. I have never read nor have I seen an interview with her. I appreciate her sharing her journey with us. I am pulling for her to not only be heard, but to be loved in ways that she can feel, as a friend, as a lover if she chooses, as an "auntie" to younger models and artists looking to be heard. Additionally, she has aged so gracefully. Anyone who overlooks her natural beauty is blind of spirit. It certainly ain't her.

@@Umbrella1968 But who gives a fuck? I haven't even seen this lady nude. I couldn't care less. If it so happened to be in my face, I'm sure I would look and I'm sure I would admire. But I don't really need that in order to be interested in a human being's voice I'm European. I've been to plenty of sauna complexes where you can see all ages all sexes nude. It's no big deal. I'm more interested in how well all the organs and energy centers are working and also in that Wim Hoff stuff. You know, what can we do with these amazing bodies that goes beyond what we are already doing?
@thoughts3897
@thoughts3897 2 жыл бұрын
@@Umbrella1968 Yes, I know that. The whole premise of this program is that women "strip" to accept their true selves. If you follow that channel they interview MANY women from MANY walks of life. Some famous, some regular folks, all different body types. Sure many might disagree with the premise, but you can see if you watch different episodes that for many of these women --and for some viewers--it is the first time that they are truly accepting themselves, seeing themselves reflected in the media. My take-away: Accept yourself; don't buy into the messages of "beauty" as being one-note. Of course, you may have a different take-way, and certainly "aging gracefully" can mean many different things to many different people. And, yes, of course, you can accept yourself without posing in your bra and underwear --but big deal that she does (or that anyone does)? To each their own. Don't watch it. Simple as that.

His perception was that she left him, because she did leave before he got sick and had a boyfriend for a little while. Then she came back when he was sick. Very nice. One thing I've learned over the years is that some of the most beautiful women you'll ever see are also the most insecure about everything from their looks and intelligence to their ability to NOT be abandoned. Paulina at 58 is finally getting it that she has value, is beautiful inside and out and has worth. It just takes some longer than others. She's not wrong though from a societal standpoint. Many women at a certain age are wrongfully invisible and seen as having no value when in fact they are at their most valuable the older they get.

Paulina... I always wondered how someone like Rick Ocassic landed such a beauty and now i know. The fact that that ended the way it did was not your fault. You have no idea how much power you actually have. The more you use your voice the better it gets! The only one who can convince you that you are worthy is you. If you need some of the worlds feedback to confirm that you should start a blog or write a book. You are an icon to so many of us that grew up in the old world. Dont underestimate the power you have. You are still just as beautiuful. Most 20 somethings would die for a body like that or any age! (myself included!). If you think no one cares what you have to say you are just plain wrong. If anything i think people need someone that they already trust to be talking to them about life. You are that person. So what if your early childhood was without care. The world cares now. Let them.

I disagree. Humans are made so guys spend time making a career, developing ways to take care of a family and females mate with the guys that are already there, not with their peers. That already happens in highschool, girls themselves go for older guys or even adults. That means a few years of age gap or even decades of age gaps. Women are at their peak, beautiful and fertile, with a a future ahead of them, in their 20s while guys peak at around their 30s and 40s. By that point they'll have stable income and knowledge/skills to provide for their family. As well as emotional maturity and experience of how the world works which is more important for what they give in a relationship. It's not a broken system. It was necessary back in the day, when survival wasn't guaranteed. Now the remains of that are left but it still is beneficial. Don't be one of those people who think that it's disgusting that the ideal image of a woman is basically one in their late teens. What should it be? Women after they've hit menopause, not capable of reproduction?

@@StyleLikeU1 Now I am 69. I retired January 2020. As a middle school teacher at the time, I dodged the Covid teaching fiasco, but still managed to catch it March 6, 2020, before we knew much about it. As a teacher, I had kept a fashionable, shiny, deep brown bob through the last decade, but on retirement and lockdown I decided I wanted to let it grow out in length and in color. It has been almost two years and I feel so beautiful, powerful and FIERCE. I don’t think I could have lived up to my incredible evolving looks before I retired, because the world of public school teaching has become such a damning, damaging and dangerous place. I needed a youthful appearance for symbolic body armor against the daily assaults on my health and self esteem. I have been blessed with great, smooth skin, among other things. I don’t wear makeup. I wouldn’t say I am still beautiful, I have to say I am even more beautiful in my current incarnation. I have lost the sight in one eye, and it seems to have turned my spiritual perspective completely around. I developed several autoimmune and health problems, but I have never felt so invincible in spirit. This age is a gift. My hair is a symbol. It is long and wild and streaked with shining silver white and seems to have gone wild with a will of its own. I look like the strong and interesting person that I am becoming. Strangers are compelled to tell me I look fabulous and they love my hair. Who would have guessed 69 would look and feel like this. 👍

You're insulting those women who work hard to provide the bread for their family, while she complains about irrelevant problems such as ageing or the industry which made her rich. @Samia Mim so if I'm not a woman I'm not entitled to defend women who really work hard and don't complain about trivial issues? My mother is a woman, my sister is a woman, so my wife, and none of them have ageing problems. What you call ageing is an insecurity issue that every person will go through at some stage. Do you think men don't freak out when they're ageing? Or maybe you will tell me that just women are entitled to feel sensitive about something? Women use cosmetics because they feel better when they use make up, you're free to choose to use them or not, there's not anyone to blame for your choice. Her story is offensive towards women who work real jobs and take miserable wages. Her industry is famous for objectifying women, guess why, maybe because fashion is based entirely on look? Since when Walmart or a post office job have been objectifying women? I am really struggling with my self esteem right now as well. I’m 50 years old and have never had a single treatment or even a professional facial. I haven’t had a period in almost 4 months now so obviously I’m entering the menopause. I’ve had such terrible mood swings going from anxious to rage and feel so ugly. I’m having terrible hot flashes all day and all night with my face turning bright red. I look at my body which gave birth to 3 wonderful kids and it looks squishy around the middle and the years of sun damage have left me with creepiness above my knees and my hands which have provided care to my patients, milked our 50 cows in below 30 degree weather, and dug in the dirt of my many flower and vegetable gardens and they look even older than my face. I have arthritis and the knobby and crookedness are very obvious to see now. My biggest insecurities are my nose which I broke terribly as a child and have had surgery to help correct the obvious deformity only to have it slowly fall apart again so I will have one more surgery to fix it up as much as they can and that will be the only and last thing that I will have fixed by a surgeon. My neck makes me feel the oldest and most insecure about because it is sagging and has many weird lines and wrinkles. I don’t even want to be in my family pictures anymore because I’m just shocked at how rapidly my appearance has changed with this peri menopause hormone drop. It’s unreal what the lack of estrogen does to the face, mind, and body. Paulina is still a beautiful woman and I would love to look as great as she does, especially her figure which is in fantastic shape no matter what age she is. I’m grateful to hear that I’m not the only woman feeling so lost right now and really appreciate her honesty.

So true. I have been on my own for the past 10 years since divorcing at 49. I have had a lot of time to reflect on my life and have finally realised I do not need to define myself by being somebody's "other half". I am enough. I have also during lockdown decided to stop dyeing g my hair every 2-3 weeks and let my natural silver white hair come through and I love it. It is so healthy and beautiful and shines when the light catches it. I had a lightbulb moment and though "Who am I dyeing this for", deciding I was not going to spend the next 20 years of my life putting chemicals on my head to try and halt time. It has been so freeing and I actually feel empowered that I am now putting myself first for the first time in my life. We women put everyone else first, husband, kids, family etc. It is time we realised how beautiful we are and start to think about ourselves. I do not need a man to define me and if I am lucky enough to meet someone in the future then great, he will be a very special man, because I will not be getting involved with any old stranger just to have someone there. I am not afraid of being alone as I've been doing it for 10 years and have rediscovered myself and know my worth.

I can not explain how supportive & healing this interview has been for me. Thank you so much. So many of us feel broken for deep reasons, we have witnessed & being the catcher`s mit of hurt from a really young age in a very unsupportive society. I also believe that this is changing. I have recently been pondering on the fact that I modeled as my narcicist mother & abusive, toxic siblings did. I`m sure many model from choice & empowerment but that was not my experience as a teenager. Now at 43 I am really starting to embrace a normal, tranquil life. It`s actually triggering when so much of my life was a roller coaster of emotions, hype, drama, high highs & low lows. But I`m healing & accepting myself, rediscovering who I am. We are all worthy of love. Hope this is helpful.

This interview really did something to me - I am crying my eyes out. Now in my early forties, while I look a decade younger, I have gone through this invisibility as a child and a teen. Socially, deeply, misogyny has built a world where any love and appreciation for a fellow human who is female is disgustingly conditional. These hurts happen if you are outside the current beauty norms, or if you are considered a beauty, and they are deep cuts, deep identity wounds. It is such a HUGE challenge to learn to stop playing "that game" and start playing our own. IMO, Paulina is the most beautiful - inside and out - she has ever been, and I am not saying it to be nice.

So love for men ISN’T conditional as well? Are you joking?🤣 Men AND Women both have preferences and attributes they desire in the opposite sex. I’d go as far as to say it’s FAR easier for women to meet said preferences and standards than it is for men. Men universally desire women that are fit, feminine and youthful, that’s it. It’s not “misogyny”, it’s evolutionary predisposition.

For me as a man it was quite different than for her as a starting "super Model." People would indeed stare and not know how to respond to so much physical beauty. Overwhelm was a common occurance. Beautiful of course, but totally devoid of any sort of attitude or conceit. Very smart, kind of goofy too, which was both charming and disarming. I think she spent as much time chatting with me as she did because I didn’t immediately fawn all over her. I mentioned an article I had read of her describing that she loved to paint, so as an artist on my way to art school, I was really excited to ask her about her painting. We talked about art & school for about 15 minutes or so. She was utterly modest and it was just a really nice NYC moment. Just between you and I (and the rest of the world who will bother to read this comment), I became widowed at 43 and thought that I only had 5 good years left to find a mate but then something happened. It was life, me living for myself exclusively. Both my children were young adults at the time so I had no real concerns about their education, wellbeing and etc. Online, I found plenty of men easily but they all seemed to be looking for the same thing, someone to take care of THEIR needs. Be it cleaning and cooking, taking care of their physical needs instead of the hand cream and tissue they used before we met, nursing and sometimes, even financial support. There was more taking on their part than giving. I asked myself why was I putting myself out there for them because I certainly didn't need them (especially when menopause set in!) and the hurt they can cause with their insensitive comments and actions. At my age (62), they're more often a burden because their health is likely failing. However, now, when I want to do something - I don't have to ask anybody's opinion. If I want to have chicken for dinner, I don't have to ask if that's what the "ball and chain" wants. If I want to go on a real vacation, it costs my household half the price! I have a social life that I'm enjoying to the max without any impediments! So yeah, trust me, you'll be fine on your own! 😉

My mother was the 8th of 9 children of Swedish immigrants. She was strikingly beautiful as you Paulina and had a career in her 20s where she dated a senator and lived an exciting life. At 25 she met my dad and they had a wonderful life until they didn't. When my dad died at 69 my mother had become the result of an emotionality abusive marriage where she let herself go. Within a year after his death she started transitioning physically and emotionally back into that beautiful woman as it became apparent to everyone who whitnessed. She became the former beauty coming out of her dormant cocoon once again. Mom died four years ago at 99 years old but looked and acted 20 years younger. She use to refer to herself as a stubborn old Swede!

Fantastic interview. I totally feel what Paulina is saying. Our society today is upside down. So much emphasis on the outside and no value on what’s inside. I won’t have Botox, or fillers for all the reasons she mentioned. I like my expressive face, even if it means wrinkles and sagging. I’m me and I like me. I have a lot to offer, though many people aren’t interested in my opinions or ideas, they never were even when I was young and attractive. It’s their failing, not mine.

The pain she speaks of is the pain so many women experience. To not be truly seen or heard, it really happens. And it leaves scars on your psyche and undermines your sense of self. Yet she persists! The light shines through her eyes and smile. She has the strength to share her vulnerabilities and her journey toward self love with others. That wisdom, that strength and insight forged through difficult experiences, that is the essence of the unique beauty of the older woman, the crone. I hope she is able to harness its power and find her way forward, with joy.

That was dramatic. Of course she persists. She’s healthy and probably financially secure. She’s not in the street with an unstable future. She chose a life of being seen and not heard. @King Brilliant developing young girls are used for their looks and wanted for that so strongly their thoughts, intelligence and skills get ignored. I’ve been discriminated against because of my looks. One boss said sorry but he didn’t want me around because I was a distraction also decades ago men didn’t want to intellectually compete with an attractive women. Being older now there are those who discard you because of your older looks and believe you had some unfair advantage lol. We don’t need that mindset. Paulina finds her power in skills and wisdom.

What a lovely person. It's sad to hear that she went through so much pain unnecessarily. As human beings, we have to be taught about self-esteem, self-love, and self-respect. It sounds like she was disrespected her entire life, and then accepted other people's opinions about her as reality. And that's so sad.

Everything Ms. Porizkova says about being this age (for women who are aging naturally!) is complete true. If you're in your 50's/60's, aren't svelte thin, and don't use botox and/or plastic surgery to keep you looking young, then as women, we're invisible to pretty much everyone who isn't family or close friends. And during the whole menopause thing, I'd say that for my husband it actually started before menopause for me, it was way more about him realizing his own mortality and that he felt that he was getting old and craved/needed to make himself feel younger.

Paulina, You spoke the TRUTH for so many women around the world. You starting this conversation is is your most important devotion to your soul’s growth. Because if an ordinary woman like me was sharing the exact same things you did in this video, people would not have the same reaction because you are a super model having this experience. You sharing your experience is so much more profound than me sharing it. You are the right “instrument” to raise humanity’s consciousness, that this is not right. We CANNOT treat anyone any human in this regard. You are more POWERFUL than you can ever imagine. Hero moment.
