Orange County Physical Therapist and Certified Functional Manual Therapist, Dr. Lin talks about how the hip, the legs, and the arms correlate to proper walking, and how it can help you walk more efficiently. Proper walking helps prevent pain and other chronic injuries.
It is recommended that we should walk about 10,000 steps (roughly 3-4 miles) a day to reap the benefits of an active life. With so many steps, it becomes counterproductive to continue with an inefficient walking pattern, which could lead to potential problems down the road. Studies have shown that low back pain, headaches, TMJ, and/or neck problems may possibly stem from poor walking mechanics. Ultimately, becoming aware of the correct walking pattern will lead you closer to a pain-free life!
Rehab and Revive Physical Therapy - We CAN and we WILL get better together!
Not all exercises, suggestions, and recommendations presented here are suitable for everyone and are in no way substitute for medical counseling.

Hello awkward walkers! You are not alone. We are in this together! Edit, after 3 years: My legs are bent as fuck but it does give me an advantage as a footballer for some reason. I was called "gay" when I was younger because of my awkward walk but it has definitely gotten better with practice. Just chew a gum or listen to music or just wear a sunglass to distract yourself when you are walking alone as it gets worse when you are conscious about your walk. Distract yourself from thinking about it by any way possible. If none of these exercises or distractions work , just walk super fast. It is my recent discovery and it works for me. Thanks for the 3.8k likes. It made me happy. Edit after 6 years: Still walking awkward but walking fast still helps a lot

With 2019 coming to a close, I'd like to thank all of you who've watched and supported the video and channel. Whether you feel like you're an awkward walker or you feel self-conscious about your walking, I hope this video continues to help you walk a bit better. Though this video is old and the production low, this information can help those who walk a lot to protect themselves from poor body mechanics and injury. Keep up the inspiring (and sometimes not so inspiring) comments!

Your not the only one i have autism aswell, i used to be in a autistic class but they moved me to a normal class and that's when it began i start walking without moving my arms and then people made fun of me about it so i loss self confidence and start moving my arms and my walking didn't look right again so everyday my classmates start watching me when i walk and start laughing at me, which brings me to this video

Alympcie Carobert I feel so bad for you, a similar thing has happened to me. I don’t have autism tho, but when I was younger I had low self esteem. That caused me to look at the floor when I walked. Many of my friends noticed that and I should’ve listened to them. They were right, and now I am slowly learning how to walk properly.

At 38 I found out I have Avascular Necrosis and my left hip died and wore out and I needed a hip replacement. Ever since the surgery I know I'm not walking right and walking is very painful. I'm a bodybuilder so I carry a lot of weight from muscle on my frame and that makes things even harder. Knowing how to walk properly is something we all take for granted. I'm still trying to relearn how to walk properly. Thanks for your vid.

My trainer sent this to me. I am 6 months post ACL and Meniscus reconstruction. I am 56 and a dog walker, and very active overall. What hurts is walking dogs. Your video is showing me that by holding leashes, I am unable to swing arms and I can tell that the kind of stabilizing my knee has to do when a dog pulls is what is hurting. However if I hike I have no pain for 45 minutes to an hour. So I am going to concentrate on your technique, and try waling the dogs with a hand free leash. ( I also bike for hours without any pain..)
