In this week’s video, we take our semi-foggy morning photography adventure to Salem Lake in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This video is a lesson in persevering in landscape photography. While I had high hopes for some heavy fog, I made do with what I was given, finding some pretty landscape and nature photos along the lake edge with my Nikon Z6. I kept my gear simple with just one lens and one polarizing filter.
The Camera and Video Gear used in this week’s video include the following:
Nikon Z6 Mirrorless Camera w/ 24-70mm Lens: amzn.to/3oNoXOs
Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L: amzn.to/3K4ldWf
Hoya 72mm Circular Polarizing Filter: amzn.to/3vA0fFW
GoPro Hero9 Black: amzn.to/3iAsKOj
Google Pixel 7a: amzn.to/3Z9MX24
Umbrella Hats: amzn.to/3IqDfAj

Nice adventure. I see it’s somewhat warm. The wisp of fog adds intrigue.

Thank you and yeah....it was like 62°F. A very unseasonably warm December morning. If I recall...the high on that Sunday was almost 70! 🤷🏼‍♀️ At least I wasn't cold! I always love how fog adds intrigue into a scene. It is probably one of my favorite conditions to photograph in. 📸

@@AcaciaFikeNelson I live in northern Ohio and we get fog maybe 2-3 times a year. Most of the time it dissipates relatively fast. I am jealous. Recently drove through Tennessee and 4 areas (along I-75) had some beautiful fog. Couldn’t stop though as on tight schedule to get home.

@@mikebartow9415 We definitely get quite a few foggy days in North Carolina. Some days, it can linger around all day! I bet the Blue Ridge Mountains play a large part in that. Also...I hate when I see an amazing photo but I am unable to take it... whether there is no safe way to get it or time. I like to think it lives on in my memory! 😀📸

Really enjoyed your video. My favorite kind of photography weather! Was most impressed with your b&w images. IMHO, dull, flat, overcast lighting like this lends itself perfectly to b&w. In fact, I would have committed the entire day to b&w. More fog would certainly have been welcomed, but, as you said, you are at the mercy of Mother Nature, so you work with what you have! Which you did most admirably! I think you "persevered" beautifully. And again, IMHO, your choice of the 24-70 lens is the absolute best choice when going out the door with only one lens for general shooting.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your comments. I was surprised that I didn't edit more photos as black and whites, but as soon as I saw the brownish/red of leaves and the green pine trees pop on the computer, I felt compelled to edit as color. But yes foggy weather is perfect for b&w photos. My 24-70 is definitely my workhorse lens. I use it probably 85% of the time when I am out hiking around. Thanks again for watching and have a fantastic day!! 📸😀

Thank you for taking us on your adventures. I like to pick a picture that is my favorite. I love the -Texture- photo. Another picture that tugged at my heart was -Off In The Distance- I think it's because it reminds me of a picture your Grandpa Bill took over 60 years ago, to see you carry on the love of photography is very special. You truly have a great eye.

Hi, I enjoyed this video!!! Nicely done! I have found that the first 10 or 15 minutes is the hardest part!!! But after that, I begin to see compositions quit easily! As I am looking for landscape shots I am also looking around for micro shots on trees, and on the ground around me!!! I see you did that as well!!! Thank you for sharing the video!!! I love your enthusiasm!!!👍👍👍

Thank you for commenting and sharing. Yeah, when it's one of those days where the compositions aren't jumping out at you, it can be a struggle and completely agree the first 10-15 minutes can be the toughest. Thanks again for watching and have a fantastic day! 😀📸

Learned this from another you tuber who I believe lives in the Carolinas, dew point same as the temp, = fog. Seems to be true up here on the Jersey coast. Like the Pine Needles phot best. Happy Holidays to you & yours too! Who won?
@AcaciaFikeNelson
@AcaciaFikeNelson 6 ай бұрын
Yes! If the dew point and temperature are equal or within a degree or two you get fog. What I failed to remember is that because it was cloudy the day before, the fog would be higher up in the atmosphere instead. It's the clear nights that can lead to dense fog closer to the ground. Oh and the Carolina Thunderbirds won. My friend had, I believe, an assist and the game winning goal. Always a fun time! Happy holidays and have a fantastic day! 📸😀
