Step into the captivating world of visual storytelling with the opening of the "PATHWAYS" photo exhibition by Gary Webb and "polaroid stories" by V. Basilo at the gallery in the Henry Resort, nestled in the heart of Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Held on Thursday, 21 March 2024, this event brought together art enthusiasts, friends, and familiar faces from the city to celebrate the remarkable works of these two talented photographers.
The exhibition is still open to the public from 1 pm to 5 pm daily until May 4, 2024.
Gary Webb, debuting his first photo exhibition, showcased a stunning collection of color prints from his recent journey to northern India alongside poignant black and white prints capturing the essence of daily life in Negros Oriental. Utilizing primarily a Leica M10-P with a 35 mm lens, Webb also emphasized the accessibility of smartphone cameras in igniting a passion for photography. Renowned for his expertise in printing large-format photos on premium paper up to DIN A 3 size, Webb is dedicated to offering personalized advice to his clientele.
Meanwhile, V. Basilo presented two compelling series: "polaroid stories" and "Anino at Liwanag." Delving into carefully curated snapshots from the 1980s and 1990s, Basilo aimed to transport viewers into the timeless allure of film photography and narrative imagery.
The exhibition, made possible with support from Windy and Sandra of the Foundation University Department of Fine Arts, underscored the commitment to fostering artistic talent in Dumaguete. The Department offers a diverse range of courses, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, new media, and art history and theory, boasting a roster of esteemed artists such as Hersley Casero, Jude Millares, Rey Labarenta, Dyna Quilnet, and Florenz Dionisio.
For aspiring artists, the Fine Arts studios on the ground floor of the administration building on Dr Micianao Road in Dumaguete provide a nurturing environment for creative exploration.
Adding a culinary delight to the affair was Jennelyn Webb, who delighted attendees with exquisite canapés crafted in her kitchen, ensuring a truly unforgettable experience for all who attended.
