Pickleball Pick-Apart

One of my viewers asked me to pick apart a game they played in. I was happy to do it. So, here it is. Overall, pretty good play, but, things that can be improved upon and something one player is doing illegally. Check it out.

You're welcome. I plan to get to it. Most of the people I play with do not want to be on youtube. But, I'll find some who do. I'm just trying to get players that are on the same level.

@@pickleballpick-apart9787 that I understand not wanting to be on KZfaq getting picked apart lol. Yes if you can find others that want to that would be great .I enjoy the strategies of the game and fine that if I pay more attention on how to correctly play the game the physical part will follow. I started putting strategy first in my last 4 sessions this week with positive results .thanks again

Great video as always! Can you pick apart a match that Chris Olson from the Pickleball Studio played in? I think that would be really fun! He recently posted a tournament he was in on his KZfaq channel.

At 10:29 you talked about Laura not getting up to the NVZ in time. i think the problem was even more fundamental than that. Her serve was short (which happens sometimes). She should have recognized that and split stepped as soon as Sandro got ready to hit the ball. Instead, she kept charging to the net and got caught trying to hit while on the move.

Very good advice about the split-step. I will try to incorporate it into future videos. Thanks for watching.

Honestly, I didn't get the impression that they were new players. Too many solid shots. I would guess they have been playing for awhile but probably together and have just kept playing the same way because they don't know any better. At least some of them anyway. Third shot drops aren't really intuitive. If you don't have instruction it is easy to think the only options you have are banging or lob shots. Alejendro looks like he might be fairly new because of the illegal serve and because he doesn't make as much effort to get to the net. Anyway, when you said they were new I was expecting a lot worse play.

I understand. Again, I think the giveaway is that no one pointed out he was serving illegally. Seasoned players would have known that. The younger of the players has some experience. Thanks for watching.

Laura's paddle position is not as good as you think it is, because it is way too close to her body.
@kenlocke9806
@kenlocke9806 9 ай бұрын
Yes, indeed, Laura’s elbows are tucked on her sides, rather than out front. Players have their elbows tucked into their sides are usually slower at the NVZ, and cannot reach into the NVZ to volley a ball.

What the best camera position for you to pick apart a game? We put our camera high and directly being the center at one end. We’d love for you to pick us apart. We can get you the best angle at our next session. We have a range of casual players - all trying to get better. Some of us have some mobility issues that keep us away from the NVZ even though we know we need to be there. Please pick us apart. I can recommend a particular game if you need.

Thanks for asking. I checked out your channel and the way they are shot will work fine. I'm happy to pick apart one. Let me know what numbered game you want me to do. It's best if you pick one that is at least over 8 minutes long. I'll post it next week. At what level of play are they?

@@pickleballpick-apart9787 none of us have ratings, but Keith and I (Kevin) are the ones that spend the most time drilling and working on technique and strategy. Some of us don’t position well because of mobility issues. Keith and I are starting an intermediate league in October, and expect to get killed. It’s no fun to win easily. I improve by being outmatched. We’re playing again tonight. Let me figure out a game for you to look at, and I’ll let you know.

@@pickleballpick-apart9787 9/21/23 Game 4 has some good and CERTAINLY some bad from me. Kevin (me) and David are in the far court. David is in his 70s!! Keith (the lefty) and Russ are in the near court. Russ has some mobility issues, so stays back a lot because of that. I’ll respond with a different suggestion if there’s a better option from tonight’s sessions (or Sunday morning’s).

If new players can learn to stop hitting balls that are flying out, they will win a lot more points and instantly move up half of a point on their play level ranking.

Choosing a twohanded backhand is not what you want to do, if your feet is out of position. Remember in Criss's video, that he was still standing to tall while hitting his shot even after all that practice. This may be the better backhand video for this level. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z595asxqmKfZeGw.html

Cool. I'll take a look. I hit 500 backhands over 2 days. I did use two hands. I really think the key is making sure I get low as I can. I videoed myself and was surprised to see I was not getting as low as I thought.

I enjoy your videos, but you made a 'blanket' statement that I think is too general. That has to do with the hand speed of older players. Of course the definition of 'older' can vary, but I seem to do just fine against 'younger' players (20-50+) and I am 77. One other thing is that I think that many of the shots that you say would definitely be out might be very close. And if you feel that they will be in, it is safer to hit it rather than let it fall in. I have the opportunity to play with a lot of "bangers", but some if them have the ability to hit the ball very hard but have top spin on it and they stay in, or the angle of the shot is such that it stays in. Just some thoughts.
@pickleballpick-apart9787
@pickleballpick-apart9787 8 ай бұрын
Glad to know that you are playing well at your age. Thanks for watching. Some players are effective at putting topspin on the ball, others are not. When playing bangers, I pivot and let the ball go if the player takes a full swing and he's standing somewhere besides the service line. If I let 10 balls go and six of them go out, it's to my advantage.

Thank you for the review! Honestly I am not too familiar with drop serves, but I have given Sandro the heads up on the illegal serve. Appreciate the feedback. If you want another one, Pat (in this video) and I (Nick, not in this video) played in a 4.5+ tournament: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mMiDpqx60a3Ih2Q.htmlsi=Ej3v5AaLpLHSpUck
