In this video, I take a walk onto Kinder Scout via the beautiful Blackden Brook. Certainly one of the more interesting and challenging routes onto Kinder which involves a little bit of scrambling

Nice to see a new video from you Anthony. I could really feel your enthusiasm on this walk especially as you were climbing up Blackden Brook. I must admit it looked superb from your footage, a really lovely route onto Kinder. That waterfall..... wow. Need to get to Kinder myself soon actually as it's been many years since I walked up there. Glad Simon enjoyed his walk up Hagg Farm afterwards! 😂

Hi Patrick. I certainly enjoyed this one. It was great to walk a new route. It’s not the easiest, but the effort was worth it to see those waterfalls. I have a big affection for Kinder. Just something really special about it. Yes, Simon was complaining a bit on the way up Hagg farm. I didn’t include all the footage of him moaning at his request 😆

Hi Ceri and Kat. Glad my video arrived today, although I think it’s a sad state of TV today if my video is the highlight 😂. Yes, this sure is a great route onto Kinder Scout and one that would be right up your street. It’s great fun and a Grade 1 scramble at the end. Nice to be back out with the camera too. I’ve missed taking it of late. Thanks as always for watching and have a great week 😊💚👍

A new video! This is exciting. Looks like a great hike with an awesome brook, did I spy a little plunge pool to swim in? 👀 or is it more one to shower in? 😂 That view on that section of Kinder Scout looks amazing, we still have to make our way up there!

That looks a great route on to Kinder Anthony. I have done most of the others but not that one. I might make use of it on my next wild-camp up there. Good to know there is parking at the bottom too. I had been thinking of camping on Fairbrook Naze but have heard a few reports lately of cars getting vandalised at Birchen Clough. Cheers, Chris

Thanks Chris. It’s been my favourite route up so far, although I’ve still to do Crowden Clough which I’ll get done this summer. You’d probably be better off parking at Edale and walking over to Fairbrook Naze. It’s a decent walk but at least you could sleep better knowing your car was safe 🙂

Great to see another video from you Anthony. I attempted blackden brook last year but gave up when I got to the large waterfall. The path is so narrow and goes round a corner. I’m not good with heights, was on my own and had no phone signal (and I was terrified!). But I loved what I saw of it and It looks incredible when viewed from the edge path (the northern side of kinder is also my favourite). Thanks for the video.
@AnthonyJohnson1
@AnthonyJohnson1 2 жыл бұрын
I know the bit you mean Kevin. My friend didn’t feel comfortable taking that narrow path either. He went up to the fence and walked along that instead. Once you’re beyond the main waterfall, there are no more precarious drops as it’s just a case of scrambling from then onwards. I’m not sure I’d take it on myself in bad weather to be honest. It’s definitely a summers day route for me.
@kevinstark4294
@kevinstark4294 2 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyJohnson1 I may give it another go. I don’t mind a scramble but sheer drops off a narrow ledge are another matter. Maybe I’ll try following the fence around. Thanks for the tip

Thanks Des. Definitely agree that it’s a good weather walk. There’s some very precarious parts to the path that would be a tad risky in wet or icy conditions. Well worth giving it a go though if you get chance

Did the walk a couple of days ago (1/9/22). No one else around. Obviously waterfalls were way down but parts of the path where little streams cross were muddy. Vegetation was quite high next to the path but still fairly easy to navigate. The scramble at the end is terrific fun and rocks are mainly leaning inwards. Might be a different story after heavy prolonged rainfall.

Great to hear you enjoyed the walk Cliff. It’s certainly an interesting and challenging route in places. I bet it’s a whole different challenge in the winter when more water is running down the Brook. Thanks for watching the video 👍

Nice video Anthony...you are right about the scramble towards the top of Blackden Brook and its actually quite thorny on the hands during the late summer months so you do have to be careful and maybe wear gloves. I wouldnt advice anyone taking children under 13 up that route because as you know there are some potentially high falls if you slip off that narrow path.
@AnthonyJohnson1
@AnthonyJohnson1 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you’re spot on Olan. I wouldn’t take anyone on that walk who was inexperienced as care is certainly needed in places. I know what you mean about the thorny parts. I had to pick a couple out of my hand when we’d finished 🙈. Thanks very much for watching 👍

@@AnthonyJohnson1 Your welcome Anthony. I am a very experienced rock climber and i was an Army climbing instructor for 15 years so definitely not faint hearted but after a heavy summer shower it really can be quite treacherous on those final 200 meters. That aside its is an absolute treasure of a place that gives the sensation of remoteness even though the Snake Pass is less than 45 minutes away or even a parked car :)

Really nice to see an alternative to Kinder, I wasn’t aware of this route , so it was really interesting . Loved that there were a few challenging sections to navigate your way through. The pools and waterfall looked great and I’m sure I define spotted a couple of potential wild camping spots. How far off the path was the large waterfall? Thanks for sharing.
@AnthonyJohnson1
@AnthonyJohnson1 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony. It’s definitely a lesser known area. The main waterfall is only a short diversion from the main path. Its quite wet on the approach to it, so probably best tackled this time of year. Parts of the path would be treacherous in bad winter conditions too! Definitely worth giving it a go if you’re looking at walking Kinder again

Biggest cause of accidents in the hills is inadequate footwear. Please get a pair of boots . When you make a video like rhis (which I really enjoysed) you encourage others to emulate you. Think on. Rescue teams are busy enough. Happy trails.

Thanks for watching Simon. I’ve been using trail running shoes for hiking for many years now and find that they are excellent in terms of comfort, grip and stability. Whilst I agree there is a place for sturdy boots (which I do wear in certain conditions), many people use trail running shoes for hiking these days.
