If your going to spend money on a f-type you may as well spend that extra money to get the V8. Nothing wrong with the 4 cylinder but the supercharged 6 or 8 is the better option

I think it's developed for China, where like many European countries you get taxed heavily for engines above 2.0L or 3.0L. I think it's the same reason 718 cayman is also 2.0L now. China is huge market waiting to be conquered.

@@Omgiamsotriggered it doesn't, even a Cayman 981 2.7 is quicker, + lighter and more dynamic. The new Supra 2.0 weight is close to the Jaguar but is 0.9sec quicker with less horse power. The market positionning with this 2.0 is weird, because the price is (was) too high for the performance. This car is only offerting decent performance for someone who wants the look of a F-Type but without the running costs of the V6 or V8 variants.

This attracts people like me into buying a 4 cylinder who just wants to cruise around the city in style but without the gas guzzling v6 & v8 version. In actuality 4 cylinder is easier to maintain compared to the bigger engines.

@@referencechannel996 A Lexus RCF with the V8 engine has 471 bhp, the F-Type R (V8) has 550 bhp. The F-Type R is a full second faster to 60 and as for sound, there isn't even a comparison. So, A Lexus V8 pales in comparison.

Beautiful looking but 4 cylinder, that's not a Jag, it's an emission exercise for tax reasons. 300 hp give or take out of 4cyl though, not bad at all

im pretty sure the gearbox is holding it back quite a bit. I mean 300hp should do better. my base boxster 718 does 4.4s 0-100, and a 12.4s 1/4mile.

nothing like seeing a gorgeous f type, a car with a beatufiul high end design, and then hearing the same soudn that comes from a ford fiesta. vomit. what is jaguar smoking? they totally missed the mark on this and at 61k starting? uhh no. i dont see how the target marked for this car would want a 4cyl engine when they can get the v6 for and extra 10k and spread over a lease or fiance payment, thats like what a few bucks more a month? yea the answer is easy here, v6 or v8. hey jaguar keep the 4 cylinder for the other manufactures.

Drake Robichaud not really, it's all relative. The biggest cost is due to lower sale volumes and transport costs. Even if taxes were higher, the cars here have extra features and other aspects like healthcare are better. You can't compare prices in 1 country to the other even before you consider foreign currency fluctuations. But you can see overpricing when these cars relative to other are more expensive than in other markets by bigger margins.

No it couldn't. A stage 1 map on the ST allows it to go from 0-60 in 6 secs. This base F-Type is still faster.

@@elwingy a *sportscar* made by an *exklusive car manufacturer* could potentially be expected to be a bit faster... given the price and the reason behind even buying a sportscar in the first place. Nevertheless I LOVE the design of the f-type, I myself would choose it over a tuned Ford. The jags handling alone would make all the difference.
