Great to hear from you Hanna! I'm glad all is going well. I like how you develop your network and try to get involved within the department. I still have to learn that skill... For me, the second year is soon to be over as well (in April) and I have the same experience that it is going much better and feels much better than the first year did, although it has its challenges too. I'm enjoying maths likewise so far. Good luck for the remainder of the semester and looking forward to another update!

Hey Julia! Glad to hear things are going better for you too! I think in terms of developing my network, it helps that I live really close by and just spend the whole day in the department 9-5 as much as that's possible (it also helps to keep me sane!). Good luck with the rest of your year too :)

Hi Hannah. Just a quick message to say I love your channel and your videos i think they are great for potential mature students looking to head to Uni. After watching all your videos i have decided its time for me to head to Uni myself in my late twenties :) so thank you for the content you have put out there and keep up the good work :).

@@HannahColemanV Im going on to study electrical and electronic engineering. If you are ever stuck for a new video idea would it be possible for you to explain further if there are any differences with being a mature student? and also, would you advise moving into student halls or not, i have heard mature students can live together?

@@johnschofield2093 Hi John, that's a great idea. I'll make sure to answer that question from my perspective in my next video :) Good luck with the degree!

Hi Hannah, just stumbled upon your channel and I've binge watched your videos! It's great to hear that things are going well! I wish I had your ability to just sit down and make yourself learn maths - maybe I can do that one day, but for now I'm sticking to humanities (hopefully I'll be starting my first degree this year at the tender age of 28). Bit nervous about being older, although the age difference is not huge... I do feel like there's quite a big cultural divide between me and teenagers these days. Any advice?

Hi Sam, sorry for not replying sooner. I've been hidden under a pile of revision before exams start next week :) Great to hear you're going back to uni! You are right, there is a difference. At least for me, certainly in the way I approach my studies and what I want to get out of it all. My advice would be to try to figure out what you want from your degree, and how you're going to be in the best position to do that. For me, it was finding a group of people I could work with who felt more like colleagues, people I could grab a beer with, and people who would be able to help me out when I was a bit lost/stuck. Don't be afraid to ask for what you think you need. And enjoy it! That's the hard part sometimes :)

I'm sure you won't remember me but at an open day I met you and you took me on a tour. You also helped me find Professor Moriarty right at the end of the day. Anyway I have an interview on the 31st at the physics department. Do you have any advice/ what happened on the day you went/ what sort of outfit would you recommend. Thank you so much Freya

Hi Freya! I think I remember you. Did I talk to you and your dad? When's your interview exactly, is it a Wednesday? I'll probably be helping out that day so make sure you say hi if you see me :) I actually didn't have an interview as I can through the foundation year. However, the interview days are very informal, so wear what you're comfortable in and you wouldn't need to do preparation. The interviews are there so the school can get to know you a little better and see what motivates you, so just be yourself and it will shine through!

Hi hannah. Been watching your videos as I'm looking at going back to university myself as a mature student. Never completed university first time around due to depression. Can I just ask, how have you funded the course? Great video once again 😊
@HannahColemanV
@HannahColemanV 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Gareth, thanks for your comment and I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos 😊As I completed my previous degree, it was difficult to find funding for a second degree, but a few years ago the government changed their policy. If you're looking to study a second undergraduate degree in any STEM subject, and you're willing to do it part-time, you can get a tuition fee loan, and even a maintenance loan now (I was too late for that part so I pay my rent by picking up a few part-time hours during term-time and working over the summer full-time). I did my foundation year full time and paid the £9000 upfront through a mixture of savings and credit card (which I've only just paid off), but I didn't want to do the foundation year over two years. This is the info from my uni regarding funding: www.nottingham.ac.uk/studentservices/documents/elq.pdf I'm not sure either if it's just for Student Finance England, or whether it covers other UK countries too. Also, keep in mind that if you didn't complete your previous degree, you may be able to get funding for full-time studies (but it depends when you dropped out). Have a chat with Student Finance and if you're looking at studying at a particular university, their advice/finance team might be able to give you more info too.
