Phil doesn’t even need to try to be cool. His stage presence just reaches out and grabs your attention and doesn’t let go until the last note of his encore.

He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums). It was performed in front of 20,000 + people at the "Palais Omnisport de Paris" and truly was, if not the greatest, close to the greatest live performance ever. It was from his "Finally... The First Farewell" Tour and this particular concert in Bercy started with an amazing "Drums, Drums & More Drums" track performed by Phil and his other drummer, the previously mentioned Mr. Thompson. Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is in his 70's now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).

It might look like that many but Accor Arena (as it is now called) has a 20,300 person seating capacity and to my knowledge, has never had more. This particular show, performed in the Bercy neighborhood of Paris, had a little over 20,000 people attending it (exact numbers are unknown). I'm sure in the entire tour that this was from, he could have performed in front of that many fans several times but not in this one. This particular performance was filmed and later released on DVD (I have it) so you many check the DVD liner notes to verify what I'm saying.

Phil's timing in this performance is absolute perfection - every step, every pause! I've watched this at least 50 times & never get tired of it! My family never missed Miami Vice, including my 2 sons! My older son had to have Don Johnson clothes & looked FANTASTIC in them! At that time, he looked like a young Tom Cruise! Now, his head looks more like Phil's!😊

The set list from the concert is online. It was in the second half of the concert, so he probably went backstage, got some water, changed his shirt, and got the headset while the rest of the band set the mood.

Brilliant! I can’t believe so many didn’t know that he is a drummer - he was the drummer in Genisis before taking over from Peter Gabriel as the lead singer when he left the band. Yeeesh!

The beginning is like jungle noises in the night, building suspense; then Phil sings, while prowling around the stage like a panther. Such tension and then the drumming release. Such a production! Beautiful.

Hi both, it’s a long time since I’ve seen Phil, and I’ve never seen this live recording. I remember him as the drummer performing with Genesis, and him performing in Live Aid in the UK and the US to BP2. It’s a long intro, but so worth waiting for. It sounds as good as, if not better than the studio recording. A brilliant upload and reaction ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Yaaassss! Phil Collins is a legend, and this performance was even better than the original, and the original was always a banger anyway! The Face Value album doesn't have a single bad song on there, it's one of my all time favourites. I used to have it on cassette (showing my age there) and I practically wore it out on my Walkman. Epic all around. Like you said, you know what's coming, but it still knocks your socks off. My older boy was obsessed with the advert when it came out. Also, by brilliant coincidence, you released a reaction to one of my favourite songs on my birthday, so thanks for that! 😁

@@BritPopsReact not gonna lie, this has been the worst birthday I've ever had. Little dude was poorly overnight and has been in pain all day. Currently in children's assessment unit awaiting blood tests as it's suspected appendicitis. So crappy day all around really. I'll definitely need chocolate whenever I get home.

Amazingly (can't really believe it) it's almost two years since I was at the O2 to see the penultimate concert of the final Genesis tour. As you said, Phil can't drum any more and his son was there filling in - quite well, I'd say. And while Phil wasn't 100%, I think he was about 80% and that was enough for me. Grown men were crying their eyes out. And halfway through one of the intricate Genesis drum solos, they paused, and the arena fell silent, as we remembered the fate of all those KZfaq reactors who dared pause during this solo.

I’m so glad that you mentioned that this song was in Miami Vice. I only ever got to watch that show one or two times because we only had one tv and my mom watched her evening soaps when it broadcast. I was sure that I hated it on the show and also in a Budweiser commercials.

Two things I think worth noting that a lot of the reactions don't: First, the staging, right down to the his drums emerging to the stage just as he reaches them. Second, his performance. There are other videos of him doing the same song, same arrangement down to getting to the drums just in time for the bridge, but (perhaps inspired by the audience) in this one he really lets loose. Great job.

Beautifully reaction guys. Always love your commentary and as a 67 year old rocker, always look forward to watching you both. BP2, bringing back the memories centered around this masterpiece. Miami Vice and don't forget the sequence with Mike Tyson in the movie, The Hangover. Just to add, I haven't looked to see if you've reacted to Phil's band mate, Peter Gabriel and his beautiful love performance of In Your Eyes with the stunning Paula Cole. There is a singer I wish you would try to listen to he is from Northern Ireland he started when he was 12 and 1/2 years old he is now 19 his name is Owen Mac the first time I've ever heard him he sang a song called play me the waltz of an Angel I cried please watch this videos he is awesome he sings gospel and Country you have a blessed day

The knowledge of “what” this song is about will have you listen with new ears. This song is to the man that his wife was cheating with. A very nasty-long divorce followed. Phil called this his angry album. The follow-up song to his ex-wife is a must hear: I Don’t Care Anymore.

You need to check your dates. This concert was in 2004, not 2009. It was in Paris, France in front of a crown of 80,000+. Don't believe he did any in 2009 since he was recovering from surgery.

The pauzes don't really need to be that long tbh. I checked all reaction videos of This epic performance. Best comments usually: -Playing drum without losing voice -The incredible buildup -The lyrics about 'if you were drowning, I wouldn't reach my hand to you' usually shocks the most sharp yt'ers, like did he really just say that? -the song was about his divorce. Stay on topic and lyrics more fellas.
