Grill Grates have made a believer out of me. My findings have been: 1. Dome temp in the Big Green Egg 350º = 500º on the Grill-Grates vertical ribs. 2. Basically zero flare ups, even with hamburgers etc. 3. There's a big difference between charcoaled tasting sear marks & very high temp clean sear marks from the Grates 4. Flip the Grates over to use the flat side like a griddle, works awesome. I've been doing reverse sear method on most things with great results...a much more even inner cooking with a very thin, tasty sear crust. For steaks I start the cook at 225º, indirect heat & regular grates. I pull steaks off at 110º internal temp, pull out the indirect plate setter, put the Grill Grates on and open top & bottom grill vents wide open to get big heat. Once the Grill Grates vertical ribs are 550º or 600º put the steaks back on for 1 min 15 sec to 1 min 30 sec, flip steaks over, same time, rotate 45º to get nice cross hatch grill marks, same time again, then flip back to side 1 for same amount of time. Pull them off & internal temp should be 130º-140º, let rest & temp should drop to 125º or so to serve. I'm very leery of gimmick items but I'm very convinced they are worth the small investment. They come with the nice tool for lifting/flipping your food as well.

I have owned grill grates for around 10 years ( 2 gas grills). I bought the 2nd grill making sure that my old grates fitted. They are awesome and last forever, I only cook on low because they make the grill very hot and very even.

Thanks for the nice review video. I realize I am late to the game here, but I'm considering buying some of these grates, and one concern I have is how often do you feel you need to clean them beyond just using the wire brush? How often do you remove them from the grill to give them a proper cleaning/washing? I feel like the benefit of the grease and juices vaporizing in the valleys would also lead to considerable grease and buildup that would need more than just a wire brush. Can you please comment on that at all?
@bradmetcalf7832
@bradmetcalf7832 2 жыл бұрын
Turn them over when your done grilling and let your coals do the cleaning for you. Use a standard brush after they cool and your ready to go again. I recommend oiling the grates before each use to prevent sticking and try to get them to 500-550 deg before placing the steak on.

PSA- never you a wire brush on any cooking surface. I had a bristle contaminate my food; thank goodness I was the one who ate it, a horrible experience, and would have been worse if it was a guest or my wife. Since then, wire brushes are for the garage. Happy BBQing!

@@Sola_Scriptura_1.618 yep. Thx. I never use the type of wire brush where the bristles can come out. For that reason. Glad you're ok to talk about it today

@Dan M after living the experience of ingesting a bristle, I have stopped using wire brushes, period. I prefer to use the burn-off and steam methods to clean my cooking surface. Not sure if Grill Grates recommends steam or not, but I am sure to avoid metal brushes. I hope you have a great day!

Nice review. I like that Costco offers prime beef, but not a fan of the butchers there removing the rib cap part of the ribeye. That's the most tender part of the ribeye.

Why not manufacture grill grates that already have the crisscross pattern on them? Then you don’t have to keep spinning them.

Have you tried not salting them too early? It might give the steaks an even better sear because the surface won’t be wet from the water drawn out by the salt.

No, no, no....you left off the first part of that saying .....” happy husband = happy wife, happy life” ...folks this demonizeation of the man and the man in the home has got to stop , I’m sorry but the man is the ruler of the house , not the woman. The man is the leader, the protector and the head of the household .
