A super quick update just to kick things off for second year. So far I'm loving it a lot and I hope it stays this way.
I'm covering first year labs and computing modules, and three core second year modules that cover vector calculus, EM, thermal and stat physics and more quantum.

Hi Hannah! I found your videos this summer after I got into my design program and have enjoyed catching up on your journey. I plan on starting to do videos of my journey too as I go along because I really like the way you've been able to reflect back. Glad you're settled in and feeling great about your program. Love from Toronto xo

Congratulations on getting into your programme! Making vlogs has been an interesting experience, and I'm glad I did it (although I don't always enjoy it!). It's definitely been positive overall though. Let me know if you start making videos :)

Could u do another day/week in a life of a physics student as the previous one was enjoyable and informative. Good luck with the degree!

Long post sorry: Hello I'm 21 years old doing an english teaching major (I got scared of the sciences even though I was way better at natural sciences and math than social sciences.... lol) and I'm a second year student. I'm in Turkey which is an extra obstacle for me but I'm thinking of studying Physics or Computer Science abroad as my second major, but since our economy is in pretty bad shape (and looks like it'll be getting worse) I'm more worried about the finances than if I could do Physics because I know I can. (I got the text books and I'm studying them on my own and asking the Physics professors at my school questions so I can get a recommendation letter and it's being going well so far). Do you know of any scholarship, funding or loan options for second degrees? (Or do you know of any ways I could sort of jump to Physics grad if I finish all the course load on my own, get recommendation letters and take an exam? D:) I'm thinking Canada because my boyfriend is there and I know you're British but you seem to have a network of mature students so I thought I'd ask even if it's a long shot. I have pretty much no worries academy or English-wise, I'm just really worried about money :/ Thank you so much for these videos though, they really helped with my confidence and making the decision to pursue another degree! (The reason I'm not changing is because of the system and the circumstances in Turkey, a physics degree is pretty much useless here if I can't go abroad) but it is my passion and I'm tired of giving up on it.

Hi Duygu, Thanks for your comment. I totally sympathise with your position, it's incredibly frustrating. I looked far and wide for scholarships etc. and couldn't find anything. It was only because the UK loans system changed that I was able to study here. I looked at Leipzig in Germany, Groningen in Netherlands and Lund in Sweden as they all teach undergraduate degrees in English and are either free or the fees are very low. They also have study abroad opportunities. With regards to going directly to a graduate programme, I think this would be quite difficult. I don't think many places would take you on if you don't have a formal physics undergraduate degree, but you could ask? I also considered this option at one point, but knew I'd need a lot of support as learning physics is more than just reading a textbook. But if it seems to work for you, it's always worth a try. It's just a bit risky. I'm really pleased you've found the videos helpful. Don't give up!

Glad to see your degree is going well. I hasten to ask, but do you have any vague ideas of what you think you'll do after the degree?

I have my entire life planned out for the next 10 years! Kidding. I'd love to do a PhD and then go into academia. Not sure what area, as I'm finding it all quite fascinating, but perhaps something that involves fluid dynamics and geometry but that's very vague. And to do lots of outreach stuff alongside would be cool. How about you? How's the PhD going?

I suppose you've got a while to go before you need to seriously decide what you'd like to do. As long as you're not tempted to go back to your previous occupation =) My PhD is going well thanks, half way through (goes quickly). First first-author paper (related to PhD) is out for review currently with Angewandte Chemie so fingers crossed!

That's great to hear! Yeah the time really flies by. I've got another three years of undergrad but I know that will go so quickly :D Are you planning on making anymore videos?

You'll blink and before you know it, you'll be a physics graduate! I would like to make some videos but it feels very narcissistic to make videos talking to a camera, we'll see. Glad to see you're still making them though =)

I know what you mean. I feel stupid making them, but people seem to like them/find them useful so I guess that's the point :)
