I know this has already been uploaded to youtube, but this is the complete version not separated into smaller bits.

I believe Rik Mayall memorised the whole book to make it more natural and fluid. It worked. This was the best in the series.

He clearly practiced the reading a lot. There's only one line he fluffs in the whole set. But it doesn't mean he was reciting from memory!

I watched this when it was actually on and it was the best think I had ever seen! someone enthusiastic and doing all the voice and actions, insted of just sitting there reading a boring book. He was awsum!

I used to watch this with my grandma when I was a kid....I miss her so much and think about her every day

I'm so pleased that this made it's way onto KZfaq, I recall watching this back in the 80s after coming back from primary school, Rik Mayall was great to watch as the Narrator. Really loved his eccentric loud voice as it fit the character's voices so well. Hard to believe it's been nearly 4 years since we lost him, the World's become a far lesser place without him. Gone But most certainly Never Forgotten (1958 - 2014).

This remains one of the best things ever to be shown on TV. The other was the university challenge episode of the young ones. Rick Mayall was a legend

Miss Well, I miss those days of not having a care in the world and sitting in front of a TV having my mind opened to new stories and ideas. Rik was HUGELY under rated. He as a performer could do anything. Who better to read that story than the biggest kid of them all?

1986!!! I still have the VHS cassette that I taped it on when I was 10!! Rik was just amazing!!! He was one of my biggest heroes and will always be!!!
